We would have won easily if we'd kicked straight and Daniher had been his usual self. Against Geelong we kicked 18.5 today it was 7.18. Most underrated stat in the game.

I never expected it to be a formality, so I'm not as upset as others. But I hate Essendon with a passion, and we should have won, so it's terribly disappointing none-the-less.

Just want to single out one player. Max Gawn. One of the worst performances I can remember up against a nobody. His dinky little flicks over the back to Essendon players was the low light for me of a thoroughly pathetic day for this football club. One that still manages to surprise me (I dunno how), with its ineptness.

I presume you're kidding about Gawn, otherwise that's the most ignorant assessment of a player's game I've ever seen.

The ball has to go somewhere remotely near them for them to contest jackass.

Ok let's [censored] off jones Viney and Vince then because they couldn't give our forwArds goals on a silver platter.

Stupid comment mate, chasing and forward pressure should be a non negotiable, good entry or not.

We must be the worst side in the league when it comes to kicking 4 goal. I'm tired of Dawes not being a reliable goal kicker. We need either to get rid of all the crap kicks or spend up and get a kicking coach. I can't stand hearing how bad a kick McDonald is either. Don't they practice their technique. It's not good enough, they either improve or don't get games. It's football afterall how u get 2 AFL standard & not be a good kick. It's got 2 stop. Danhier kicks 5 straight & we kick 7 18. I'm so glad I didn't go 2day. I get angry supporting this club sometimes. It's not like we didn't know they'd come out all guns blazing. Please let's not gift games to players who don't give a flying......

Our very own Adem Yze is hawthorns goal kicking coach and skills in general..

From Hawthorn website

Yze played a key role in harnessing the Hawthorn players' elite kicking skills as they developed into the AFL's deadliest team in front of goal over the past two seasons.

Since 2010, the team's accuracy has soared from 48 per cent to 57.1 per cent.

For those who felt it necessary to call Daniher a spud before the match - serves you right. As for me saying I was happy that Baguley was playing, well . . .

No, he is a spud.

Kicking 5.0 straight against Melbourne doesn't make you any less of a spud. Evidently, *only* doing it against Melbourne makes you *more* of a spud.

Where do you start after a loss like that. Dawes does not give enough, too often he is muscled out of the contest. essendon players lead us to the ball most of the day, we were lucky that they often over ran it or we were able to tackle them quickly enough. Gawn put in a great effort but needs to do more than just dropping the ball down at our players feet that's what Jamar does. tom McDonald has been a terrible kicker forever, what are they doing to fix that. while the spare man in defence killed us, we got enough of the ball presumable because we have extra numbers up the field, our problem was our delivery into the forward line was putrid and our forwards did not apply enough defensive pressure. all in all a heartbreaking loss.

Love Viney's intensity, but he's got to be more effective (= damaging). 11 disposals at 45% efficiency, including 4 clangers, plus 3 frees against doesn't actually put all that much on the "plus" side of the ledger.

ANB, Stretch due for a run at Casey I'd think, and Brayshaw could perhaps been rested.

Don't agree with the doom and gloom around here, though understand - as losses goes, that was about as deflating as it gets. But even if we'd managed to scrape home for the win, don't know that I for one would have been feeling much better. Still a long way to go, just hope that they're learning from these defeats that should have been wins.

Did you actually watch the game champ? It wasn't just inside 50, we bombed it all over the ground. When the ball is being bombed 20-30 metres away from you how exactly do you contest without having teleportative abilities? We're not talking silver platter, we're talking kicking it remotely near where there's a player, that shouldn't be that hard.

F### it... What does it matter. We are honestly never going to be any good, what does this result really matter in the bigger picture.. I knew we would lose this game, typical melbourne! We shouldn't be surprised by it.

I usually try to stay positive but Dunn not running for the ball in the last few seconds of the 3rd quarter made me feel physically ill.I'm gutted we lost that one,I never leave until the end but today I was the first one to walk out of the MCG after the final siren.

The Saints loss deflated me more than this one. We must win our next two games now.

1. That's silly. He was our best player today. 2. The draft is a lottery. We need to trade to get some better players. Draft picks are no guarantee of good players.

FFS give up watching footy mate. If you couldn't see the problem today was the constant bombing, especially inside 50, just spend the weekends knitting or something.

We see it differently here, mate. We lost this because we were playing dry weather, over possessive, cute football. We need to move it quicker and longer inside 50 and the forwards needed to bring the ball to the ground a lot more. It didn't help Jesse was ordinary again and Jeffy's man killed him. Dawes was actually in our top 5 players, with his harrassing and his tap work was superior to Gawn's, which says an awful lot.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
