Would love to hear Roos's thoughts on the impact Dawes had on the team. We moved forward with so much more purpose and confidence. Knowing that we posed a scoring threat seemed to give our mids a shot of confidence as well.

As FD said it was probably the best 8 possession game you are likely to see.

Listening to 3aw on the way home because they were the only station still covering our games its amazing how many richmond, collingwood and even essendon fans were ringing up saying how good it was to hear the melbourne theme song at the end and it was good to see us win. Granted they were only happy because carlton lost but it was nice to have some love there for awhile.

How can you watch it there Mr S

I arks because I have a daughter living in Wales

Subscription, yearly or by match, month etc. Works OK/well, though is better on an iPad through their app. But started at 4.45 this morning, not sure just how much of a Demons fan your daughter is, that's hard yards there. Slightly easier across the water, where we're an hour later.

Over at Talking Carlton the "Sakc Malthouse!!!" is into page 64.

Meanwhile, things are hotting up on the "R4: Carlton v Melbourne (Post Match Rant Rave and Vomit)" thread where they want to burn the place down.

Does this sound familiar?

I'm sitting in Seoul South Korea and just watched the game. Absolutely pathetic football. Take nothing away from Melbourne but Carlton show no fight at all. They are not playing for each other. They are not covering in contests and their disposal is frightlingly poor. Who knows where to from here. I am at a loss.

Well done Dee's. Our effort was not that much different than round 1 and 3 (first three quarters) which will be lost on most. We just had targets to kick to forward of the ball, played a team who didn't hurt us on the turn over and had Spencer playing against a ruck of equal stature.

Great to see our leaders lead and Jack Viney back to his manic best.

Before this round, only Jones, Spencer and Cross averaged more than 4 or more tackles a game.

This game we had 13 players lay 4 or more tackles. Huge plus for team effort and no doubting that was what got us the match.

I only had radio and numbers up here in Sydney, but Jones clearly was extraordinary. Cross, Frawley, Grimes and McDonald all sounded/statted like they were making a big contribution. Duble figures 1%ers from McDonald again.

I'm really pleased with Spencer's contribution. His best game to date? Competent disposal and a few marks to go with solid ruck contest and his usual steady stream of tackles.

I think the big story of this game overall is how many of our weaker players were at the very least 'not liabilities'.

Confession : I thought and stated that we couldn't win, in fact would go down by 10 goals. I said we wouldn't win a game this year, and that we were the worst AFL team since Fitzroy. WRONG!!!!!! And how! I offer my contrition to the players out there today, and any suggestions as to the nature of my penance from Demonlanders will be greatly received. Unless they involve public nudity.

I would ask those Demonlanders who have laid derision on Matt Jones and Jake Spencer to fess up too. Do it, you'll feel better!

My feeling

To quote the Beatles. " will you still need me. Will you feel me, when I'm 64". That poster should take the short bus drive over the border to North Korea. He will feel better.

So all those people saying we wouldn't win a game this year will be feelin like muppets right now (and rightfully so). Dawes was so important today, but it's funny it's not totally reflected in the stats. The two goals he kicked were absolute team lifters and he played a part in several other goals. But the big thing was all of a sudden the players moved it quickly to a target and although he didn't take the grab every time he made sure it came to ground almost every time and in fact his mere presence caused the blues players concerns.

A good team effort today well rewarded.

You don't even need the ball to go into the fwd 50 with Dawes, he is just such a super kick and from distance, gives us so much more.

Matt Jones was excellent today. I've questioned his ability but never his effort, and today he made the Blues look second rate.

I questioned Grimes as captain material going forward. Today he was every bit a leader on the field.

I potted T Mac for his costly mistakes and from that point onward he didn't put a step wrong.

Basically, I love being wrong when it comes to this team.

Meanwhile, our win over Carlton and Brisbane's capitulation to Port contribute to a feeling, just for the moment, like there are multiple other clubs who have slipped back a bit even since the start of the season, while we are gradually getting it together.

Plus, Western Sydney keeping being respectable mid-table performers, making our initially awful-looking loss in the swamp look less disturbing.

Not sure I've quite healed from the woulds of being smashed by West Coast, or being cut up by Riewoldt and especially Clint Jones in round 1... but the mood is definitely turning.

A few of our coming games now have that little edge of unpredictability about them.

Would love see us keep up the effort, steal a win against some of the up-down teams we face in the next couple of weeks. But to me it all builds up to the chance to pick off another over-rated media-loved team; killing Richmond's season in round 9!

Meh it's only Carlton... Wake me when we beat a Doggies or a GWS...

Kidding great to see the happiness while away in Europe, I was quite happy to be going away for 4 weeks to avoid footy, to bad as our CEO is a mad blues man...

Go dees!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
