  1. It's not the song itself. She could have sung "chugga chugga big red car", or yodelled "the barber of Seville" while breakdancing. The point of the story was having the guts to seize the moment, your one opportunity, and make the most of it. And he showed them real footage of someone actually doing that. I wouldn't put too much stock in the musical tastes of "the demographic" anyway, seeing how it loves "Freed from Desire" so much.

  2. Been mentioned a lot already but Clarry's goal might be the single most hype moment in MFC history. The last of 3 goals within the last minute of the 3rd. The visual of watching Jackson, Viney and Clarry stream towards goal unimpeded like a red and blue tidal wave. The pinpoint handball from the future of the club, to the present. The full-speed shot on goal that sails directly over the goal umpire's hat. The slow-mo point from Clarry and the elation of Dogga and Sparrow trying to catch him - what an iconic piece of vision. The burial of 57 years of history, and probably the apex of one of the most dominant periods in any football game. And the cherry on top, the shot of Treloar and English in the centre square looking like they've been slapped across the face with a dead fish, unable to comprehend what the F is happening. What an incredible moment from an incredible game.

  3. absolutely. Jordan Lewis remarked that those actions, when you’re having a quiet game, make all the difference. If TMac doesn’t overpower Cordy, then no goal and the clock runs out for 3/4 time. i think it was TMac who got a crucial hand into the marking contest that set up Trac’s brilliant dribbler.

  4. No, it wasn't. In one of the earlier finals Goodwin was asked at one of the qtr breaks, his advice to the players. His response: Be yourself. He was saying to his players bring the best version of yourself. 'This is Me' meant something different to each player. It was the trigger to help them find that best version during the year. It is worth listening to the song again. Inspirational for anyone who has self doubt or wants to bring out the best in themselves. .

  5. Interesting when they were speaking about grown men brought to tears, this is me. When I was in the queue to meet the cup yesterday and turned the corner and there it was. When I gave it a hug. Every time I watch the replay (even the third quarter of the prelim). When I hear our coach talk about getting some feedback from champions of different industries on what it takes to back it up and win again. Bang. Bang bang bang. I'm a bloody mess, but a happy one.

  6. Only 1 premiership player since 64'. Might well be behind a few at this stage - certainly not the flashy stuff of Robbo and Jurrah - However by the end of his career reckon young Rivers may be the best of the lot. The kid just gets to the right spots, a ball magnet from half back as a 2nd year player. No sign of 2nd year blues - so much upside to come

  7. Ross Dillon was my first ever Demon hero, closely followed by Robbo, so I love the number. Apart from Jurrah, there’s not much else on the list to get excited about, though in saying that , obviously Rivers is going to rewrite the history of #24

  10. Who cares about international viewers? It's their great misfortune to not be in oz for our footy. It's our game, our expressions and our premiership. After 57 years nothing can be over the top or embarrassing..

  11. When I bought my personalised MFC number plates ( 57 MFC)about ten years ago, I didn't know 57 would be so significant. At the time, I chose 57 as it was the third of our hat trick of premierships. 55,56,57. Now, wouldn't it be wonderful if the latest 57 number would be the START of our next hat trick of premierships? Very possible I would think. Anyway, here's hoping. Go Demons!

  16. 1: Dillon: 85 injury-interrupted games in a very ordinary side in which he won regular Victorian selection. 2: Robertson: 228 games, great player but one dimensional, mark but no chase... 3: Jarrah: the complete freakish footballer, but only 36 games... Trent Rivers will be number one by the time he's finished.

  17. Ross Dillon was one of my favourites but Russell Robertson is a Demon great that has a special place in my families hearts and agree that Trent Rivers could be anything.!!

  18. I also believe Tmac did his role and Charlie all contributed. Hibbo similarly and all the defenders except Salo kept a tight rein on the Dogs forwards. Figures for some defenders weren't high but hey we kept the Dogs dangerous forwards tightly undercontrol and the mids caused us a slight problem but overall 16 shots for goal and only 3.1 in the second half was match saving footy. Nothing less than what our defence had done all year. Magnificent and elite with all contributing and Maysie proving he not only talks but he walks the walk very very competitively. A real hero's game with Naughton taking marks with all being well outside his distance. We other than our second quarter lapse played the game on our defences terms especially the first half of the third term. So much of the ball to the Dogs for so little result. Then we took or chances and bang bang bang. Result 🏆❤️💙🍾

  19. He was certainly on my radar when I was a kid. One of those all round sports who excelled at football and cricket. He played in those days when a knee injury was the end of many a promising career.

