Let's say by some miracle that it's not an ACL...I'm wondering what injuries are mistaken for ACLs, and if any of them have him in frame to return in time? I know it's wishful thinking but just trying to get an idea if he has any chance of being okay.

Nick Reiwaldt had a knee injury that looked really bad but ended up being bone bruising and I think he only missed one week.

My understanding is the tests that the club doc does at the time almost always confirm if it's an ACL. Scans determine the extent.

@Webber will be better placed to expand on this

Yep. Posted the following on post-game, and sadly, it’s the reason we should expect the worst-

I’ve just learned that Goody said it’s looking like an ACL. This would mean Jake had a positive Lachman’s test, which is close to definitive in the rooms if the knee lets you apply the test effectively (able to relax, not too much swelling yet, or unconscious muscle ‘guarding’). MRI to seal the deal.

CANNOT believe this has happened to Melksy. My heart breaks for him. Again he’ll miss out.  💔 😢 👎🏽

Were you holding the Gussy head today WCW? you were all over the channel 7 coverage.

No that was Sophie, one of our three esteemed leaders. My biceps wish it was me holding up giant Gussy, they’re cursing me for being on a flogger and they’re sure to let me know about it tomorrow morning. 😑

Saw the boys at the airport. I asked Clarrie about Jake. He said it’s terrible that Jake went down and that it doesn’t look good.

Then I saw Jake on crutches, he looked absolutely devastated. Such a sad sight. 😢

Also, I don’t know anything more about Fritta since his mum said she has yet to speak with him (she cancelled coming to Sydney because she broke her leg on Friday). But… I saw him at the airport, he was walking up ahead with Richo, laughing and very buoyant, so I’m guessing there’s nothing to worry about.

For any lip readers out there -

With 1:24 mins left on the clock, the coverage captures the bench. It's at this point where Melk looks to be telling the boys (Max, Fritta & Claz) that he's done his knee...

Just absolutely gutted for the man.

I’ve rewatched that interaction a few times now and am pretty sure he said, “I need to pee.”

I know his Dad and step mum, was going to retire regardless has had enough. Devastating to go out this way, was in good form

Dave (his old man) is one of the great people you could meet. Know his brother Darcy well also who's at Wang Maggie's.

Hopefully Jake comes and coach Corowa Rutherglen...

If ACL is confirmed and Jake can't play finals is there anything to stop him from being a runner. Imagine him running out and delivering messages to the players, he wiuld be inspirational.

Huh ? Isn't there a minimum of 6-8 weeks of no weight bearing. He will surely not be running around the MCG lol

Genuinely become one of my favourite players and one of our most important if we’re to have a real shot this year. No one deserves to play finals more than him this year, no one! He has been the difference so many times now and this will be so sad if it’s serious, for so many reasons, but mostly for him to miss playing finals which he was instrumental in getting us into.

I know a team is more than one player, but we will struggle without the Milkshake.

It has really been a twist in my gut ever since watching Melksham having to hobble his way across the field while play continued right around him despite three stoppages in that time. The sheer loneliness of it was horrible.

I've been thinking about it and reached the conclusion that Jake Melksham's career would actually be a really interesting documentary. He's been intimately involved in two of the most dramatic stories of the least decade of football - the Essendon horror show and the Demon's return to power, full of characters who can be interviewed while Melksham's honest and direct style would provide a really good central thread.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
