  1. Cal Twomey's article has freo wanting to take 4 picks in the draft. They only have 2 inside 55 at the min(11&32). If we trade 50, 28 and 19 for picks 32 and 11 it may be a great deal for all parties. The points work out exactly the same. Even if we make it 18 instead of 19. We get a much better first round, still get our end of first round/ start of second round and our 3rd pick in 32 is still a very good pick. They still stay in first round or start of second, improve their second round pick and get an extra pick (50) to help them fill list spots. Winner winner.

  2. Could I suggest that the thread title have a question mark to minimise the risk of us collectively having kittens.

  3. While I agree what we saw of Petty in 2019 was promising I have to wonder what makes so many on D-land gush about him being best 22 next year. For me he’s going to have a tough battle to get games. Whether it’s defence or forward he’s at least one player behind making the team.

  5. I'd be amazed if Freo would drop 7 places in the first round to move up for 4 in the 2nd and add a very speculative pick 50. I get the points work, but that doesn't really come into play if they are using all the picks to draft, and not to match an Academy pick. 18, 19 and 50 for 11 and 32 is more likely needed to get them to bite, which I think is too much for us. I like the idea of using one of our first rounder to buy back into next years first round. Either Syd or Collingwood, if we can manage it. But an end of first and late 3rd round isn't likely to do it for us. Deanox's option a few posts above may be our best bet.

  6. As someone that's known this kid and his since primary school (he's my brothers closest mates from up my hometown of Yarrawonga) I try and stay out of any talk regarding Jimmy Jordan. But to answer your question, I don't know whether he has a contract on offer and it seems likely imo now that he will go around for another year. But in my honest opinion I don't see him making it. He'll be depth at best. A few locals were shocked that he was drafted so high as we thought maybe rookie at best, or undrafted. I know he got drafted on the back of some pretty decent school games at Caufield Grammar so it's obvious that Jason Taylor and his team see something in him. All up to our coaching staff now.

  7. I haven't quite got my head around the exact permutations, but if Sydney are risking damaging their first round pick next year, perhaps they'd be interested in: Sydney's 2021 first and third round for picks 19, 50 plus our 2021 second. Or similar. Yes, they lose their 2021 first, but it was going to be damaged anyway. So they get another clean 2nd rounder to go with theirs, plus some extra points this year.

  13. So was the rest of the team.... That included All Australians and Top 3 Brownlow players. Bit harsh to really pin point his game in those poor team outings.

  14. At this rate he will finish his career as the best player to pull on the red and blue in my lifetime. He's phenomenal and still underrated by the wider football community somehow!

  19. People are bringing up trading our future 2nd. We can’t do that, unless we trade in a future 1st.

  20. No chance I'd be trading both 18 & 19 for a single better pick. 19 + 28 on the other hand would be fine if they have a specific target.

  21. Sometime the bumping of these threads are unnecessarily vindictive. I always love reading through them (especially ones where I haven't made a goose of myself.). It's great that people are willing to offer their opinions and no one is right every time. These threads are always a good read to put yourself back in the time and place and see how views change (some very quickly).

  22. I love the way he talks. Wears his heart on his sleeve and doesn’t just give out the usual boring cliches. As for on field, he is a ripper. Hopefully he comes back to preseason in great nick again.

  23. But LT Clarry can go To another level to not just a Demonngreat but AFL hero by damaging the opposition by run snd foot carry plus kicking more goals when we rest him up forward in the future !

  24. Harmes has a poor year. HB didn’t suit him but I am still disappointed in his season. A midfielder with good skills and aggression should be able to play HB at least to a decent level. Hopefully he can bounce back

  27. I really don't want to get into politics, so I hope this is my last word on the subject. Be let slide by whom? I presume you mean other posters since the mods can't chase every short not strictly footy comment. There have been numerous references to Dictator Dan that slid by. Did those offend you too? They probably offended some. Remarks that offend one's beliefs tend to be more noticable/offensive than one's that support them. I know it's tempting to comment (eg. me here), but it's best if we let one-liners that offend our personal beliefs slide by and have a quick nod at the wisdom of posts that support them.

