Freo have been garbage for a few weeks now. Hoping for less than 10 goal loss! :D

Posted

It is hard to believe we are following up the misery of the last 2 weeks with a visit to Perth to face the top side

6 losses in a row to Freo

Ave margin 69 points

Last time we played them in Perth 90 point loss

Head-head $1.08 vs $7.50

They are playing like a bunch of gutless, disinterested hacks right now

20 goal loss, at least, very much on the cards

Not a bad way to buy some money. $1000 on Freo to win $80

It is sad that Fyfes possible suspension will make no difference to the result or increase our chances of a win

Actually there WAFL side would beat us next weekend

you are correct it will make no difference as well you want to bet he gets off with a fine.

We cannot have one of the potential brownlow winners suspended can we?

Because of priors, he cannot get a fine, If guilty he has to get weeks. just saying.

that would only be allowed if the player in question played for North, Saints, Doggies or us - all interstate sides and 'big' vic clubs are immune

Why would you drop Harmes if he was the only one going in and getting the bloody ball....

10 possessions, 6 clangers from 90% gametime. He needs a spell at Casey.

Rest Jones, Brayshaw, Gawn, Hogan and anyone else who desperately needs a week off.

The rest of the bludgers who dished up yesterday's tripe can lose three days of their lives flying to Perth, getting spanked, and coming home again. It's hard to include McDonald amongst those, but maybe the likes of Dawes and Garlett can bring him drinks and snacks on the flight over as penance.

Bring in a few fringe dwellers and see how badly they want an AFL career. Casey have secured their finals spot so it won't matter too much to them to play with a weakened side for one week.

Once again I see little being gained in continuing to play Brayshaw. 1 tackle on the weekend when he was regularly piling on 6-9 in the first half of the season. Don't run the kid into the ground. If he's done for the year then he's done.

We've seen what happens when the defensive side of the game falls away almost entirely. Select the 22 fittest and most dedicated players this week. Skills errors and fumbling the ball like it's lathered in soap are just expected now, but we can't accept a lack of intent and pressure when we don't have the ball. It is fundamental to being even remotely competitive.

Didnt the bookies already pay out on him? Madness.

On average, I get to see one game a year.

If the MFC decide to rest 4 or 5 our best 22 just because of a "we're gonna get spanked" mentality then I might just throw in the towel along with the club.

Taking my young bloke for his first game of AFL and if it's just a repeat of last weekend I'll be bitterly disappointed for my lad.

Bring your best team and put in a decent fuggin showing.

I don't think Roos will rest players because of the "we're gonna get spanked" mentality, but I don't think that Brayshaw and ABN are going to do us much good when neither can run out a game.

Brayshaw is absolutely stuffed, he is going to be a gun, and it would be a shame to break him down now. He has dropped off significantly and obviously needs a break. At best I'd make him the sub.

Might also be safe to keep Hogan away from Perth... he may choose not to come back.

This game is over before it has even begun. Selection is not going to matter, but it's telling that the players who put in the most effort yesterday are those with careers on the line.

Might not be the worst idea to give some of the kids a break, and play the battlers who are desperate to prove themselves one last time. They might turn it over 100 times, but at least they'll try.

Would also really love to give Jones a break and not make him play his 200th in Perth and in a monumental loss. Probably deserves better.

Get where you're coming from but he'll definitely play. As he should. He's the captain of the side and will be desperate to improve on his recent performances.

You'd like to think the boys will lift for his 200th. If there's been a more admirable servant to this club in the last ten years I can't think of who it would be.

Sadly Mcqueen the weekends team is close to the best it gets at present.

There will be a couple of changes forced by injury.

No matter who plays the result will be the same

Have to play our best team (whatever that may be). But I wouldn't bother with wholesale changes.

Not really in to resting guys unless they need it. Brayshaw needs it, but he can be the sub.

Out: Lumumba, Dawes, Harmes

In: Jetta, Jamar, Tyson

FB: Garland Dunn Jetta

HB: Salem McDonald Howe

C: Newton Vince Stretch

HF: Tyson Hogan Watts

FF: ANB Jamar Garlett

Foll: Gawn Viney Jones

Int: Michie Grimes Cross

S: Brayshaw

E: Harmes, M Jones, Riley

Does anyone know the VFL finals qualification rules? I'd say most of the guys down there should be qualified but I wouldn't take anyone out of Casey and force them to miss finals.

Honestly who cares...

I'll tell u how the game will go no matter the personnel on the park.

Freo will kick away early, Melb will wake up at some stage when freo have a comfortable lead and the pressure is off. Then Ross will say boys were playing finals I want you to go hard and freo will kick away in the last to win by at least 80pts...

Roos and the boys will say we didn't see that coming, they'll review the game and say geez our contested footy and tackling is down. We need to improve.

Then we'll go away from the club for a couple days, enjoy some time off then rinse repeat v gws

What we've seen the last few weeks is a team not bothering to put an effort in. That can't be tolerated. It's time for Roos to back up his claims from when he started and bring in the players who have earned a start.

Bring in Jordie McKenzie, Aiden RIley, Mark Jamar, Jack Fitzpatrick and Mitch White, all of whom have had good runs of form and should have been called up well before this.

Drop Lamumba, Dawes, Howe, Brayshaw (he's cooked and should have been rested weeks ago) and whoever else isn't performing.

The players we're bringing in might not be the most skillful on our list, but they will all give an effort. If we're lucky they might be able to drag a few of the regular side along with them.

I agree, you don't improve culture by giving up, either as players or coaches (understandably supporters do). You don't rest the captain so he can play his 200th in front of an empty Eithihad stadium, you don't drop the young kids so they can avoid being 'scarred'. You drop players that are injured or under-peforming.

Outs would be Lumumba, Garland and probably Dawes all injured. Howe unfortunately for trade purposes continues to play unless he is mysteriously injured.

We lack aggression and we lack intent. The only Melbourne player I can recall getting in the face of an opponent was Bernard against his mate Patrick in Adelaide. Football is a contact sport, as the great John Kennedy said the 90% is played above the shoulders, mentally we're too submissive to the opposition. This isn't about the coach, its about the players belief. We had 2 tackles in the first 20 minutes last weekend and only 5 in the first quarter, you have to have the mindset to compete, even before the opening bounce. What I want to see is the Hawthorn metaphorical line in the sand, I want one of our leaders to come off the square in the opening quarter and flatten Fyfe or Mundy. I'd happily give away three or four free kicks for physical acts (not like they won't win the free kick count anyway) and start setting standards.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
