  1. An Arthroscopy to repair minor cartilage under one of the best surgeons. I believe it is a good outcome. Could be back within the early rounds. I would take that under the circumstances,

  4. Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure orthopaedic surgeons use to visualize, diagnose, and treat problems within a joint. Yes, the word comes from two Greek words, "arthro" - joint and "skopein" - to look, meaning literally "to look within the joint", but the surgeon uses the arthroscope ( the small camera which displays pictures on a video monitor ) as a guide for his miniature surgical instruments. So hopefully the procedure was minor and Ben recovers quickly because the small incisions result in less pain for patients, less joint stiffness, and shortens the time for recovery.

  6. Yes its a fluff article, but actually worth a read. The Melbourne Demons are a genuine 2021 AFL premiership contender

  8. I am still very positive and feel that we have a real chance at top 4, it is up to the coaches and players to share belief and resolve, things can turn around real quick if you believe.

  9. as Sir Humphrey said " never ask a question you don't know the answer to ...." Bruce may expose more than he wants to hear. Remember it was the Australian Crime commission which first alerted the AFL to check out what was happening.....

  10. Lever had swelling in his knee on his way back from his ACL. He got back on the park ok. Tracc had a knee cleaned out after 2018 - He's gone ok since... Take a breath people!

  11. It will be interesting to see if Mark Williams can improve our kicking skills, until we can kick the ball better we won't win a premiership.

  12. No way - too sensible. I reckon we should panic, certainly well before we know the facts. After all, this is how the masses on the planet seem to operate these days.

  14. Better a minor arthroscope op now. Than a more serious or even same op running into the second half of the season. Sounds as if it is minor, if it was a major or really serious situation it would have shown up previously or when he is on crutches, Arthroscopes can fix minor problems, at the same time as looking, a gentle snip here, another there, and soon, no cartilage no problem. This is not the 1960's and he is not John Townsend. Wait for the orthopaedic surgeons report. Go Dees

  15. My first thought was that Emirates, as key sponsors, would be horrified. However, having been sent this photo from a mate in Germany, it may not even raise an eyebrow (shout out to @dieter)...

  16. I'm not an expert but this doesn't sound too serious. Best be conservative, get the knee right and make sure he's right for the rest of the season, including finals.

  19. He had the surgery this morning. Knee surgery for new Demon Ben Brown
    3 points
  20. Eh.... I'm not too bothered. Imagine if we hadn't recruited Brown and it was Weid who was injured: We'd be going into another season with a dodgy forward line that'd just got dodgier. Now it ups the ante on the others to shine so they keep their place once the Brownster is back and fighting fit and pluggin' 'em....

  21. I think the list is the best since 1998, the players like Jackson, Rivers and Pickett must step up and improve and BB needs to be on the park soon. As for winning a premiership lots can happen between now and September, we need our list to be relatively injury free and have at least 16 of our top players who play nearly every round and the finals. Premiership teams always depend on the core players and the bottom 6 must at least be competitive and make a contribution to the success of the team.

  22. Sometimes arthroscopes are exploratory and sometimes they are just used to clean out the joint following a previous surgery.

  23. I don’t believe we have the mental strength to string together a consistent season that results in threatening for a flag but I do agree with the point that there is more depth and capability in parts of the ground than we’ve had for a while. Small back/one wing/small frwd my only real question marks at the moment - I reckon in prior years I’ve had a LOT more question marks

  24. He was a prolific goal kicker with the Doggies but was cruelled by two knee injuries from what I can remember, just before being acquired by the Dees. Nothing much was wrong with him with his ability to score goals for the MFC, however, the amount of goals that he had consistently kicked for the Doggies was not replicated at the Dees due to those severe and recurring injuries. Most of us, in the day, were jumping backward somersaults of delight at his acquisition; many of us were saddened by his debilitating knee and mobility problems that hampered a continuity of the many, many goals across many, many games that he was once able to achieve with Foot-is-cry. He truly was an absolute star forward - one of the best of all time - and largely unstoppable; his ability was observable from time to time in the red'n'blue - but was also short-lived and cut short a brilliant career. Up one week, down the next few, back in the team again, in recuperation. He was significantly handicapped by the longitudinal effects of the aforementioned injuries (the Doggies realised that he would struggle and traded him - otherwise, if he had not been so hampered in the legs, the MFC would have no chance of ever recruiting him off Footscray, and neither would any other team in the former VFL.) Templeton was one of the absolute greats who fell off the shelf in a time when knee injuries and subsequent surgeries were a very risky business.

  26. Not surprising, it was never going to be nothing. Interesting that it is cartilage damage - whether it is a rip in the cartilage or scar tissue hard to say, but these things are generally repairable.

  29. Most bandaging is PREVENTATIVE only. Approx 70% — ie not post injury taping. Especially ankles and shoulders. So if you rested all taped plates you’d be resting 70% healthy and fit players. god some ppl need to grow up. It’s SWELLING he doesn’t need a damn reco... ALL teams cop injuries, this is just insanity. He will be fine and has been dominating all PS with the swelling g club just want to be sure they are handling correctly.. crikey moses!!!

  30. The trouble with Champion Data's "Eliteness" system is that they overdo the targeting of the stats they use for each position and as a result make some eyebrow raising conclusions. It is always "Elite in this set of statistics which we select as being the relevant ones for this particular position." It's the elite ratings process that Groucho Marx would come up with; "I'm the best 38-year old, mustached, 5 foot 6 inch, cross-eyed, one leg shorter than the other right fielder in baseball history."

  31. At least we seem to be training to respond to/ take advantage of the new rule. I felt 666 caught us out.

  32. The one rule change they need to introduce but refuse to consider is reducing the number of players on the ground. All these others are just tinkering around the edges and making the game harder for the umpires and more frustrating for the supporters.

  33. Not sure whether it has been mentioned already, but the one positive is apparently BB is not in any kind of pain and the concern is more just in the swelling itself i.e. they dont want it to develop into something more significant. Having some degenerative conditions myself I can tell you that there is always pain and stiffness (and my Osteoarthirits is so small that its not even detectable on x-ray or MRI). No doubt he would have had scans on his knee following the original injury and MFC would have definitely known about any structural changes to the knee (i.e. osteoarthritis) in the medical. My gut feel is its something probably not so sinister like scar tissue (formed as a result of the injury) in the ligament / tendon creating some inflammation and swelling in the joint as it rubs some of the boney structures. Hopefully an arthroscopy can clean it up and will allow the effected tissue to heal properly. I'm expecting ~ 3 month layoff but i don't think we can write off his career just yet.

  37. It is clear that Eddie was reading from a prepared statement when he said it was a proud day for the club. So how can he say he used the wrong words due to the pressure of the day? Clearly he/they would have been burning the midnight oil to get the statement right. So it is equally clear he/they were trying to pull the usual PR stunt of turning a negative into a positive. Indeed it was his opening sentence which is most carefully considered wasn't it ? (I ask because I can't find the full statement on line).

  44. Yep they certainly can be if you dont have much cartilage tissue left which is then what leads to OA (ala Tom Langdon). But the fact that he was not in any pain is what you need to factor in, which suggests (not definitively) that you don't have any bone on bone interaction as that would most definitely generate a inflammatory response resulting in stiffness and pain. Obviously this is all taken at face value and as I have learned personally no hard rules when it comes to your bodies own unique response.

  45. Carlton also have Director elections carlton-board. However, "Carlton members have been voting online since January 28, with voting closing on February 22" whereas we had paper and 'snail mail', in both directions. Could have saved us a fair bit in printing/mailing costs had we created an on-line option.
