We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Adelaide trade pick 10 , Riley Tilthorpe , McAdam to Melbourne for  Petty , pick 11 and a future first rounder. We still do have enough currency to get the number one pick.

Overs - not sure why people are keen to give Petty away so cheaply. Even if Petty was up for trade, McAdam shouldn’t even come into the equation.

Petty = Mihocek
JVR < McStay (youth)
Fullarton/J Smith < Cox

ANB > Ginnivan but only equal to in form Lipinski
Fritsch = Elliot (could be better if he defended)
Pickett > Hill (but has to back it up)
Chandler/Spargo << McCreery

McAdam < Schultz

Are J. Smith and the fossils as useful depth as Ash Johnson and Frampton - probably not.

Does either side have great youth coming through, Jefferson and Reef McInnes both have talent but otherwise not really.

They’ve got the advantage for experience and depth of useful talls for now. But with time that can change.

In theory Petracca can go forward more easily than De Goey as we have a more explosive midfield mix.

Mc Creery is that far ahead of Spargo and Chandler, guy is a GUN!

Agree with Oliver & Petty..  I’d like the club to comment on the whole Grundy disaster in particular Goodwin 360 in him & what went wrong …will be egg on his face if Grundy succeeds at the Swans even more so if they happen to win a flag!

Egg on his face?! What has Grundy’s future with another club got to do with Goody? Since when is the level of success a player attains at his new club a reflection on his former coach?!

Also, you’d like the Club to comment on the “whole Grundy disaster”??? Why??? Exactly what would that achieve?

Goodwin 360 in him” what does this even mean??! Did you mean Goodwin 86-ing him? Or Goodwin 360-ing him, which doesn’t make sense coz how does one 360 someone? Genuine question.

Huh!  What Grundy disaster?   Came for Pick 27 and on a cut-rate salary.  Left for a future similar pick and pick 47 (which we may not use).  Filled in admirably when Gawn was out for 5(?) matches.  We won when he played.  He should have played in the finals to pressure the oppo defense by just standing there.  Everyone else wanted to be on the lead or jumping speculatively over a pack.

we did use it; on fullarton

we traded a second rounder in 2022 for a second rounder in 2024

it was an experiment; it failed

Obviously trade period still has some time to go but I'm not sure we're going to see improvement next year as far as ladder position or finals run goes if Fullerton and McAdam are our only trades and 6 and 11 our two picks for the draft.

We're not going to get further improvement out of our core as they're in the prime as is. Gawn and May are past their prime so it's more likely that they'll decline.

Of course we'll see some natural improvement from our younger brigade but none of them are prime movers. Rivers and McVee had great years but are don't and won't impact games like Trac and Oliver. And teams around us like Carlton and Sydney have a greater abundance of young prime movers who will naturally improve which will see those sides become even stronger. I think JVR plays a supporting role and I don't think he's ever going to tear games apart. He's an undersized key forward.

Oliver is no guarantee to even play at this stage and I thinks it's naive to suggest we'll be going through a season without any injuries to key players. It happens to every side every year.

So there's some natural concern here for not changing things up enough if this is how we're looking for next year, atm we're looking very same same.

My hope is we can move up the draft and nab one of Reid, McKertcher, Sanders or Duursma. I think those three players will impact in their first year but also create hype and excitement.

Still time, fingers crossed we make some changes.

Spargo produced a much game in the 23 finals than McCreery did or could. Not sure what Spargo was doing for the rest of the year but his spark was back and looks set for a good 24.

I think there is plenty of natural improvement in the team structurally. Our forward line set up and delivery was terrible, and personnel is improved with health. McVee and Rivers will hopefully be given the reigns of movement away from ‘wait and see’ May and Salem.

I can see where you’re coming from but I can also see where we can get better with better coaching and a more adept gameplan that doesn’t make the ground so small as @old55 put so well a few weeks back.

Had anyone considered that Melbourne's fair and reasonable approach to trading; has mades us a target for raiding players!!!

No. Melb has only traded players who they don't mind moving on. They have not lost anyone significant who they preferred to keep. Maybe Jackson. I believe the medium/long term strategy here is for the club to free up cap space in order to target the likes of Sean Darcy, Todd Marshall, JUH and maybe Ben King in 2024.

Ironically, and contrary to your malevolent use of exclamation marks, we behave like this so that player managers are fully aware that we will act in good faith with their clients. That has helped us keep and attract players.

Saints offered Paddy Dow a 3 year contract, but won't give Carlton pick 56 for him.

Wow!

Oh, I just remembered, SOS is the Saint's list manager and we know his feelings about Carlton.

A bit like the Hawks - they want a second-round pick for Koschitske yet only offer a third for Chol (along with a 4 year deal).

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
