Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Do you have any contacts within the Brayshaw family WCW? How's the guy and the family doing?

Sorry to butt in here but I know someone close to the family and I was told today this may be career ending for Gus. There is apparently some clause in his contract re head knocks. I don’t know much more but this is from a reliable source who is very close to the family.

I’ve heard similar (potentially career-ending), Jane. Except I didn’t know the reasoning behind it.

That dirty thug needs to pay for so much more than first thought.

Any chance next week's banner has a dedicated message for Gus?

Gee this must be raw for Danielle and Anita - just horrible.

But it’s ok because Maynard is his mate 🙄🤮😡

All these heroes on this site and in the media declaring this a footy action.
Well this unnecessary brutal action may have just cost a player in his prime his career.

A player whose brother got king hit and had his jaw broken in an AFL game. A player whose fiancé buried her father as a result of head injuries. A player who has never once pulled out of a contest, knowing full well it could be his last. A player who was wide open, kicking a football, and had no right to be hit by a thug going for maximum impact in an attempt to “spoil”.

I wished Maynard ill last night. I now wish that he misses finals and sits in the guilt of what he’s done. I hope that guilt and missing finals eats him alive and ruins his career.

on the back about Maynard being a dog and we’ll never forget. Picture of his face superimposed on a dogs body. No wait, dogs are cool. Something scummy.

Will never happen. Don’t get me wrong… I’d be all for it - maybe not to the extreme of your idea 😁 - but one of the rules set by the AFL that applies to all cheer squads is no jibes at individual players.

I support your position

I just don't think a Tribunal will, I think they'll question "Careless" and treat as reasonable football act, then aplit second to brace for impact

Agree re the Tribunal looking at the careless grading. My view is that if the Tribunal is satisfied that Maynard jumped across rather than directly into Brayshaw's path to spoil then they may deem his action reasonable but if they determine that he jumped directly into Brayshaw's path making front on contact inevitable then it will be a 3 - 4 week suspension. I think the path he jumped will be most relevant to the tribunal as it will establish whether the collision is rough conduct or not.

On an aside I hope Gus recovers fully and also is able to keep playing footy. He's one of my favourite players and the heart and soul of our team.

That would be nice, wouldn’t it. But it’s not something that’s normally done.

I called it a footy action gone wrong. Doesn't mean I think he shouldn't be responsible for his actions. I also never said he should get off scott free.

While we're at it (and this isn't directed at you)  I understand people feel for Gus and the family but can people pick their words a bit more carefully when referring to his condition and what he might be suffering from? Someone said that Gus suffers from anxiety as a result of his concussions. You do not need to get a concussion to suffer from severe anxiety, let me assure you of that. Please don't pretend that this is some condition that only occurs in freak accidents because it's insulting to people who live with it daily.

As though he should have been allowed to 'clear his name' just after the game, claiming Brayshaw was his mate....

Gus is his mate. They played sandy dragons together. Langers too. He will be feeling for Gus

But in 50 years of watching football I've never seen such a smother attempt.

As Jack Elliot would  say

"Pigs  a___se" it's a smother

The fact of the matter is his initial jump to smother is absolutely not a footy act… who jumps into someone to smother? He would have had lot better chance touching the ball if he planted and jumped up, rather than toward Gus.

He then decided to chose the worst of three options he had whilst in the air. Creating maximum force to the worst place to hit someone.

this needs to be a minimum of 4 weeks. He absolutely meant to make contact with Gus. It was his choice to run and jump directly into him, brace and collect him front on in the head.

Letting him off would set a VERY ugly precedent allowing players to launch at anyone with the ball front on and do whatever they want “because they are in the air” with zero ramifications.

Garry Lyon had an interesting take …. Said that an action such as this could set a precedent where anyone can essentially jump into any player and hit them high, citing a footy action, and they have no control over their actions.

hadnt though that far,but it’s potentially true.

Also, for f sake, he had no forward momentum: he had jumped to smother, then, after the ball had passed him, he thrust his shoulder forward straight into Brayshaw's head. All the thug had to do was land, it's not as though Brayshaw was going to take him out - Brayshaw was playing football, Maynard was playing the man.

Spot on. 100%

Firstly I wasn’t referring to you. It may have started as a footy action but it resulted in a horrible injury, which as you say should carry consequences.

Secondly I haven’t seen anyone suggests what Gus suffers from. All I’ve ever said is that Gus’ fiancé buried her dad due to head injuries and her mother is suing the AFL. Both of which are on record.

And you are right, anxiety and depression and a whole host of other mental health issues are more often than not totally unrelated to head trauma, and many people live with those awful conditions but have never copped so much as a ball to the head in a game of backyard cricket. But it has been proven that repeated head trauma can lead to both of those things sadly. Shane Tuck and Spud Frawley are the saddest examples of this.

But you just feel that way because you haven't played enough contact sport, remember! 😂

Not saying that tonight are they! Bunch of wannabes looking for any excuse to tell us they once played football.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
