Bernie Vince set to sign new deal

Great news. He's really embraced the club, and his off field persona of a being a bit of larrikin, isn't reflected by his professionalism on and off the field. I'd say his close relationship with Goodwin would have a bit to do with his contract extension, but he fully deserves it.

Bernie is obviously highly regarded as signaled by his promotion to the Leadership Group and now a contract extension.  A move to HB will likely prolong his longevity on our list.  Hope he will still be around to enjoy the first years of a long and successful era for the MFC..  Great stuff!

I honestly thought we were bringing in Colin Syliva 2.0 when we traded for Bernie. He's obviously worked very hard on correcting his onfield issues which saw him wasting his career over in Adelaide, and has become a talented, tough, committed and consistent AFL footballer.

Bernie had done far more with his career than Col when we traded for him.  I did think he was probably past his prime, but still had class.  I was half-right.

One of the best trades we've done since I started following the Dees. He had an immediate impact in his first season and followed it up with an even better second season.

Great stuff Bernie

He started footy late so I reckon he still has some great footy left.

Love the bloke. No fuss. All class. Tough as. Might be able to play more outside with the young lads we have coming through.

Turned 30 in the off season.

About to enter the 3rd year of his 3 year deal with us, although I thought it had 4th year option maybe?

Signing him up for 2017 is important and he's probably good enough to go to 2018 if we get a team friendly deal. I think how he translates his play to half back will determine his value in the future. If he can settle there he can probably play for quite a while longer. I hope so anyway.

Glad someone wants to earn the Melksham money!

Vince can play till he is 35. I've always thought that, he is a footballers footballer, and those type of players don't age, not in this game. People always like to say that the game speeds up and older players cannot keep up, and that is partly true, but that it doesn't apply to all players. Players who rely on football smarts, skills, and have never had to rely on speed, they do not age. Guys like Mitchell, Vince, good on both sides of the body, they have lesser need to break the lines.

I hope your right because at best,  at least Re father/son,  Bernie will need to play right thru his 34th year to get near 100 games, (2018 season)  not to mention top 4.

I didn't think he'd be the gun that he's turned out to be, but Colin Sylvia 2.0? A bloke who never strung two consistent games in a row, let alone a whole season? I reckon that's mighty unfair to Bernie.

Perhaps, and I certainly have been proven wrong.

However it's worth noting that at first Bernie was against the trade to Melbourne.  It was only when he was told he wouldn't be offered a new contract with Adelaide that he decided to leave.  They were of the opinion that he was finished.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
