Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Diet

I must admit that I was somewhat of a sceptic when it came to this diet thing but based on reports and on what little I've managed to see of the team in the off season, it seems to be working, even with our promising young guns ~

Top draftees shedding not gaining kilos

Roos said Petracca, who has a powerful frame for a youngster, was around the 93 kilogram mark when he started at Melbourne and would be about 90 kilograms now. Roos envisaged that Petracca's eventual playing weight would be in the 88-90 kilogram range.

[NOTE: We shouldn't forget that at the end of 2013 Petracca was nudging close to the 100kg mark before putting himself on a diet to enhance his draft prospects.]

Roos said Brayshaw had "probably gone from 88 (kilograms) to 84."

I think the player who has changed body shape most is Jimmy Toumpas. I really struggled to work out who he was at training this week....much trimmer and lean. I would be interested to know what his weight is today compared to draft day for him.

If it has these sort of results, the good wife may insist on a similar diet for me ...

I am just thinking of my feeble attempt at the diet, as I chomp on a piece of rocky road. Is rocky road ok on the Paleo diet?

You and me both mate but after trying it out for myself I can say that I am impressed and it really does make sense. You don't have to be a Nazi about it but eating more vegies meat fruit and eggs and less rice pasta and bread (and sugar) is certainly preferable.

I really hope that dropping the weight does not mean being weaker, i do not know the inner working of muscle tissue and fats and so forth, so i am having difficulty seeing the advantage of losing weight if it isn't being turned to muscle, but i have also heard muscle weighs more than fat, so to me it doesn't make sense, i just hope we are not getting weaker by slimming down.

Ok so fat and muscle weight the same but 1 kg of fat is a larger mass than muscle, but the same worry still applies as the players are losing weight. Why would they have this much flab in the first place if they get tested for such things all the time?

I'm not a dietician and I regard Maccas as good nutritional tucker but I'm wondering if this paleo thing is behind the team's fade outs after half time?

My suggestion is that we feed them pasta all week and see what happens.

Was this a thought to you after we played Gold Coast aswell?

Clutching at straws methinks... it was just a case of the team having a collective brain fade in the second half and then panicking once they woke up to the fact they were being overrun.

I had heard that they moved away from that diet. It's a 2nd had source so not sure about the truth of it.

Maybe it's not the diet, but rather that 2nd hand source that made them NQR...?!

I used to run back in the days when carbo loading was the buzz and while I have no scientific knowledge of how these things worked, I always felt better when running after a pasta meal.

It's probably clutching at straws to blame the diet but they certainly looked listless in the second half on Saturday and likewise in the second half of the NAB Challenge against the Doggies so perhaps it might work psychologically for there to be a brief change in the diet. Could we do worse?

Google glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. You don't need to literally consume glucose to fuel your brain.

I wonder who, in this thread, actually has any serious qualifications (other than Dr Google) to discuss this stuff. Not that lack of expertise stops us discussing many things!

With all due respect to all D'Landers, I would hate anyone to take dietary advice from postings on this board.

I do a bit of running myself, and I've always found that a pasta meal is just about the worst thing I can eat after a long run. I guess that just shows how important it is to listen to your own body when it comes to health and fitness. Edited by Chook

Maybe 'TDI' could ask at training this week.

Wouldn't surprise me if that were an off-season diet. Allowing them to bulk up and slim down, but then moving to the carbs and extra energy during the season.

They still do carbo loading the day of a match.

(I believe ...)

The problem on Saturday wasn't what's going on below the neck, but above it.

Did hear in preseason that they had ditched the diet, anyway would be interested if true or not. This came supposedly from someone close to MFC but from a supporter of EFC so maybe he couldn't find the records.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
