Whilst on the subject of Jurrah, perhaps we could look at getting a priority pick from the AFL of any NT player, considering our commitment there.

I was thinking this the other day actually. We should be trying to get a zone selection priority for the NT as a way to grow our influence in the NT.

Nice idea but to be honest, I'm growing less and less fond of playing games in Darwin given the standard of performances the week(s) following. We are ordinary enough without adding an extra impediment.

You mean you can actually tell the difference P_Man?

With our lack of funds I think there is every chance we will play more games up there not less.

I'm absolutely for taking Jurrah back onto our list (a rookie position, you'd think).

Of course, in order to do this, we would need to be a proper football club and do proper homework and proper due diligence. If it appears he is back on the right track, and he can back up his statements with actions (e.g. this pre-season), then to me the gain we stand to make outweighs the potential loss we stand to cop.

A fully fit (of body and mind) Liam Jurrah is a player I would want playing for my side.

All that aside, as stuie said earlier, I think it's great that the club and players have been in touch with Jurrah the last year.

These highlights are from just ONE half of the 2011 season. Boy, he sure could play (offensively anyway).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LN_rYSCwu0

Would love it if he could get it all back together and win a rookie spot on our list.

Thankyou, that was brilliant to watch. There was always so much anticipation whenever he was around the ball. He had magic in to spare. Such a shame that he is so flawed in other areas of his life.

If you ask me, the AFL would have a lot to gain from bringing the career of someone like Liam Jurrah back from the dead. An indigenous player with his talent and background would be the greatest possible role model to people of all walks of life who would like to become involved in the industry, but whose personal circumstances seem prohibitive.

Get on it AFL!

I would love it to happen but would there be the commitment from Liam? And is his body up to it? He spent a lot of time injured in 2012 that led to the problems. Modern footy is unforgiving and tends to push out the freakish types like Liam and could I add one Alan Jackovich.

I dream but if only the Gods were on our side I would have witnessed Liam and Wonna in 100 games, the Ox reinventing the centre half forward role and Jackovich kick a 1000 goals over 12 seasons. But then I wake up.

Here is something to dream about:

- Paul Roos joins Melb

- Quality young successor joins (Burns/Simpson)

- Watts signs a 3 year contract

- Club lures two quality young midfielders through trade

- Jurrah is Rookie listed by Melbourne

We have already ticked off 2 of the harder ones - now for the other 3.

Sit back and watch membership and crowd numbers double.

All sounds like a great dream besides wasting a rookie spot on a guy who's background is so troubled he's unlikely to stick around long enough to provide any meaningful benefit to the side.

How about club trades for 1 quality midfielder. Club recruits midfielder in rookie draft and develops him into absolute superstar like Kieran Jack.

I swear if this happened it would be the best Christmas present ever. Legal issues would be a hurdle especially given how the AFL is run today, but commitment? pfft- how long have we kept Sylvia for? Jurrah had a huge say in shaping the club and attracting support for 3 years, with all the indigenous footballers that have left the AFL system and returned home prematurely in recent times, surely now is time to roll the dice. Rookie list him at the least

There have been reports from posters who are either NT based or have strong connections to NT football and the individual players that there is a yawning distance between the mindset you need for AFL and the mindset where Jurrah has been and is.

Struggled with the demands of AFL when he played and given the upheaval and trauma in his life it is a fantasy to expect he could be mysteriously be given a rookie/main list spot like you would plug in a toaster.

Even if fit in body and mind, the defensive side of his game will need work. Too many lacklustre performances in that regard.

Of course you tend to overlook it when the offensive side is so ridiculously good.

IF anyone could get him to engage in what is needed it would be Mr Roos! Not saying he can or will, but, if anyone can it is him.

Notwithstanding the highlights reel and the compelling narrative about his journey to AFL, I'd rather we picked Tom Rockliff in the 2009 pre-season draft (who had been training with us) than Liam Jurrah.

That said, word has it, Rory Sloane was also a lock in at pick 35, but yet again we failed to play the percentages.

Rockcliff and Sloane would be very handy for us right now.

Ah....hindsight is wonderful.

Remind us all how many clubs overlooked James Hird how many times?? Pick 90 something as I recall. Chris Grant?

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
