Must have been the best 15 minutes of footy ever!

This is a real success story though. If he wasn't the son of a past player you'd have to say he was plucked from absolutely nowhere. He looks very impressive and his development has been rapid. Excited for the club and for Joel that it appears to be working out nicely, and excited for us because he looks like he may be another unexpected jet.

Great news, he looks a real good type, he's got speed, strength and athleticism, hope he gets back for a few games at the end of the year.

Melbourne haven't got it up on the web site yet, bit poor.

For those who can't be bothered reading the article:

'As he is a rookie-listed player, the athletic defender will be permanently added to the club's primary list at the end of this season.'

It's sad that his debut game ended with his shoulder getting badly injured but it's good the club has extended his contract. He's a player for the future and this takes the pressure off to rush his recovery. Incidentally I always wondered how his father managed to take so many crazy high flying marks and not come out of with serious injuries, maybe he got the luck between them! Hope not!

Low risk, high reward strategy.

Well done to him, hopefully the extension of contract softens the blow of having to sit on the sidelines for the next 4 months

Joel has battled away when few believed he was AFL material.

If I were him I would sign the contract so fast the club would suffer a nose bleed.

From what we've seen through the JLT series and 15 minutes in his debut game, Joel has come a long way in a very short time.  He seems to have many strong attributes to build on, and based on very limited exposure, he already looks pretty comfortable at the top level.  I even reckon I detected a sense (tempered) excitement in Goody's voice and body language when he spoke about Joel post round 1 ........... but maybe I'm getting a bit ahead of myself there!

Shaun did get injuries from the high flying marks. Early in his career he did not worry about the landings and hurt himself many times, being carried off the filed on a stretcher a couple of times. I remember Neil Balme saying he needed to learn to land on his feet.

He was my SC backline smokey until he copped an injury.

Big things to come.

I can assure you he is not a smokie to the FD.

He's rated exceptionally highly internally, so I fail to understand the thrust of this post.

Super excited for Joel to be back playing footy.

Can he break back into the seniors? Hibberd wasn't available when Joel debuted and Melksham, Hunt, Jetta seem  to have their spots secure for now and Oscar is improving all the time.

Good point, I wonder if a couple of games in the VFL might see him given a go in the seniors prior to Salem coming back in...

As with a lot of positions on the ground at the moment, fitting in the good players seems to be harder than dropping players out the side.  Great place for the club to be in !!! Honestly feels like we have 26-30 players pushing a serious claim for the 22

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
