Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Maybe Carlton? Someone will probably take him, sure sounds like his days are done if we can get another forward/ruck option in. Pedersen is just more reliable and there's not a great need to keep both of them if Weideman and Hulett are options.

I don't want to bash him because I think he's given his all, but his body just hasn't given him a chance at his talents dropped away.

If Malthouse was still there they'd be after Cloke and Dawes.

He's done at AFL level.

It's been confirmed by Mahoney on the AFL website that Pedo will get another contract for next year and that Dawes won't be offered a new deal until the club has gauged the level of interest in market interest in him. Realistically there aren't too many clubs who's be interested in him, possibly Freo to add some structure to their forward line, but can't think of many other suitors at this stage.

I don't think this is what he said at all...it's about where our list stands not about the offers. Of course we would take one if it was good (my words)...

Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney told NAB AFL Trade Radio that Dawes wouldn't be offered a new deal at the Demons until after the player movement period.

"He's one of a few players at the moment that we're just waiting until the end of trade period just to have a look of who we bring in," Mahoney said.

"He has not (been) offered a contract at this stage."

One of the worst pickups and contracts in recent memory.  Hopefully he is de-listed.

I recall him playing one good game for the MFC, vs the Crows in 2014.    The rare times he got on the park he did nothing.

Disagree.

For the first two years, he had a decent presence and made a big difference to the team's performance when he played.  If anything, I think the clubs lack of mature forward options in his early years with the club may have negatively impacted his career by having him play injured, always rushing him back and not allowing him to properly get over injuries.

My view is that he's given good service to the club in the time that he's been here and it would be sad to see him go on the present terms.  I think the real assessments needs to be made by our medical/fitness staff, because if his body just isn't up to it anymore, then I think based his performance this year (which I'm has been limited by physical fitness) then, the club certainly can't afford to keep him on the list.

Not so sure. IIRC every time he was 'dropped' this season, he didn't play VFL then miraculously reappeared at MFC without doing his penance.  Did he play in any of the Casey finals?

Early this year he had played less than third of the games since he joined the MFC. So I would not say he has given the club good service. He has given his best and tried hard. But good service not the way I look at it.

Ross Lyon will do anything short of selling his soul to avoid a rebuild. If he thinks he can get a good season out if Dawes I think he takes a gamble on him. We wouldn't get a pick inside 60 for him at the trade table, I think he goes there as a dfa after the trade period.

Seriously, I think if we don't offer him a new contract then it's over for him as far as an AFL player goes.

He has plenty to offer in other areas of his life, time to move on to the law or coaching.

The thought of another club picking him up is fanciful but then again if WC are really looking at Petrie then anything is possible.

I reckon both Freo & Hawthorn would be decent fits for him.

Similar could be said of Jayden Hunt, but would we say the same about him?

As I said, his best years for us were his first couple.  During those years Dawes always worked his butt off for the side tackling, running, provided a target and helped us be a half competitive team, when we would otherwise have copped more of an absolute flogging than we regularly did at that time.

It's generally not the players fault when they get injured and so many people on this forum are harsh to judge on most recent performances, forgetting all that came before that.

He played 12 games in his first year.

He was decent in 2014 and helped the Roos era start off with a lot more competitive footy than the two years prior.

I'm sure he gave his all and was a good experienced head around the group but I think I'm with old dee. Hard to say good service when he only had 1 year out of 4 where you'd say he had an impact across the season.

There is only one club that has made an enquiry and that is the Lions but they were told, thanks but no thanks due to Chris' wife Paige being unwilling to leave her job/career in Melbourne.

Let me assure you that if no Vic club is interested, Chris will retire.

By the sound of it, she's on a pretty good wicket.

I'd work full time in the field of law if I were him. That's where he's best qualified.

Of all the players on our list, he strikes me as the one most likely to go on to a successful post-playing career still involved in football. I can see him forging a successful career either as a coach or on the administrative side. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him follow in the footsteps of Luke Ball and try a few roles before settling on a particular path.

His best B&F result has been 15th, and his average finish is probably in the mid 20s. For a player of his experience and salary, that is woeful. Comparing to Jayden Hunt on a draftee's salary and at the start of his career is just ludicrous.

Dawes was finished two years ago, and it is disappointing that we haven't said farewell and good luck already.

If so I would like to say thanks to Chris, he no doubt gave his all for the red and blue at every chance he got. Just a pity his body didn't allow him to do it more often.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
