Out-coached in the last. Shocking to have only 9 interchangers left with 10 minutes left as you are running the game out with the wind. Their midfield got on top in a pivotal 10-minute period while we were stretching out our rotations.

Melbourne found a way to lose this. Umps were fairly balanced in the last. We lost poise and structure in the last quarter and seemed tired.

The game was there to be won but ultimately we tired ourselves out. Should have been fresher in the last but weren't even though North had a few banged up bodies.

North got so many free kicks from diving and ducking.

Team of flogs who cheat.

Am disappointed we lost, so many silly errors could be attributed to us blowing the game. But at this stage I blame the umps

The Demonland server has been struggling under duress for a while now.

Have to wonder about two of our GWS signings. Frost looks completely incapable as a forward, either he moves to defence or is delisted. Bugg is a bit meh and doesn't use the ball well or make good decisions. I'd comfortably have Matt Jones ahead of him. At least Tyson is getting closer to 2014 form.

Absolutely love Oliver. He is seriously Voss-like with his ability to dart off handballs. I had no doubt he'd nail that goal from 55m and he did. He's just made of the right stuff. His only blemish was giving away a goal for 'abuse', but given the way the game was going, given it was [censored] Harvey and given it was a duck, even THAT can be forgiven.

I can't believe we kicked a score of 20.11.132 under Roos and lost. At least we're evolving with modern footy I suppose, Ross Lyon's side is still kicking 7 goals a week.

I don't think the umpires cost us the game.

we still make stupid mistakes. Too often we lie on the ball and not get it out, too often we miss a target from three meters away under no pressure, too often we choose bad options.

Vanders miss was bad, Watts pass to Hogan instead of taking the shot, Gawns taps early in the last mostly being taken by North, once again our coaches not puttin anywhere near Harvey who kills us every bloody year. Last five minutes of the game we tried to be precise instead of getting it in long and fast which had worked for us. We still don't know how to stop momentum and to take the sting out the game. Too often we still drop marks that we should take.

But, if we play like that this week, we beat the pies.

Vanders started to impose himself physically for the first time this year, Kent and Harmes showed something, Lumumba and Jetta ran off really well.

A lot of positives to take from today's game.

In the last few minutes we had 3 rotations left, North had none.  No idea what you're on about praha.

Glad the boys impressed you with their turn around in effort, intensity and commitment to the contest....

By the end we had more interchanges left than them.  When Petrie went off with the blood rule they had no interchanges left and we had 6.  A harsh lesson for the boys, but the youngsters will learn from the experience.  Absolutely baffling why they didn't pay Harmes' mark.  I thought experience showed out when it came to staging for frees - though I thought in general last week the umpiring was worse.

Wish we played like that last week/every week.

All anyone wants is a 50/50 chance every week go to the cricketers arms a couple of times a year and watch show and take the kids to 4 or 5 games a season as long as your half a chance.

Pretty shattering to lose that game.

Some big improvements on last week. That effort & intensity needs to be the standard going forward.

Unfortunately we are blessed with players who butcher the ball & this is going to continually cost us games going forward.

Petracca, Brayshaw, Trengove & Neal-Bullen to come into the side are all positives to look forward to.

I'm hoping that the playing group can envision winning most games they go into now.

What a load of masochistic nonsense.  Yeah we would have won if we were better, but to groan about supporters who rightly pointed out the umpiring was disgraceful, jeez, some people...

We should have won this game, no doubt about that.  While we let them get away from us in the last part of the third I thought we would still be able to run over the top of them.  But a few mistakes and their experience held us at bay.  Had there been another minute in the game I reckon we could have snatched it, but it's not to be.

Plenty of positives - Hogan responded well, Oliver is a gun, Max took it right up to Goldstein (who got plenty of help from the umpires), Kent kicking 4 in the second half, our midfield stood up etc. etc. etc.

Lots to like, BUT, we need to do it again next week against the Pies who are prime for the taking.

Just got home. I have no voice left.

Just thinking about how that game was umpired makes me furious all over again. For me it almost ruined what was a thoroughly entertaining game.

Wind was a massive factor in the first half. The ball held up and was almost unmarkable when kicking to the non-river end (not sure what they call it). I think the score imbalances did reflect conditions - our intensity looked okay to me in the first quarter but we just couldn't score.

Viney best on by miles for me.

So in last 10 minutes, they used the interchange about 15 times to our 6, big difference

Did they?  Got some stats to back that up?

We obviously used ours perfectly, and may have even burnt a few in the second quarter to get back in the game.  The fact we had a few left in the final moments suggests we used them correctly.

THIS.  The focus should be on how many frees we gave away by being just plain stupid.

Great effort today.  Trying is always a plus.  BUT :

1.  The discipline and composure, especially for the last 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter was all that cost us this game.  We literally invented ways to give away frees in every single contest.  Horrible and you knew it was going to cost us.  So disappointing to hand them goals they didn't deserve and ultimately cost ourselves the game.

2.  There's certain players that go missing when the whips are cracking - and Tyson is at the front of the queue.  He is insignificant.  Look at how Viney and Jones stepped up in the last quarter.. and Jones was tagged all day.

3.  Whilst Tyson is frustrating, there were a few guys we straight up carried.  Frost is not an AFL footballer.  Pederson isn't great, but there is NO WAY Frost is a better player.  No way.  He is yet to show anything and we flat out carried him today.  But every time he gets dropped there is the constant bleating again 'Bring back Frost, he's so mobile'.  Can't get near it and had 1 tackle WOW.  Bugg looks shell shocked.  Stretch had so much space in front of him in that last 10 seconds and Bugg put it back over his head.  It was a simple chip to space.  Vandenburg had an absolute mare in all facets of the game. Watts - well his good and his bad just cancel each other out.  Very fumbly today though.

Anyone know how many goals they got from frees? Be interesting to know

A very large ammount. Great effort from dees today but shocking effort from umps. I love the way they set a game up by giving twice as many fees in the first three qrts and then even it up at the end when the damage is done. Umps easily fooled with ducking the head these days. These umps get paid well and need to either learn the rules or stop cheeting.

Garlett would have been very handy today, how much did the last kick of the day miss by?....Hogan best possible reply, Max Gawn is a star, got a few who played well for Casey to come back in....all is not lost.

Also, Dunn is finished. I am so sick of him and Garland dumbing up our team so damn much. You have a game there to be won and you look sideways. Astonishing. Just a dumb footballer. Can't wait until the final weeds of the Daniher and Bailey eras are pulled out of this club. Massive liability down back, once again.

You think so. 14 possessions at 100% efficiency and a goal to put us in front.

Thought Salem was terrific. Often shows ability to play that role, but think it's the first time he's had a sustained impact from half back. Surprised he only had 17 touches. With Lumumba and, at times, Stretch providing some speed from behind, thought salem was able to contribute.

Non-factor I thought as we mostly had control of the ball. Some costly misses - the Hogan and Kent ones - and poor choices with the ball, e.g. Bugg had Watts out the back on his own but went for Stretch instead. Our best players were on the ground and didn't look out of legs to me.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
