Eagles can't win away let alone top of the ladder giants. No chance of them winning

You're probably right but the club needs to to take it as a given that the Eagles will prevail in that match against the Giants.

Where as us supporters can look ahead all we like, the club needs to just make sure we get any sort of win next week ... and then attack the Brisbane game thereafter.

We have to get to 13 wins though ... no good complaining about missing out on percentage with only 12 wins.  We get to that number (13) and we should see some September action.  In at least the last 20 seasons, not 1 team has missed out on the finals after winning 13 or more games.

I just did a ladder predictor that had us finishing top 2 a game behind GWS so...no need to worry I guess.

Relax. We've got this.

Really??????

It's funny looking at Port Adelaide, they may be pretenders against teams who are decent but they have got the job done just about every time against the teams they should beat.

We need to get there, I'm sick of us losing games we should win. It's the reason we've got ourselves in such a stupidly precarious position.

That does tell us a lot.

We regularly lose to much poorer teams that we should beat, NB Norf, and until we learn to predictably win "the certainties" we will struggle.

I feel that last week once again the team lost the trust of the supporter base, loyal and long suffering that we are.

They must regain that trust - can they, will they start doing that next weekend?

That's it, next week is the week. We win I feel confident of finals, lose and I reckon it's close to over.

What's sad is it's come to this we had our destiny in our own hands. There was no excuse losing to Norf and a team full of desperation hoping to make its way into finals for the first time in 10 years doesn't allow an 8 goal run against a depleted giants.

Based on form and the downward trajectory were on I don't give us much of a chance against saints.

When we don't have anything left to play for w will show up against Lions and Pies.

Can't have pesky stuff like playing in finals interfering with end of season holidays.

Been a season of upsets, we need to hope we can upset the Saints next week!

3 wins at the G would be enough for a spot in the 8!

Looking at the ladder predictor, three wins should get us up into seventh.  I think we've blown any chance of finishing higher than that.  Two wins is probably still enough to get through, but then it becomes a matter of percentage rather than points, so that's a bit dicey.

The bad news is that as far as I can see we'll wind up facing either Sydney or Geelong at their home grounds, so I can't see us going past the first week.

Geelong at Simonds? I made the joke (1v4 variant) a few weeks ago after our Port win in regards to the AFL [censored] us over often, but this would be a bridge too far.

Could be Port over in Adelaide.  That would probably be a better outcome for us to be honest.  It depends on whether Richmond or Geelong win next week according to my results.

Geelong? Do you see them losing the next 3 games?

Its much easier to say we'll get beaten in our last 3 games because that is simply the more likely thing too happen, sorry my confidence is totally shot, I got nothing.

They have Richmond, Collingwood and the Giants.  That's two sides ahead of them on the ladder and they're playing without Selwood.  Assuming losses to Richmond and GWS, they finish 5th.  If they win one of those two then they jump ahead of Port due to the draw.

Realistically it's probably more likely we won't make it than will. In 2015 and 2016 we lost games we should have won, and *could have* slipped into finals, but we weren't a finals team. If we miss this year, we are going to reflect on that North game as your standard "Here we go again!" moment. Wins in Perth and Adelaide mean nothing if you can't win when it matters, against teams that don't matter.

I know we say it a lot on here but the next 3 weeks is the biggest month in 10 years. This team is at a point now where it should be playing finals, even if it's just one elimination final. It's the next step in our development. We're 4 years into the Roos rebuild. Missing from here would be a huge failure. That would put us a year behind where we should be. And the wheels can fall off very quickly. We've seen that.

We NEED to play finals this year, but I fear we've shown it's just not in our destiny.

We will beat Brisbane but lose other two, players have shut up shop. Top 4 on the line and thrown in the towel.

interestingly I think come finals Dogs' will have won 7 straight imo

On current form we will win none of the last 3 games. It's that simple. Somehow, Goodwin and co. have to reverse the present mentality, deal with tiring younger players, find an answer to the diappearance of the swarming desperation around the contest that marked our best games, and get the players to take ownership. This is key, and seems woefully lacking. That GWS scored 8 goals in 15 minutes without a forward line (their 3 leading goal scorers, FFS!) tells me that even if we re-discover patches of our best, we are horribly brittle at the worst time of the year.

Next Sunday will tell us all, but I fear that up against the likes of inspiring leaders like a retiring Nick Riewoldt with a last sniff of finals action, we will get utterly thumped. Call it MFCSS if you like, but I've seen this movie before (for 52 years) and nothing about this team and its capitulations tells me it's going to be different this time. The sadder potential outcome is that once more the football world will justifiably see us as pretenders, and laughably uncompetitive, which is a pervasive psyche and one the younger players could take into next year. As for destination club status, we will drop miles off it again. We've talked about season defining games a lot this year, but this Sunday's game truly wears that infamy.

Agree totally with this, nothing more certain in life death taxes and riewoldt taking us to the cleaners, we have dropped right off in all categories that made us hard to play against earlier in the year, I don't know if we are just young and tired or what's going on but right now we look miles off it, and I would be surprised if we won any of the next 3 just can't see it happening, we will look back and I would say that stretch of 6 day breaks killed our season and we haven't recovered

Next week is a massive 8 point game.

The Dags play GWS and Essendon play Adel.

We beat the saints we are back in the 8 with Brisbane at the G the next week with WCE playing GWS in Sydney, Essendon playing Garry ablett in QLD and Saints playing Norf at Etihad and Syd playing adel in Adel.

Dear Jim Stynes if your up there flick us some of that luck you never seemed to get yourself!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
