WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JORDAN LEWIS

Hawthorn are laughing all the way to the bank.  Hartung will never be a A-grade or B+ footballer.  Never.  Sam Mitchell is just past his prime and will retire in 1 year.  Lewis' decline will occur faster than most footballers.

When you come to the end of a dynasty, the tendency is to be ultra-loyal to your premiership heroes.  Geelong, bar Stevie J, did it, when they were forced to land a top-3 player about to enter his prime.  Brisbane kept their ageing stars, whereby Aker was forced out because he didn't conform...and there was the Bradshaw debacle for Fev.

Clarkson is a genius.  Mitchell is what 34.  In 18 months, he'll be in pasture.  But at least this 34 year old can move sideways in elite terms and has special awareness second-to-none.  Lewis is getting slower, and wasn't fast to begin with.  Hawthorn wont miss him in 12 months.  Actually, anybody that new anything about footy, came to Hawthorn's last game this year, knowing that the Bulldogs were going to treat them like wet cement.  Don't get me wrong, Hawthorn minus Hill, have our problem with less outside speed and run.  But Clarkson, if he can swindle pick 48 for an ageing one-dimensional 30 year old going on 36.....then it will be a decision that pushes them closer to their next window quicker.  The cocky eastern suburbs Hawthorn supporters may not like it in the short-term, but this strikes me as Croad mark II, so they will soon praise the decision.

As I said time and time again for the last 18 months, we are too one-paced and lack line-breakers.  This trade does nothing to improve it, only enhance it.

Man, you are a broken record. Bleating away the most poorly thought through tripe (sorry to mix my metaphors).

Lewis brings a lot to the club in terms of leadership and attitude and there us nothing one dimensional about either our list or our approach.

You should probably just head off and post on the Hawthorn forums where this kind of bull will be lapped up by the clarkson sycophants.

Lewis will be worth his weight in gold.  The stories, the training ethic, and the belief he'll be able to impart on our midfield will be enormous.  It's one thing having the coaches say we're building something special, but another to have a 4-time premiership peer to share their belief.

I do think Lewis is slowing down and was starting to get caught more than normal, but I also reckon he has enough footy left to walk in and be one of our top 3 mids.  Straight away he makes us better.  Lewis is a superb reader of the play, a ball magnet and very good user of the footy.  Just over a year ago he was AA, and in the final against Geelong he was Hawthorn's best player with 36 disposals.

Melbourne are developing an outnumber contested ball-winning team.  And Lewis will be super important in that pursuit for at least the next two years.

If you don't recognise the value he brings you haven't thought things through.

I don't think anyone has acused Hurting of being a A-grade or B+ footballer, he's bog ordinary in my opinion and if he was at another club he'd be labelled a dud, so I'm not sure what you are referring to, he's been one of their only reasonable selections in the draft in the last few years.

When you come to the end of a dynasty you need to recognise it before it ends, not after, they should have been working on this last year not this year, in fact probably the year before, Mitchell didn't go from 29 to 34 overnight, it happened over a 5 year period. If Clarkson is a genius he would have seen the writing on the wall after the GF last year, if he is a genius you will see it in the way the Hawks recover without a batch of superstars picked up over a couple of drafts.

You fail to understand the significance of Lewis coming to Melbourne and for someone like you that has a fair amount of "self belief" I find that extraordinary.

Did you see the way The Bont, knocked the ball out of Hodges hands as he was about to handball it in the final, that didn't show much special self awareness then, did he.

I think the author is confusing Jordan Lewis, the still elite AFL player with Joe Lewis, the American heavyweight boxer who undoubtedly should not have fought on against Rocky Marciano,

That won't happen. JKH is seen to have a big future with us by some in the FD.

lol, i cannot see that happening, after all they just gave away their captain for pick 88 and he was the best and fairest winner, why would we be giving pick 66 and a young potentially good player for the guy that came second.  no, back to the drawing board hawks.

Pick 66 plus JKH is what im hearing!!

Could see this happening if we're looking to free up a list spot. In the few years on the list, shown very few AFL level attributes.

As a side note...

Lewis gets more hitouts than Vickery.

Come to think of it, he also kicked 27 goals one season, which is only just shy of Vickery's best (36, back in 2011).

So maybe Lewis is the forward-ruck we've been missing?

More hitouts!? Hilarious, Vickery really is shite!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
