Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

He won't do much.  He's depth.

Wasn't he a top ten draft pick? I doubt if Melbourne signed him up just for depth and win VFL games like Daw and Mitch Brown did for a number of years. Theyre hoping he can show what he's really got.

Going to be an interesting season season for us.

He was pick 2 but big forwards take time to mature his years at Brisbane was like Watts at Melbourne thrown in before he was ready.

At the Bulldogs his position was never secure and thrown around in various positions forward and back to fill holes.

IIRC, when Weid (who was contacted at the time) sought to be traded out for more opportunities, we agreed to let him go, subject to getting a ‘like for like’ replacement.  We recruited Schache as that replacement, and imo he adds more to our squad, and has more ‘senior level upside’, than Weid.  Only time will tell, I guess.

Pretty much it yeah, if Schache exceeds Weid's output then the job is done.

Never noticed before - he's got a strange set shot kicking action.  Really stools down a bit before the ball drop.  Not a criticism as he seems to slot it through the middle well enough, so whatever works for him.  Just looks a bit weird.

Has been the same action his whole career and even in his 18’s draft year he was exactly the same.  Has always been an extremely accurate kick,

Give him a chance, he is more than mere depth ... and now he is in the player development university wearing the red 'n blue and, from all reports, is keen to improve to land a regular slot in the team ... and won't that illuminate his existing critics where the sun don't shine?

Yep, but two clubs have already let him go.  That's a bit of red flag for me.

Players failing at two clubs but succeeding at a third doesn't happen very often at all. You found one, so the signs for Schache still aren't good.

Fingers crossed for Josh Schache. We definitely would like to see him succeed at the Demons.🤞

As others have mentioned, it is primarily psychological for him.

Josh Schache needs to be totally committed to making an impact and show aggression when playing.

Josh certainly has the ability to make it. He just needs to put things into action.

Anyway, I guess time will tell if Josh can break into the senior side and contribute or not.

He is so similar to Weid it's a bit scary really. Ironical that he was in effect his replacement on our list.

Has all the skills to be a very good AFL footballer but for whatever reason can't seem to impose himself within games consistently and compete physically when needed.

Whether either of them will ever truly make the grade is anyone's guess but we all hope Josh can now he has landed at the Dees.

Personally, I am not a fan of forwards that cannot pressure opposition backs when they don't have the ball - this area is not a strength of Josh but it needs to be if he is to get senior games IMO

If we are being honest he is like Weid but with a bit more versatility and adaptability. Can play fwd or back He can actually take a one grab mark which was Weid's downfall IMO so all in all its a slight upgrade

If he's "like" Watts then he doesn't have the necessary mongrel to succeed at AFL level.

So no mongrel, then.

I hope this guy succeeds (as we all did for Watts & Weid) but the historical signs aren't good.

I don't think that any of our key forwards or resting ruckmen are good at applying pressure when they haven't got the ball. The issue with Weid and Schache is their 2nd efforts when they don't mark the ball. They need to stay engaged in the contest.

If our gameplan incudes bombing into the forward line with our key forwards/resting ruckmen instructed to bring the ball to ground, then Schache will struggle. If our bigs can get separation, Schache can be useful as a key forward or a depth 2nd ruckman.

Surely no one has Schache as an expected star.

1. He adds 200cm mature body depth to cover in case of injuries, and helps drive training standards because he is keen to impress the coaches.

2. With some strong form, he'll play 7-12 games and be a part of a deep, strong squad.

3. And there is a very very small chance that somehow it finally clicks and all his potential is realised.

We expect 1. If we get him to 2 we will consider it a massive win.

He's depth. Just as Weideman had become depth. When Sam indicated to the club he wanted to move, we moved quickly for Schache. This is on the public record.

One thing in Josh’s favour is that he is 200cm and can provide relief forward, back and ruck. Good luck Josh continue to build your tank, strength and physicality you could be the Ace up our sleeve at the pointy end of the season.!!!!

Providing relief forward is indeed important @DeeZee

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
