Why not just pick up James Gwilt as a delisted free agent. Same age and similar playing style as HL. Last years stats very similar and would cost us nothing and come with no baggage.

Finished top 10 in Saints B&F so played some OK footy last year.

IMO - they are chalk in cheese on what they offer to the team.

For goodness sake stop using the word Homophobia. !!!! It is a nonsense. Homo Phobia is a fear of the same not a 'disdain for' or 'hatred of'. a same sex attracted person. Make up a new word for it. I'm tired of this nonsense word.

Would totally kill the mood and comraderie

Some people need to take a deep breath and have a look at the recruiting of Hawthorn and Sydney in recent years. Can you find a single example of where either of those teams have used a high draft pick or made a significant trade for a player who is not either a ball winning midfielder or a key position player? You simply don't build a premiership team, even a half decent team, by investing in flankers and utility types. Build the midfield, build the spine and, once you have done that, then you look for some cream to go on top.

The footballer formally known as Harry O'Brien (hereafter known as TFFKAHOB) is a half back flanker and a fairly average one at that.

Thankfully I suspect Roos and co know a little more about list building than the morons that have been in charge in recent years.

Yep, Gunston is a HFF, Hale a forward pocket/ruck and Gibson a HBF who sometimes has to play tall.

Shaw a HBF, Malceski a HBF, McGlin a HFF who recently has spent more mid time.

It's not so clear cut 'poita', they haven't in a lot of cases had high draft picks to trade anyway and I don't think we will be giving away a first round pick on 'H'

I trust Roos will get the mix right though, his predecessors certainly stuffed it up.

Over on the Collingwood site there are some that think Lumumba is worth Clark and a draft pick.

There are some delusional people around.

There are plenty who live on this board as well!

I feel sick EVERY time I hear of this person being licked to my beloved Dee's!

I even thought it was a 'September April Fools Joke" when SEN today mentioned a swap of Clarke and Laboomba!

He is a nothing player and will only cause (more) grief at Melbourne!

That's not that surprising given Lumumba's played about 60 games in the past three years compared to Clark's 15 or so.

But I'm hopeful the fact that Clark is key forward/ruck - an even more valuable commodity in the current game - means that the Pies desire to get him will mean they see a trade with Lumumba as a fairly even split.

To me it's a very even transaction, because both have offfield issues, both are about same age and both solve problem areas with their respective new clubs.

But for us the best bonus is that Lumumba's ability to provide dash from the wing means Roosy has an obvious replacement for our current tall wingman - and I don't mean Daniel Cross.

Without commenting on any off-field issues and what we would need to trade to get him, but purely from an on field perspective Lumumba is exactly the type of player we need.

Can play half back and wing, has explosive pace, likes to run and carry the ball and is generally a good user and decision maker. Importantly, he has a touch of spark about him that can lift the team and the crowd.

All of the above would be very welcome in a team that is lacking in the attributes that he would bring to the table. Who currently can spark the side with devastating line-breaking run?

A good mate of mine is a passionate Collingwood fan and he is very angry at Buckley for moving on a number of experienced players and in particular the prospect of moving on Lumumba. He has watched Lumumba every game for years and is a big fan.

Pointless stat: if he comes across, his first game for us would be his 200th AFL game.

He's experienced, still relatively young, has hardly missed a game in the last 5 seasons, and is exactly the type of player we need as described by Scoop above.

Might be good to finally have someone with some flair. Let's get him

... and yet I wonder why I feel a trifle uneasy about the prospect of getting him on board at the club?

A good mate of mine is a passionate Collingwood fan and he has watched Lumumba every game for years and can't stand him. Says he is completely unaccountable, makes horrible decisions and is a horrible user of the ball.

I have debated with him several times as I'm a huge fan from what I've seen. But he is adamant and says many other Pies supporters can't stand him as well. They see a lot more of him than I have and I rate his opinion, so opinions are evidently divided on him as a player. Not sure if he would be the ultimate disciplined role player which characterises a Roos player.

Having said all of that, from what I've personally ever seen, I'd love to have him. I've seen him tear a big one in several top teams over the journey as well as us.

Because he's unique and has standards that aren't from the 'cookie cutter' football-speak world? Too many smart experienced football people rate him as a person for me not to think he's quality, just different.

I sat in front of a Collingwood supporter a couple of years ago who just went to town on the bloke all game--so much so that I wondered if he hated him for some other reason besides his poor disposal. Every time Harry did something good, I waited for the guy behind me to say something nice about it, but he didn't.

I can't stand Lumumba off the field, what does he call "Otunes" now by the way?..

And I can't stomach him on the field. Gets it, baulks/goose steps, runs 20 and kicks it long and high 55. Often in hope, often turned over.

However, I can't stand Jack Grimes either. Gets it, hesitates, hesitates, looks sideways, kicks it 20m and turns it over.

So if I look at it in terms of metres gained, we're 55m better off with Lumumba.

But Grimes is a better defender.

And Grimes is a perennial coaches and supporters favourite so I'd have to deal with both of the headaches in my team.

How about the Lumumba thing f_s off, ship Grimes off to GWS, get Sam Frost in who isn't the best kick but has pace to burn and will develop nicely. Get Malceski via free agency. Trade Clark and an early pick and whatever else they want to Adelaide for Tex.

We'll start to look alright.

Someone else can figure out how to fix the midfield.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Firstly the bad news - McVee went down late, which does look like a bad hammy - towards the end of match sim, as he kicked the ball. Had to

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
