Damo just made the comment on the Footy Show that talks are ongoing with Howe, he wants 4 years on good money and we aren't willing to meet those money demands. If memory serves correctly Damo also said that we are unlikely to meet those money demands as well, so if he stays it will be on our terms. Seems as though we would be happy to offer him 4 years though.

He didn't say that's what we were offering, just what Howe was asking for - 4 years and plenty of cash. Whether or not we meet that remains to be seen.

3 years would be about right for Howe. He'd be a free agent after that. He's in his prime, can run and kick and has so far stayed healthy. Got no issue with him asking for 4 and us saying 3.

The money is interesting. Hard to get a value on a player I rate as only fringe 22 at a good club. Still puts him well above the league average of 340k but well below 700k.

If a team wants to pay him they better give us a good trade, that's my thinking on Howe. Otherwise we might say ok Jeremy 3 years at 400 or 450, maybe a little more with incentives.

Roosy has shown amazing loyalty to him - as he has done to almost every senior player with the exception of Grimes and Jamar.

He knows he is wanted by Roos, yet he wants his manager to get top dollar.

We are close to the cap from the sounds of it and we want to lure another player or two - so ultimately we can't give him what his manager wants.

As a result he either accepts a deal around the 400K mark or seeks a trade.

On the positive side is that if he wants to go to GWS, he can now tick two boxes being a middle-aged player (25) and versatile enough to offer something at either end of the park.

And given they now look to have lost McCarthy, they will be keen on finding a forward to compliment Cameron and Patton.

That's a win for us because I reckon we could now ask for more from them in return - perhaps Plowman and their second round pick.

Plowman is way more likely to accept a deal in the 300K area.

We have remarkably few average players who would give us a better return at the trade table.

Not dissimilar to the club rating pick 3 above retaining Frawley. I fully expect this to be the same scenario, albeit without free agency.

Howe would be asking for 600k, not 450k.

We'd pay Howe 450k over 4, I would, I expect the club would do that without many dramas.

I just get the feeling Howe is asking upwards of 600k, which is just not practical for MFC, but other clubs are probably offering him 550-600k.

If that is the case, let him walk. That is just my estimation of where this is at, pure speculation, like everything else atm.

Very happy for us to play hard ball on him, I felt he had a good year last year but he's had a very average 2015 IMO. Will be ironic if he does leave given he cracked the 100 games and took his best hanger for the year in his last game.

I disagree with this on a couple of points. I think Roos sees Howe for what he is, talented but inconsistent & error prone. You say Roos shows loyalty towards all players, Roos is an expert at showing external parties what he wants them to see. It's obvious that as a club we were prepared to let Frawley & Howe leave if it helps build our list. Roos sees most players in that light hence why almost all of our players are tradeable.

In terms of the salary cap I'd say we'd have close to a million to throw at Dangerfield for example so we can't be that tight with the salary cap.

We whinge when players don't show loyalty and we whinge when they do.

If the figures thrown around are true and his manager is putting too high a price tag, I understand the complaints on this, but not on him asking for four years

He has played all 22 games.

Appears to have followed coaches instructions.

Seems to be doing the 'team' thing a lot more.

Has been consistently above average in most games.

Methinks those things are valued highly by coaches when it comes to B&F.

I would not be surprised if he is in our top 10.

Hang on Howe is only 25. I guess he wants stability, That would take him to 29 and he could still continue to play after that. Its the money I have an issue with. I dont want to throw thousands at him. But if he is saying he wants 4 years to me it sounds like he wants to stay. But we just cant over pay him.

Contract value = annual salary x no. of years. He's trying to lock in $2m+ for himself. Why wouldn't he? I hope he considers other factors like how f@#$king good we're going to be in 3 years. I also hope he stays because in this era of boring "modern football" he remains a player that is worth going to the footy to watch.
