FAREWELL CHRIS DAWES

I've got nothing against Dawes personally, but I don't see why I should feel bad that a bloke who has earned $2m over the past four years and never finished in the top 12 in the B&F has been shown the door. I'll be singing the same tune when Lumumba gets his marching orders in due course as well.

I support the Melbourne Football Club, not the individual players, and particularly not those who keep us mired in mediocrity. I wish Dawes well in his future pursuits, but am glad that he is no longer part of my football team.

Can only feel sympathy for players who get delisted.

Have you ever been sacked or made redundant?

It's a hard headed business but I hope there is always a place for decency and respect.

There is H, but as someone else said, it says more about the poster who denigrates the player than the player involved

The 4 guys delsted today gave it everything they could, just not good enough where MFC sits now

Agreed, I thought both Michie and Newton could make it, but could not take that next step when needed.

I'd like to see "Sliding" back at Collingwood where they might pick him up late.

Some said it here, that if he could ruck a bit, would be of value.  Didn't Neeldy agree to his request not to play ruck?  Self-defeating on both counts.

While I feel for the four men who've been delisted, it's a good sign of our continued improvement when coupled with the several new players (Lewis and Hibbard) we're bringing in...

It never fails to amuse me on posters who cant recognise the difference between everyone recognising the reasons that a player has been delisted (and most posters universally accept that the Dawes decision is the right decision) and giving that player a classless, vitriolic, plain nasty send off.

Am I glad or happy he is gone is not a question that crosses my mind. Do i understand why he was delisted and do i agree with decision ? Absolutely.

There can be obvious exceptions when we believe a player doesn't give it his best or is disruptive or dishonest about the way he leaves the club. But that is a rarity.

Thanks to any player who came to our club, gave it their best shot and for one of many reasons didn't make it.

I remember Dawes' first game for us. I think it was against the Suns. We got belted by 60 points at the MCG. He worked his butt off but simply couldn't get into the game. He was among our best but that says more about the team we had that year. He tried, but for his salary greatly underperformed.

I wouldn't have minded keeping him on a low salary as a backup ruck/forward. I think he offers more than Spencer, even if he isn't a traditional ruck.

Oh well.

He was the most tenacious key forward I have ever seen (when he was fit) and an absolute team players. Very good reader of the game and with limited stats he was able to have an influence on the game despite his basic skill level. His body has let him down which would be hard for him to accept given he is still a young man. Really enjoyed watching him play, All the best Chris, you gave your all, with a bit of luck things could have been different

Daws came into the team at a difficult and largely unskilled time; most players were in doubt about 'the game plan', not just the regular supporters. Dawes accepted the challenge as a true professional, doing a great job in motivating and merging with all of our players both on and off the field. Not one player consistently gave his 'all' to  match days and on-field challenges like Dawes. He tried his heart out, he chased and chased, he took marks, he kicked some great goals; his body was crying in pain and injury, and let him down after such effort, so often. We need Dawes with a solid pre-season behind him, without nagging injury. He is a true Demon, through and through.

All the best to him, I hope another club picks him up. He had his uses during his time here but sadly wasn't on the park enough to be able to fulfil his main use which was to be a full forward. Tried his guts out when we was out there though.

What a senseless opinion.

Then why else did he do it? We didn't see Dunn or Michie or Newton come out saying 'I'm happy to be paid less for the team' when they had barely played any games, had any impact and were about to be delisted.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Originally an NBL basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets, he moved across town in 2019 to the AFL Lions where he played 19 games before crossing to Melbourne where he was expected to fill a role as a back up ruckman/key forward. Unfortunately, didn’t quite get there although he did finish equal sixth in Casey’s best and fairest award. Date of Birth: 23 February 1999 Height: 198cm Games CDFC: 14 Goals CDFL: 13

Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute. He is slowly fitting into the team structure but without doing anything spectacular and needs to take further steps forward in 2025 for his career to progress.
