If Crameri joins the Demons then he won't be the only player with that surname to represent the club. Ben Crameri joined the club in 1954 and worked his way up from the Thirds to the Seconds where he was a member of their 1956 premiership team booting eight goals in the Grand Final. Crameri earned a debut in the Firsts in Round 2, 1957 against Collingwood but played only one more that year before returning to the Seconds where he finished runner up in the Seconds Best and Fairest and equal second in the Gardiner Medal, despite only playing nine Seconds games for the year. Crameri played only one game in 1958 after which he joined Moorabbin in the VFA. He later coached Northcote in that competition. When Stuart Crameri joined the Bombers I enquired as to whether there was a connection between the two but I never found out.

Saty, Can you not remember when you meticulously reported the training sessions every couple of days until you got sick of people questioning your commitment, motives, loyalties, etc until you basically stopped reporting? At the time I didn't blame you because I thought much of the commentary was puerile and simply dumb. It is a shame to see you become one of those taking cheap potshots at others who care sufficiently to post. Frankly, I preferred the old, less supercilious version. FWIW You will be judged by the company you keep. Find better role models e.g. Old Dee.

When fit, Crameri's a better player than Harmes and Bugg, who were regulars. He'd also have Kent and vandenBerg covered. Melksham and ANB's form was pretty solid. He'd probably compete with Hannan for a spot. I like Hannan, and am hopeful with a full pre-season he can be involved in games for longer. Hannan's also a heck of a lot quicker when it hits the deck. I see the forward line as something like: Petracca, McDonald, Melksham Garlett, Hogan, Hannan But you never have everyone available and form dips, so I'd be very happy to rookie Crameri.

Think I agree Saty and Tim Smith is really that position ( depth forward ) and bigger and younger. We can do better with our vacant spots on the list.

Gee you really got that wrong LDC. Unfair to Jack and a very inaccurate interpretation of what PJ meant. First of all, how is Jack a mercenary? He didn't leave for more money. You know why he left so why disparage the guy with a comment like that? Secondly, PJ was simply saying that Jack was a great guy, who was loved at Melbourne and who loved Melbourne. After his time at Port was up he believed that Jack would consider himself a Melbourne man and get involved with the club. PJ also said that he was going to catch up with Jack when he was back in Melb soon.

I used to give a sh!t about the ins and outs of every trade we were involved in but then you realise it doesn't matter. Don't sweat the small stuff. If that pick we have given up next year for Lever leads to being a good pick then that is 'big stuff' but it would mean something has gone horribly wrong...

Picks after the top 10 are overrated these days. Free agency has completely changed the landscape. We've got an outstanding young core of Hogan, Petracca, Weideman, Viney, Oliver, Hunt, ANB, Lever, Salem, Brayshaw & OMac, plus others who may still come on like Harmes, Stretch, Balic, Johnstone. We don't need heaps of draft picks in the next 2-3 years, we need free agents and ready to go players to fill needs. I've got a feeling the Watts movement is a part of that with someone like Gaff a FA at the end of the year. It's time we put all our eggs in the winning a flag basket.

Every footballer who plays a longish career these days should be a "millionaire" at the end of it. Provided they've made some good investments with their income and not wasted it. You're a millionaire these days if you own a reasonable house.

best kick for goal yes. Best field kick probably not. I'd say Salem, Hibberd are Lewis are all better and you could make a case for garlett too. So this is 160 odd players that I rate higher than Watts. There is probably a few debatable ones but there's a truckload more that you could make a case for to be ahead of him also. Either way you look at it, we certainly aren't giving away a player that is top 150. I think 175-200 is about right. We played him forward in the last quarter to try and win the game against the Pies in r23, while it's a tiny sample size, he was easily spoilt and bodied into the wrong position as a lead up forward. Goodwin went one unorthodox move too far and cost us a few chances at goal. He's far better as the ruckmen that drifts forward and takes a towering pack mark once (or one and half times) a game, if that's what you mean by seeing him in attack?

Can't remember seeing much of Hardeman but know he was good but I think Ingerson should be considered as well at half back. Short time with us but I don't remember him being beaten by any forward, the consummate spoiler.

To be an effective AFL player you need to reach a good standard for both. Throw in pure physical fitness as a third category. Hell, you could even divide that the same way, into stamina/durability versus athletic ability. If you were trying to build a metric for 'player value' based on skill v toughness, you wouldn't just add them and compare, you would multiply the two together to get your result. (Caveat - I fully understand that trying to put standardised metrics on this stuff is absurd, I am just using it to illustrate the relationship) For example; Fred Keiserkopf is highly skilled (8/10) but a bit of a damp newspaper (2/10), 8x2 = 16. Geoff McAverageish is just ok at everything, with 5/5 for both, 5x5 = 25. So you put McAverageish on the field because his effectiveness overall is a half-again Keiserkopf. But you might still draft Keiserkopf in the hope that you can push that toughness up a bit, because even 3x8 puts him at around the same value. Of course, the most recent big example of a coach trying to recruit and organise their team in separate 'streams' of toughness and skill is Terry Wallace at Richmond. That produced a string of highly skilled and quick draft picks who were never forced to develop their toughness and thus never made it as effective AFL players, and a progression of tough-nut players who could win the ball but frankly there wasn't much point them having it. I think Goodwin &co have learnt the first part of that lesson, but I still have doubts about the second part.

With our experience I'll happily take Norf at Blundstone in Hobart again With Plappy's experience at Casey Fields at least we'll have a coach with into and against the wind knowledge unlike this year !

My top request is: A bye the week after Rd 12 QB Monday v Pies and then a trip to either GC or Brisbane so that we can have a mid-season training camp in a warmer climate leading into that game - similar to the camp the Cats had this year. And if that doesn't come up, have the camp in Darwin leading into our fixture there - and please Dees spend the money on having virtually the whole list up there and work their butt off - local footy clinics with most players involved as well.
