Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Maynard must get at least four weeks

leave it to deever

Shocked by the decision, I expected him to get 3 weeks then Pies to appeal and him to get off.

AFL should appeal if they are serious, but probably wont because they aren't.

What is complete baloney is the following :

"As for a bump, the panel found that Maynard did not attempt to bump Brayshaw.

“In order for it to be concluded that he engaged in the act of bumping,” Gleeson said.

“It would be necessary to find that he formed that intention when in midair at approximately at the apex of his leap."

He formed the intention to bump immediately when he ran at him and before the jump....

But they persist on interpreting his actions as that of an angel...maybe we should que up for the holy blessing?? GAGF Gleeson

Sniping lives on and Lloyd and Cornes are its protectors. Great for football, not.

Mentioning that Maynard may miss important games, irrelevant and disgraceful, no mention of the fact that Gus is going to miss important games . The fix was in

Listening to Buckley and Brown talk about this and making excuses for Maynard on 'On The Couch' last night made me just question their intellect (as if I hadn't already).  I generally like them as commentators and think they offer a more reasoned balanced and insightful viewpoint than a lot, but last night they lost me.

In particular, Buckley described the contact to Maynard as "incidental" .  If blokes getting knocked out is incidental, I don't know where we go to from here.  I suspect it was a mistaken word selection and he meant accidental, but that's an aside.

The point well made by host Garry Lyon is that we've accepted there is a responsibility of the player to have a duty of care during the football actions of tackling and bumping, then why not the same for smothering?  But Buckley and Brown seemed to take the dumb stance that this was an unavoidable 'football incident' inherent to the game, which I think is wrong.

Agree, In the States if targeting is questioned or observed by a referee during play he views footage immediately and has sole discretion to ban the player from the game there and then. There is no recourse to the decision either then or after the game has finished.

The Collingwood chant while Gus was on The ground. Us having to remove photos of Gus back at training because of abuse from Collingwood supporters. This needs to drive us. This season isn’t dead yet , and I don’t think you can find any better motivation than we have with this to meet them again in 3 weeks.

More than anything I've seen for years, this whole episode seriously brings almost every part of the AFL profession into DISREPUTE!

Well done AFL for failing to move towards societies desire to make our sport less barbaric while maintaining as much of its wonderful essence as possible.

Well done AFL for giving soccer valid reasons to make further inroads into our unique Australian sport.

This damages Aussie rules footy, a great part of our countries culture.

It's sickening and should be remedied.

This is the lamest piece of rubbish ever. Brayshaw's right foot touches the ground after he has kicked the ball with it, and his left foot is still up in the air when Maynard hits him. How can it be said that Brayshaw deviated to the right? Or moved any distance at all in any direction after the kick? And why is the Collingwood lawyer allowed to introduce statements like this without any relevant expertise or any justification for this "evidence"? This [censored] would get chucked out of a kangaroo court ...

The kangaroo court would also have chucked out the hypocrisy of Maynard having the time to react to Brayshaw "veering" into his path by noticing it, comprehending the outcome enough to react with the thought procedd of thinking "[censored] he's there"; while also arguing there's not reaction time to brace for contact!!!!

The act of jumping and bracing was a predetermined singular action; this is actually supported by the biomechanic person - as he stated there was no time to adjust once launched.

Also if there was a report why wasn't the umpire there providing his view (something I thought they had to do) and if this was a test case then surely the AFL (tribunsl) would require evidence from Brayshaw so as to understand all aspects in making an informed decision.

I know our cheer squad comes up with ingenious ways of putting off opposition players kicking at goal. Maybe they can all bring frisbees and wave them around next time we play Collingwood.

Great idea..even better if we supply @WalkingCivilWar with Ninja stars to chuck at them.

Anyone know if the umpires have been hung dried and quartered for allowing play to go on whilst a player was unconscious on the ground?

Lucky Fritta kicked the goal but what if he shanked it like his last shot on goal the ball was ‘live’?

The AFL is inept in all areas.

When we come to consider the rough conduct (high bumps) provision, it was fairly and appropriately acknowledged by Woods (AFL) that, in order for us to find that this was a bump, there needed to be a voluntary bump, not a bumping into someone, but a bumping of an opponent.

Gleeson!!! Gleeson's instructions to his tribunal members to assess whether it was a “voluntary” bump!!!
Wtf. That’s false.

Why ask to confirm a voluntary bump!!!! It’s careless.  There was a duty of care not to make forceful contact.  What in the hell happened to “careless” !!!

Just watched tonight’s 360 (on delay obvs). Did I miss something with Howe? Sure he defended his teammate (against what most of us feel is indefensible, I get it) and said he felt bad for what he’s been dealing with (which I think any of our team would do for a teammate in similar circumstances), but I also saw him more than almost anyone who’s fronted up to the media about it stating over and over his concern was for Gus and what he’s going through. I thought that was genuine.

Incidentally I also noticed he posted a pretty heartfelt message to Melk when he did his knee.

I hate what’s happened this week and I feel sick for Gus and the team. The tribunal result is not only unfair but defies all logic, but I dunno about the pile on on literally anyone who’s not in the red and blue and doesn’t unequivocally say Maynard should be taken out and shot.

(6pm here in Germany, no I’m not thinking about this at 2am. Though I have).

Someone earlier asked about the meaning of "running dead'. Same face comes to mind when I hear that expression.

Nothing surprises me abut this corrupt organisation.

The victim blaming here is what makes me the most angry.

If there is any justice in this world, the same thing happens in reverse and the tribunal finds the Collingwood player should have grown wings and flown away to protect themselves. Will go down like a cup of warm [censored] no doubt.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
