Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Brisbane gets priority pick

The win today won't help their cause, maybe Carlton will ask for a priority?

Chances of Bris getting a pick declining rapidly. Will still get extra funding from AFL for infrastructure, which will be of more use. Necessary for their survival like it was for ours.

A PP alone wont save Brisbane.  They are almost like us a few years ago. They need a Paul Roos to come in and build everything from the ground up and totally change the culture.

I cant think of anyone obvious that can do that for them, Roosy is a rare breed.

Can anyone compare MFC with the Lions performance and honestly say the Lions deserve a priority pick ??

Is it the AFL again showing bias against the traditional clubs.

Surely the Lions academy is enough. Let them rebuild and go through a decade without finals action.

The AFL will do whatever it takes and if that means screwing the weak Vic clubs they will.  What probability would you put on Essendon having been merged with GC around now if they weren't such a rich club.  Otherwise I doubt if the AFL could have resisted the temptation presented by Essendon's 'problems' of reducing the number of Vic teams and bolstering a QLD team.

Melbourne's 2013 season: 2 wins, 20 losses, percentage 54.1%.....   PRIORITY PICK REJECTED

Brisbane's 2016 season: 3 wins, 19 losses, percentage 61.1%.....   PRIORITY PICK ??

Why such surprise? Everyone knows they make it up as they go. If you expect consistency from the AFL on anything you will die disappointed. We shouldn't throw stones though ... we got gifted Jackson and Roos on the AFL dime.

Look that's definitely true, we may not have got the priority pick but what we got was better. It was club changing for the long term.

That said I always thought the AFL set a dangerous precedent by giving us nothing that year. They could have given us another second round draft pick and that could have at least satisfied the idea of lending a hand through draft picks.

The AFL doesn't have a Paul Roos type coach available to do what he did with us again though. Roosy definitely sounded like he was ready for it to finish after Carlton and after Geelong that would be enough to beat any last thoughts out of him.

The AFL did better than a priority pick by facilitating PJ into our club. Because we were fined for bringing the game into disrepute by "not tanking" and had screwed up with so many high draft picks the AFL was never going to offer a priority pick to provide another high draft pick. That we got a first rounder (pick 2) for Frawley was a good outcome.

Brisbane need a PJ and Roos more than they need draft picks. If they fold it will be a tragedy for the game given what Fitzroy becoming the Bears did to their supporters.

On a positive I think I'm cured of MFCSS as I no longer relish in other clubs misery unless it is Carlton, North or Hawthorn.

If they get a priority pick I will console myself with the very comforting thought that Essendon have been denied the first pick.

I dont think Brisbane would be given pick one. They would most probably be given a pick at the end of round one, or less likely, a pick after their first pick.

Get over it people.

Melbourne's problems, poor performances and bad seasons were the clubs own dong. We all know the club tanked to get draft picks. We had the wrong people steering the ship and created our toxic culture. We never deserved a priority pick. We dug our own hole and the AFL dug us out how we really needed it.

Brisbane are a club in a state where no one watches or gives a toss about footy.  The clubs beyond broke, they can't retain interstate players and their facilities make Junction oval look state or the art

Give em all the picks they can get, still won't help em. Look at the Gold Coast. Given everything and they're still no good.

all this 'we didn't get one so why should they' crap is just more of the usual demonland outrage police and whinging this place is famous for.

The flaw in this type of argument has been exposed numerous times before. The only way you get to the bottom is by your own doing. Whether it's poor coaching, poor recruiting, poor development, poor culture, poor management, etc. - the reason you find yourself winning 3 games in a season is typically going to be due to mistakes that your club has made.

You mention problems about Brisbane's location - I didn't see these issues getting raised when they won 3 premierships in a row with one of the best teams we've ever seen!

When we applied for a PP we had won 34 games in 7 years.

Brisbane have won 45 in their previous 7 years (plus 32 in the three years from 2007-2009).

There is absolutely no justification for Brisbane to get a PP based on us being denied one.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