  21. Wow Skuit, you are hard. I have no problem seeing how a theme like that could motivate and galvanise a group that needs to believe in itself to break out of a narrative that casts them as unreliable losers. Maybe I'm just soft

  23. Have been on DL for a while. Not since before the GF. But so good to win a premiership. Have waited so long. Sat through all the crap years in the freezing cold at the G. Watching us struggle to put 10 goals on the board. The club have got this rebuild so right. The whole finals series was a joy to watch. From round 20 onwards we were certainly the dominant side in the comp. There has got to be some real opportunities to go again with this group to! 🔴🔵🏆

  26. watching the replay will be easy... no one will bother until around 10 minutes into the third quarter and then it's 45 minutes odd of pure bliss. Hopefully it's a nice day and one can wander in Yarra Park until the big moment

  29. Sonsie looks a million bucks in his highlight videos, reminds me of a player in the Merrett/Parish mould, but I can't imagine he'd fit the JT type given his flaws: The consistency, or lack thereof, is not shown from his disposal numbers, but more so his four-quarter impact and willingness to get involved with or without the ball. That could partly come down to his gut running, which plenty of the best midfielders in the game have who are on the smaller side like Sonsie at 181cm. Players like Ben Hobbs, Nick Daicos and Josh Ward work very hard without the ball and have plenty of repeat sprints in their game, whereas Sonsie can coast from time to time. https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/tyler-sonsie/

  30. My point is that whilst on an individual case by case level this might true, on a community wide level it isn't. I might be wrong (paging webber). but this excerpt from the info referenced seems pretty conclusive that the impact of influenza is not as bad as covid: 'when compared with seasonal flu, covid was associated with an increased risk of extrapulmonary organ dysfunction, death, and increased health resource use, such as a fivefold higher risk of admission to intensive care and longer stays in hospital.' In short, a flu outbreak won't overwhelm our health systems. Covid will - as Europe is tragically about to discover. Agree though we need more people have flu vaccines to avoid dealing with both diseases simultaneously.

  31. @La Dee-vina ComediaI tried putting a '1' but it got a little lost amongst all the other data. So have put in a instead. Will add more Premiership Cups as they come 🙃🙂🙃. Here is a preview of the 2022 chart with games played. If anyone sees any errors please let me know. In updating the no of games I noticed that: Viney played his 150th game in the GF. I knew it at the time but the didn't appreciate the significance. Doubt many players in AFL history have achieved such a significant milestone in a winning GF. Jordon is accredited with 25 games. He took the field either as a player or a sub in 21 of those games. To me that makes him a worthy recipient of a GF medal as he played a key role in helping us get there. Moreso than any other player. I will update the draftees and list size after the draft.

  37. Picking a favourite goal is like picking your favourite child, they are all my favourites because in the end the premiership was won and we have a team worthy of the term the Mighty Demons. It like asking which disposal of Petracca is your favourite. Maybe the first goal from Petracca was the best because it helps settle the side in the most important match of the year or Fritsch 2nd goal in the 3rd which gave the side a sniff or Petracca's 2nd goal which started an onslaught or Sparrows 1 step goal in the middle of 3 or Oliver's running goal which broke the Bulldogs resistance. You could ask the same question what was the most important moment of the match and I would say that Bailey Smith's fumble in the 3rd quarter allowing Harmes to get a clean disposal and pass to Fritsch which basically shifted the momentum.

  40. Was bored this arvo and rewatched the Brisbane and Geelong finals. Damn that Sparrow kid can play. Set up some great goals in both and backed it in the GF. Might never be a Petracca or Oliver, but looks a very solid 200 plus player

  43. As many of you fellow Victorians would attest to, over the past week we have endured some of the strongest winds I've ever seen in my life other than sitting through a category 3 cyclone 20 years ago in Cairns. Houses have wilted, multiple massive shipping containers have collapsed on each other , 100+ yr old trees destroyed, towns without power for days. My Dees scarves, tied only by the tassels at each end to my flimsy tree in the front yard have not moved an inch .

  47. Sparrows one stepper from 50. Not for his goal so much but for Tommy Mac grabbing Cordy 5m from the goal line and pushing him back, back and finally giving him airtime 3m over the line. That show of force summed up what we did to the Bulldogs for the rest of the night
