Post Match Discussion - Round 15

We just kicked ourselves out of it.

Roosy take the whole team for swim in the bay at 6am down at st kilda for some hardness training

No run, no enterprise, no structure, no idea of what to do. Looked so slow. The reality is that both sides were bloody awful for most of the match but in the second half Essendon wanted it more. It seemed more important to them. Just wish we had a Heppell who sets the example for his teammates. Our forward set up was just terrible. Congested and no sense of where to go. Most of the time they just stood on one anothers toes. Played like a totally dysfunctional team. However there was bright lights particularly Gawn and McDonald and some of youngguys who did not give up. However the lack of a game plan and an inability to change the run of play was worrying to say the least. They played like they had the flu. They played dumb football. Sure we kicked like dogs but the way they played was so depressing

We just seemed dumb and lazy today, and it worries me that Roosy couldn't snap them out of it.

Worries me too, mate. Agreed.

Jordie McKenzie must have taken over as kicking coach.

However you frame it, this was a disaster. To be beaten by an Essendon reserves side shows a lack of effort and application.

They only started to apply themselves in the last quarter.

I hope we don't hear the same old platitudes from the Club this week. This crap happens far too often.

Crying won't do anything. We kicked poorly and it lost us the game.

Move on to the next few weeks where we have more winnable games.

if going into today's game wasnt winnable....there are none

Here's some statistical evidence on the main problem today:

Garlett, Viney, Vince, Jones, Brayshaw, Howe.

What do they have in common? ALL of them had LESS than 60% disposal efficiency today. That's a pretty important group of players as far as disposal goes.

I'll say it again, I told people not to get ahead of themselves but people such as H_H didn't listen.

Typical Melbourne.

We've had our one good win for the year.

Time to put the cue in the rack.

7.18. Honestly. This club, somehow, finds new ways to disappoint me.

Tom Mac in the last quarter though...

9 times out of 10, Tommy Mac couldn't hit the side of a barn from 5 metres away.

So Essendon players were playing off our forwards by 20-30m?

Hurley was able to rebound so easily because he was playing 30m off Hogan? If Hogan is that much of a non threat that his opponent is off him by that much then what is he doing in the Afl?

Read before you write, stupid post.

Hurley was able to rebound because Hogan wasn't farken chasing him and applying pressure.

Why won't our forwards chase and keep the ball in our forward 50? Are they lazy, prima donnas or not accountable?

We have improved, but we are just finding ways to lose at the minute, between this game, the saints game it's just so frustrating

Earnest...in the main agree. However T Mac was well beaten . His AA form seems more myth than reality. Was only shifted fwd to minimise the damage back imho. Hes not a fwd in any capacity.

Problem is our mids all lack class and smarts. They work hard to win the ball and mostly just bang it forward without any creativity. Vince Jones viney Tyson cross vanders cross all similar.

Anyone defending or understanding any aspect of this performance must be fully conditioned to the infinite shitness that has been this club for the past decade.

Post of the year!!! On top of that comment I do not want to hear any [censored] comments coming from players or coaches at this club.

Shameful and embarrassing. Might as well have lost by 100 points FWIW.

I would love to see the following stats:

Gawn taps straight to an Essendon mid

Essendon marks inside our 50

I'm sick of the coaching for our mids when they get a clearance to just throw it on the boot and go for metres. Vince and Jones are serial offenders and it makes them look ordinary.

We need A Grade mids desperately. Add Danger, Prestia and Treloar and we might be a MOR team. Just.

I think Roos was out coached again. Would love to see Goodwin take over in the box on game day.

It takes a bad performance to be out coached by Tird.

Fawn had a lot of the ball but very little taps to advantage. Jamar-like in ffat.

Edit. Freudan slip

Not sure this is true. We didn't find a way to lose today, we never looked like winning it. Those blaming the kicking are not seeing the truth. They read the game, used the ball better, and began playing for each other in a way we never do. Like the St.Kilda loss, we never deserved to win. People forget that the Saints had the ball camped in their forward line for most of the last quarter. It would have been very unjust if they'd lost. How have we improved since last year? There's simply no evidence at the moment.

I am just about done supporting club and AFL in general. We couldn't even beat a team that was playing half a VFL side today.

Watch for Paul Roos to use the old get out jail card.. 'players were scarred today'

That win against Geelong means absolutely zilch now

there you go again lionheart

cue a big win next week and dazzle talking dynasties
