Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

The Demonland server has been struggling under duress for a while now.

Have to wonder about two of our GWS signings. Frost looks completely incapable as a forward, either he moves to defence or is delisted. Bugg is a bit meh and doesn't use the ball well or make good decisions. I'd comfortably have Matt Jones ahead of him. At least Tyson is getting closer to 2014 form.

Absolutely love Oliver. He is seriously Voss-like with his ability to dart off handballs. I had no doubt he'd nail that goal from 55m and he did. He's just made of the right stuff. His only blemish was giving away a goal for 'abuse', but given the way the game was going, given it was [censored] Harvey and given it was a duck, even THAT can be forgiven.

I can't believe we kicked a score of 20.11.132 under Roos and lost. At least we're evolving with modern footy I suppose, Ross Lyon's side is still kicking 7 goals a week.

Abuse. These umpires are too sensitive. Great effort from Oliver today agreed. Shocking shocking umpiring with to many goals just given to North.

I'm purely looking at stats, but seems Jones had a quiet game. Did they tag him?

Yep, tagged all day by Jacobs.

They tried him off the half back flank at various times to try and get him into the game without too much success.

Thought Salem was terrific. Often shows ability to play that role, but think it's the first time he's had a sustained impact from half back. Surprised he only had 17 touches. With Lumumba and, at times, Stretch providing some speed from behind, thought salem was able to contribute.

Agreed. Salem was good. Impacted a lot of 50-50 balls.

Looking at the stats over on the AFL site, we had more possession, more clearances and more inside 50's which seems to me to be a vast improvement on last year. So we are getting the semblance of a good midfield at last, so bring on Brayshaw and Petracca.

I'll look at the replay tomorrow, but from what I can see the game could have gone either way. I don't like losing but I feel better this afternoon than I did a week ago.

Pretty shattering to lose that game.

Some big improvements on last week. That effort & intensity needs to be the standard going forward.

Unfortunately we are blessed with players who butcher the ball & this is going to continually cost us games going forward.

Petracca, Brayshaw, Trengove & Neal-Bullen to come into the side are all positives to look forward to.

I'm hoping that the playing group can envision winning most games they go into now.

Fancy letting that little runt get 6.0. You'd be hard press to find an easier 6 goals.

Hate to say it but we should have had all the run in the last and to have fewer rotations available was yet another major coaching error. We were getting smashed in the last and that should have been expected given North's experience. The game was ultimately lost in that 10-minute window, half-way through the last, while we were trying to slow down our rotations to stretch them out. They had more run and it showed.

Also, Dunn is finished. I am so sick of him and Garland dumbing up our team so damn much. You have a game there to be won and you look sideways. Astonishing. Just a dumb footballer. Can't wait until the final weeds of the Daniher and Bailey eras are pulled out of this club. Massive liability down back, once again. That mis-timed jump as Boomer and two other North players fell behind was just astonishing. Should have stayed grounded. 10-year experienced player making a rookie mistake.

A problem on this site is that after a loss--even by 4 points in a game involving close to 250 overall, someone needs to belch out rage. " major coaching errors" Rubbish! Don't think you'd find many commentators to agree . Getting Higan involved early was masterly and he played easily his best game.

and Dunn gone? Again, sheer nonsense. He kicked a great goal and wasn't our worst and much of his disposal was exemplary. I was frustrated when both Dunn and Stretch went sideways deep in the last quarter. But on tv you can't see what is available downfield, and the worst option was to give the ball away.

and while I'm about it, some other dill has again attacked M Jines who, at a time we were miles behind, had more disposals than anyone. And Wagner? Promising first game. Some lovely disposals

Agree re Olivier, in spite of what we saw with Parish last week, Oliver just looks in another league. His awareness around the ball is already in a class of its own. On the other hand, he is still young, and giving away two 50m penalties (if I remember correctly) that resulted in goals was less than ideal. School of hard knocks, presumably he'll learn.

