Haven't seen anything published; this is derived from Misson's injury report: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2016-03-30/rd-2-david-misson-injury-report.

Apparently McDonald and King had very similar injuries, no structural damage and well on the way to recovery.  Both expected to play this weekend.

As expected, Trengove and Petracca expected to play in the VFL this weekend with varying game time.

No mention of H or Brayshaw which I take to mean fully available and ready to go.

The full list:
Oscar McDonald - ankle - test
Max King - ankle - test
Chris Dawes - calf - 3 weeks
Jake Spencer - foot - 4-6 weeks

Great list aside from Spencer. We have pretty much no ruck back up. Scary.

Can someone please explain how the Brent Harvey/Jake Spencer thing of fully "popping" the plantar fasciitis leads to a reduced rehab time.

I don't know the specifics but it seems to be that a natural full tear seems to heal faster than surgically cutting it. Might be that there's less scar tissue as well as not having to worry about infection and other risks of surgery.

Once it's fully torn (surgically or naturally) it can start to properly heal. Before then if you can't get the required rest and rehab it's increasingly sore which is why Spencer was heading for surgery and Robert Harvey jumped from his dining room table as the legend has it.

Really happy that Oscar has escaped major injury. Might give the selectors something to think about for this week but just as importantly he should be able to get on with his development.

Same goes for Max King. He has the most potential as a 2nd ruck/forward option on our list so I really want to hear reports of his progress at Casey.

Interesting how Spencer was on the road to recovery a week ago after his foot complaint 'self repaired' (about to start running and 4 weeks away from resuming) but is now the dreaded 4 to 6 weeks away from resuming.  Has there been some sort of setback?

Yes very disappointing. Spencer is crucial as our only backup to big Maxy.  It is now our main depth issue. 4-6 weeks means 8-10 in total and Spencer will have no pre season base.

I do not write players off - especially youngun's like Oscar - I would prefer to say that I don't think he is ready yet. Would prefer to see some more game time at Casey for him.

He could be a gun in two years, he just clearly isn't ready yet and needs an extended time at Casey.

So in the doomsday scenario that Max Gawn got injured, what would the selectors do? Would they play Frost/Pedo rotating as ruckmen, or would

they take the gamble on one of the Kings, despite them being very very raw? I see the Hawks debuted a ruckman on Monday, didnt notice him get

any touches though. Ruckman clearly take a long time to develop.

On a related note, given that Max King is a rookie, are we currently able to promote two rookies (one for Milkshake plus a 'start of season rookie')?

I feel sick thinking about it but I would imagine they would start with the rotating Frost/Pedo combo, neither of the Kings are physically ready from what I have heard.

I actually wanted us to hang on to Jamar as a player/coach sort of role, just in case Gawn and Spencer went down. I understand why they didn't go with that as it has the potential to stunt the development of the younger ones but if Gawn goes down we will be in a lot of trouble in the ruck division.

Looked like he got a touch up from Selwood that he wasn't too happy about though...

I agree. I was amazed we didn't try and pick up another back up ruckman during the off season. Daniel Currie, Jonathan Giles or even an experienced bloke in the VFL.

I would imagine they must have their eye on someone for this off season as we just can't risk going into more seasons with Gawn, Spencer and the two Kings!

Agree....needs to gain 15/20 kgs and at least 30 games before we see any major development. If any weakness currently on list is- another tall quality experienced tall back.

Should have kept Fitzpatrick.

I think he meant 'young-un' as opposed to 'young gun'.....

not sure fnd.   Now that Spencer has torn the plantar fascia,  I think he might be back sooner, now its completely gone.  Once the soreness goes?  I'd be surprised if he's still off in 5 weeks.

Jake Spencer may be the Sam Frost of this season. 4 to 6 weeks with no end in sight

Misson's comment was that Spencer has just started working "outside", I interpreted that as progressing and that it's more about incremental work load and condition steps now rather than injury recovery per se.

It certainly didn't sound rubbery like it did with Frost last year. I guess we'll know soon enough!

Very good.

Hawthorn think he is ok as a forward/2nd ruck - Oh hang on that's exactly what we need. Who do we have? Frost/Pederson/Orient are?

actually what we need is a 1st ruck in reserve. different from a pinch-hit 2nd ruck resting somewhere (which is also need)

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