  29. I reckon the State government is investing in all this AFL infrastructure as you will see a massive drop in new commercial real estate builds in the next few years. Occupancy rates will fall not only from business closures, the online shopping boom and working from home will become the new norm for a number of Victorians. The window is now and will be interested to see our plans, we either don't have any firm plans or we have them and just awaiting the right time to announce. To me I think we will be at the current ground with the building over the car park at AAMI park.

  31. Is this the guy we picked up with a 2nd rounder after trading two 2nd rounders to get that pick, and no one on the draft coverage had any idea who he was? Still know nothing about him.

  32. And in return we will ask for 58 first round draft picks and their best five players in a trade. Oliver's not going anywhere.

  34. Oliver has more grunt than R Flower and his awareness of where the ball is and where team mates are around him is superb Robbie had amazing skills, grace and balance throughout his entire 14 year career

  35. Pollyanna might have to note all the positive call outs made over many years on many players. Many suggested the Dees wanted Parish and so we called out for Oliver. We didn’t want the Toumpas ahead of Wines decision again.

  36. We've got to add at least one more small forward. All of the forward lines put up here, still look way out of balance. I'd like to see Melksham moved to another position (except when a HBF requires a tag) and replaced with a genuine small forward (Bedford or incoming player). Our forward strategy is to pin the opposition defence in for repeat entries, however, we don't have the right cattle to get that done. If we had two (or even three) Kozzys, I think it would unlock our whole game plan. We need players that understand the running patterns (mostly unrewarded) required. That's why I'm not so sure about dropping a mid in there. It can be done but it would require a pre-season of training and education.

  37. If you wish to keep politics off the forum then I suggest you simply note that a post you consider political is inappropriate. Presenting your own view as you did is simply doing more of what you complain of. Personally I have no problem with throw-away lines like in ItsTime's post that you complained about whether 'left' or 'right' - they'd be too hard for the mods to deal with anyway. Detailed arguments are another matter.

  38. The AFL has issued a new schedule of dates which I've posted in that thread. The answer to your 2nd question: Monday 30 November • List Lodgement 2 • Out of Contract Listed AFL Primary List Players Draft Nomination Form and Player Request for Removal from List Form Lodged with AFL • Final date for Primary List delistings

  39. Cats have beaten us and other clubs to an exciting young 202cm basketball talent Paul Tsapatolis. Fair month for the Cats, play in GF, get best forward in the competition and a couple of other players, sign the most chased young ruck prospect around and get a bucketload of extra cash from the State, to improve their massive home ground advantage stadium. It is easy to support some clubs.

  40. Move Harmes forward, he is not a defender. I can see a scenario of rotating Viney, Brayshaw, and Harmes through the middle and HFF regions. We really had something with Harmes in 2018, the way he's gone backwards is one of Goodwin's worst failings.

  41. I like him no star but he can give us some back up when times get tough. He deserves to be on the list and 1 more year won't hurt hard to see him get another year though.

  42. the list will turn over dramatically next year, further reductions, 3 impending retirements, 2 players coming OOC that we happily shopped around late this year and up to 4 players with a combined 4 games from the 2018 draft on the block too, throw in other NQR players on the list and i can see a couple big FA/trade moves on the cards for us. Alternatively we could do what we always do and sign half of them up for another season ;) i think he will move on after next season and we will draft another tall then. also if ur complaining about battlers wasting space i'd love to know how u saw hunts 2yr deal off the back of 6 games for the season? and what u expect him to deliver over those two years

  46. Wow. Another rich club gets another government handout when they already have a home base. Meanwhile we still don't have one. And why are they calling it the 'Daniel Andrews State Government '? It doesnt belong to that lunatic. Must have been part of the deal to get the funds.
