Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Brisbane Pair Stand Down Amid Poor Form

I know many posters can't stand David King, but the footage he and his team provided on AFL360 last night was damning for Daniel Rich from a defensive stand point.

Can barely get out of a jog when the Lions don't have the ball.

Gunstan's form has been extremely underwhelming for a bloke of his ilk.

I don't like much of King's analysis (as i think i might have noted previously - i'll have to check), but he mixes some average analysis with some really good stuff.

In particular his use of video is terrific, as per the Rich example. I think that plays to his strengths, which  is knowing footy from a playing and/or coaching perspective and being able to articulate key issues (as opposed to analysis using data as a foundation).

That's his strength - and he has shown lots of genuinely really interesting footage and he uses it really well to make a point - often about set us, structures or pointedly individual player weaknesses or issues.

I love the down the ground footage, and how he uses it, and would love if that is what he focused on.

Genuine question: Has David King ever coached?

Fascinating and indicative of how things are changing in professional sports.

Was watching On the Couch and they were discussing coaches taking a 3-4 week break mid season just to relieve pressure.

Longer seasons bring with it more issues.

A small matter is the MFC bye. Physically it's a good rest but mentally it's not even a 7 day break.

Hi DJ. I was surprised to read this. I've always considered an AFL season to be pretty short. Same with NFL. In Europe, football coaches / managers oversee 10 month long seasons and they might get 4 weeks off between them. They are almost always just a few bad games away from being sacked. Man City just finished a season in which they played 60 games over 4 different competitions that included a lot of travelling to the continent in the Champions League and games every 3-4 days over those 10 months.

I'll just get some Red, a cheese platter and watch  whatever unfolds.

No idea what's playing out here.

Something's bound to fall through a crack and roll out into view.

A bit odd 🤷

Didn't Adem Yze 'drop' himself at one stage?

Yes he did. After 226 consecutive games. The media created a narrative around him ‘counting his games’ and it being a distraction. Dumb all around

Gunston 32 years old and Rich 33 years old. I say more of a case these guys reaching their use by date with age related form and injuries. Still an odd thing to do. I’d say it’s by arrangement with the coaches and selectors to avoid the indignity of once great players being dropped for the majority or entirety of the remaining season.

Did Jack Watts drop himself - and get lambasted? Or do I recall that incorrectly?

yep he was playing poorly but not getting dropped so he put his hand up to get some form back.

I'm willing to bet the house he is not the one selecting which footage to talk about.

Regarding David King, I am disturbed by his limited vocabulary. It is disheartening to see him repeatedly employ phrases like "bashed em up" without any regard for the gravity of such acts. This constant repetition not only demonstrates laziness on his part but also shows a lack of empathy for families who have tragically lost loved ones due to senseless violence.

This neanderthal-like behaviour with him seemingly reviling in the act of describing someone being brutally assaulted is a sad indictment on him.

Rich and Gunston are listed as 'Managed' tonight with the release of the teams. FFS if they have dropped themselves, they're omitted. Is this to make them feel better about it or is it as Buck suggests above - a six week 'management' program?

My guess is it's to do with match payments.

While contracts will vary, players that are omitted are unlikely to get match payments, while in many cases players who are injured (and therefore unable to play) can continue to receive match payments.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
