Nothing wrong with the Saints being rated ahead of us, as much as I hate them they finished on top of us last season with 12 wins, have added Jake Carlisle and we haven't beaten them in over a decade.

Theres room for both teams in the finals and I believe boith will make it.

What I find more surprising than more captains picking St Kilda than us is that not one of them picked North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Gold Coast or Collingwood. (I think it's too much of a stretch to expect any of them to choose Richmond, Carlton or Brisbane).

That's not to say that I think those four will all make it, but with 17 (or more, if co-captains did it jointly) making selections, I just thought there might be room for at least one of these to be chosen.

The saints had a easy draw last season Carlton twice essendon twice and as twice at their own dunn hill

Lucky we didn't have that draw last year! Instant 6 losses!

They beat us (for 10 years straight) and finished higher than us. They've also shown improvement over preseason and added Carlisle to their list. They deserve to be rated higher than us.

I expect we will overtake them as I believe we have more young talent, but it might not happen this year. I believe we are better setup to challenge for a flag in the future too.

Just heard John Ralph on SEN and he didn't have us in his final 8 predictions because it was done in January, but now he said he would.

Also reckons we need a star player like Fyfe or Martin and thinks we are THE destination club of the comp. Nice to know we are getting recognised at last.

Respect from Ralph Mouth?

When it comes it is so grovelling and excessive ,snivelling and late.

He is usually wrong so I'm not that grateful for his smarmy compliments.

Only a fool would pick the Dees over the saints at the moment given the history

Not to say that we wont finish above them and in the eight but on basis or reality I would pick them above us

Not trying to be cute but we have one current A grade star in Gawn and two likely A grade star players in Trac and Hogan and enough others like Clarrie and Salem who might also get there.

At the end of this season we will be looking for players based on need for certain positions to be covered (eg another quality tall defender) - not an A grade star for the sake of an A grade star.

Round One will be interesting on several levels.

We can measure ourselves against a team (ST Kilda) that everyone is touting as a finals 8 team.

We have a chance to break one of the worst voo doos in AFL in our Ehthiad losing streak as well as stopping the saints winning streak over us.

Set ourselves up nicely for winning the first 2 in a row.

I rate us as slight faves.

Look at the way we lost Round 22 and 23 last season.

There is your answer

Oh and how long since we have beaten the Aints??

our winning record at Etihad??

not rocket science

I think the Saints are slightly ahead. I'd also be tipping them to finish higher than us this season.

But like us, they can be hot and cold. Anyone who saw their worst performances last season can attest to that. We just always seem to get them at their best.

Which isn't frustrating in the least...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
