He’s a gun. An elite player. One of the Dees greats.
He kicked the most sensational goal in the ‘21 Grand Final.

But …

he sometimes gets the yips and misses the easy ones.

I recall he recently said he was working on it but as yet, not quite finding the solutions.

Regressing to his bad habits at kicking ala 2018.

Bit concerning to be honest.Even Oliver seems to be a better kick than him.

One of the best players the Dees have ever produced. But we can't put him into the Dusty category because his goal kicking is 2nd rate. When he kicks them they are usually blinders, but running through 50 shooting at goal he is simply a poor shot at goal, and his set shots are average at best.

This season has been his worst goal kicking accuracy in his career. Last year he kicked 29.19. This year he’s kicked 9.17 and multiple out on the full. In play he’s going ok, but his set shots have been poor. Clear area of improvement for him so he can continue to impact games and stamp himself as one of the best players in the game.

Reckon he's been playing injured/sore since early in the year.

Not sure at this stage this is a huge enough issue to be starting threads about. But it was a bit of a vanilla game again this week, so probs fair enough.

I was watching him before the game and he had at least a dozen shots from 25m out 45 degree angle and missed them all by a mile. No surprise he shanked em in the game

His ‘routine’ is obviously not working. He’s an instinct player, he should just go back and line up without even thinking about it.

Alas, he wasn't the only culprit tonight.  Brown, McDonald & Fritta all missed easy set shots early in the game.

It’s a definite worry.  His goal kicking seems to have gone backwards from last season.

Im sure he is working on it and it will come together at some stage.

His influence isn't there as it was last year.

He's doing a lot of goal kicking practice with Yze so it's not like he's not actually doing nothing about it.

Coming up to a few hard games coming up so I'd like to see him at least hit a bit of form soon.

Few things.

He's never been a great kick for goal unless outside 50 where he's still not great but he's better.

He gets in his head when he starts missing.

He kicks the ball way too hard. In play and during set shots. Which is why he is so inconsistent.

His technique is poor. He needs a bit more momentum in his run up to correct his bad habits.

even his snap was shocking, which should at least get a score. Something to work on with choco .

He is shanking a hook as that's where his boot appears to be going as he connects ....swinging right to left.  Appears to be leaning back on the final step before contact instead of running / kicking right through at the target??

However, let's not forget he was easily the MVP of the finals series IMV.  Tracc is a champ and will be well aware of this issue and he'll be putting work into it for sure from here i reckon.  Probably with a little help from Choco!

Yes Jimmy!

Been saying this for some time now. He’s at his best on instinct. Way too much time for him to get in his head. He’s kicking from O50 was pretty good last year, but he’s not getting near it atm, as you said. Inside 30-40m, could go anywhere.

But in saying that, all it will take is for him to nail a couple & he’ll be on again. That’s what champs do.

For someone of his talent, he’s always been a very poor snap of the ball.

I think the side did better last year kicking for goal as they instinctively looked for someone in a better position. They shared it around more and seemed to know it would be delivered.

At the game tonight there was a fair bit of blazing away.

Just hope we can tighten up on the unselfish acts in front of the sticks.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