I remember back in the day, we used to talk about "getting games into the kids". Now, we've finally got a group together - plus the half-dozen or so running round at Casey - where as much as anything else, that's what we need to be doing. The future can't come soon enough.

We didn't lose today because they were a better side, we lost today because we were a less experienced side, and weren't able to finish when we needed to.

Jones still can't break a tag, last quarter they didn't tag him they said in the coverage.

Why they put him on the HBF instead of half forward beats me, Jones can kick goals.

How was Wagner, Frost, Stretch, Harmes and where did Salem play?

cheers

I thought Wagner was okay, laid a great tackle on Thomas in the third but outside of that he didn't do a huge amount.

Frost was pretty poor, no impact.

Stretch I thought was good.  Missed a few targets but kept his spot for next week IMO.

Harmes was okay, kicked a goal in the last and put some pressure on.

Salem played off half back and was terrific.

Any love for Roosy throwing Hogan in the middle early?  I know people will say they jumped us, but we smashed them in the middle, even in the first. Hogan got into the game and then went forward and continued.

To be happy or frustrated?

I mean, clearly our effort and willingness to impact most of the day was there.

But why again does it have to come on the back of one of the most insipid displays I've witnessed?

I hate that we seem to be able to 'get ourselves up' for games like today's.. As admirable as it was.

The next two weeks will be bigger tests for this group. And we better [censored] back that effort up.

Bad mistake by Watts in the last when he should have had  a shot (only about 30 out) went to pass to Hogan,  North intercepted and goaled.  12 point turnaround and would have had us 6 up. Overall good effort though and if we repeat that against pies and tiges we beat them.

Salem off half back as usual, but seemed to get forward a lot.

Frost was woeful.  I'd be staggered if he plays again for a while.

Harmes was better this week.  Kicked a nice goal, got robbed of a great mark which I suspect he would have kicked another goal from.

Wagner barely touched it but I couldn't tell who he was playing on to judge his defence.

Stretch worked into it, but didn't get a a whole lot of the ball.  I hope we give him another week.  He just looks small out there and gets swamped sometimes, like Toumpas used to.  But he's a bit nippier than Toumpas.

Norf showed composure that goes with experience in the last quarter. Some of our opportunities went begging, eg. vanders spray, Watts short kick to Hogan.

Yea some silly mistakes. Matt jones played ok but needs to just stopping kicking without looking up forward first. Jones well held. I really think the umpires helped North amass their goal tally.

True Moonshadow.

Harvey ,Waite,Petrie ,Goldy etc cut us up. It was a panicky last quarter with many errors.

I was at the ground, following from last week I was worried we could get monstered and at quarter time it was looking that way. The response after quarter time was incredible, it was a showcase of what we are truly capable against an in form team and in truth we shot ourselves in the foot (not for the first time).

key moments in the last quarter cost us shots on goal/goals and the opportunity to actually get the win.

It was not easy conditions with the wind blowing all over the place and once we settled we looked every bit the team we're capable of being. There is talk about the umpires, and so I'll start by saying we had our chances and we got punished for not taking them. But there were decisions that gifted them shots on goal that were North playing for the frees and the umps being sucked in.

They played a part but I won't say they lost it for us, we had enough chances.

Gawn was amazing and is capable of being AA, maybe not next year but it's in him. He was huge.

Viney played his usual heart out and was big when the game was in the balance.

Lumumba was MUCH better and his run out of defence was important, he still needs to learn when the time is right to do it but he was important for us today.

Oliver showed again why is going to be big for our future, and his first goal was a cracker.

Sooooo frustrating to see this after being dished up that undiluted crap last week, but they must build on it and we have to win next week. We just have to. Collingwood are a very average team and it will be a disaster if we are 1-3 after 4 rounds.

Oliver is a gun,  how he pulls off some of those handballs is just a thing of beauty.

Can't wait for the Weed, the Truck,  and Trengove to come back.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
