Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Toomorrow  Mr Grundy (Reg to his friends) will have to make a statement justifying his selection by the DEES pivotal gamein my opinion. I'm hoping he takes control

Grundy basically sat out all of last year, his pre season running showed he is miles of his team mates in terms of fitness. If he can stay healthy and build his fitness through the year I'll have expectations of him. For now, just compete and don't get injured!

This is a must win .

I feel a statement performance coming on.

Two teams I really want to beat this year are Swans and Collingwood .

We owe them both and we owe it to ourselves

Im not too worried about Brisbane or Geelong , I reckon we will account for those teams at the pointy end, but I don’t want to hear that Collingwood chant on Kings birthday.

can someone who knows footy better than me explain why we’d ask a first gamer in JVR to play ruck and not Brown? just structural so brown is the focal point always?

but harsh on a 193cm kid?

Considering BB’s knee issues..I’d absolutely hate to see him taking 2nd ruck ..same for TMac with his foot issues. JVR is young & healthy..has played ruck at VFL level and is a far better option

Really amazing news about Gawn too. If you listened to the Selwyn podcast he said the next 1-2 weeks is sort of crucial to tick off some markers to be able to run and train again. That he’s doing that a week post injury is awesome.

It's pretty amazing isn't it? Selwyn said we had an "aggressive approach to rehabilitation" and I guess that's what we're seeing?

Ok I've been thinking about the changes this week and what that means for our composition and structure.

We are 3 talls out (Gawn, Tomlinson, McDonald) for 2 talls in (JVR, May).

Positionally, we effectively have 3 tall forward, 3 tall back and 1 ruck.

Sydney have also named: 3 tall forwards (Franklin, McDonald, Amartey), 3 tall defenders (Blakey, McCartin, McCartin) and 1 ruck (Ladhams).

Sydney have played a fast moving game, using lots of run.

I can't help but feel we have deliberately tried to match that and make sure we aren't too tall, and slow around the ground.

I want them to start the chant, all of them, and then watch as we kick 9 goals in 6 minutes to win by 20. Van Rooyen kicking the goal that puts us in front after riding Moore outside 50 and then calmly slotting it from 60.

Sadly, alas, wont happen VDR likely to get clobbered early on same as Turner against the Pies last year. We're not like other clubs. Too nice and civil. Hibberd should play if for no other reason.

And picking a short forward setup seems to trigger our midfield to bomb it high and long into the forward line.

The mobility of the smalls in the forward line - and yes, we have plenty for the Swans game - could be very effective if they realised that will take very little part in the marking contests (but perhaps and only if the ball is consistently brought to ground) and in reality, that should in itself be a cue for the swarming and balanced ants to stream to the 50m line and beyond to spaces or leading to spaces for the rejuvenated ( ? ) game plan of the midfielders to hit any of multiple targets streaming towards them. Gus, Clarrie, Tracca and JJ all have the skills to do this as a strong aspect of the forward team retention of the ball. Ya carnt kick 'em goals if yas don't have the ball!  FFS. Footiskry do it with 7m kicks, almost always paid as a mark by the snot goblins. So, let's win and keep the ball rather than have 'hopeful' retention from one possible target with fluttering wings up deep forward.

TMac gives us fair bit of postional flexibility given he can go back or forward.

I would prefer a fit, in-form player as my sub. This would then count out both Tmac and Melky. By all logic, I cannot see why Tomlinson isn’t the sub for this game.

Either Melk or McDonald are subs.

How uninspiring.

Perhaps. But gives players like Laurie a full game of footy to stake their case, develop etc. rather than warming the bench for 3+ quarters.

One thing to learn from Mcfly & his Pies is get players to play as a team but also get players to play to their strengths.

BBB is playing more like he used to pre Demons and is getting way better results, rather than as a pack breaker. The odd forward pocket ruck involvement is okay, but I would still rather see him near the goal square than any rucking.

JVR has been playing back up ruck in VFL so let him do it!

Great to see Hibberd back he should go straight to Papley.

Demons should be going out to give a message, not at full strength obviously with Maxy, Kossie and Salem out, but Viney & Fritter both better for the run!

Tackling, desperation, pressure required all day if we want to turn the tide against the Swans!!

Go Demons!

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
