Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Also worth noting that our recruiting team was originally planning to select Georgiades with pick 32 before he was snapped up earlier than expected by Port.

Safe to say our recruiters have an eye for finding 'it', that's for sure.

Credit to the development coaches and their team as well as recruiters.

A small technicality - this is the 2019 draft

I know that it's the off-season and the Herald Sun is scrounging around for AFL stories. I also appreciate that it's November, so the Herald Sun is desperately trying to find stories with a link to the up-coming draft. But re-ordering a draft held less than 2 years ago is fatuous.

At least, that's what I would have written in any other year to justify why no Melbourne players made the top 10 or moved upwards in their personal ranking.

(Let's be honest, it's a meaningless exercise given the brief opportunity these players have had to show their talents.)

Let's go back a few years there is no doubting who is the best player in the 2014 and 2015 drafts. We had early picks but Petracca and Oliver thank you very much.

We also selected Mitch Hannan and Bayley Fritch in subsequent drafts with with much later picks and they both lit up the finals.

Our recruiting is almost exact in an inexact science.

Given this was actually the 2019 draft.

...in the 2020 draft Bowey would probably be re ranked in the top 5 and could be argued the new number 1 after his 7 games.

they rated Bowey #4  (2020) and Clarrie #1 (2015) and Tracc #1 (2014)

In the same article Bayley Fritsch was re-ranked as No.3 in his draft year ... originally 31

Spargo in the same draft was originally picked at 29 but given the attrition rate of those picked above him,  he might sit just outside the top 10 (or better) in a re-ranked scenario

Right now probably so (with the small sample size) but he looks the goods already ... most impressive aspect is his exquisite kicking to position

Remarkable for a 7 game player ... and he plays tall as well.  Big future by the looks of it

Going to suggest Fake Footy do a 2021 re-draft before the actual draft takes place.

How you can meaningfully re-rank a draft after 12 months, as Fox Footy have done, is beyond me.

All backing up that Taylor has gone past all (including Wells & Clayton*) as the best talent identifier in the business

He's on a hot streak and who is to say he can't keep going?  Recruiting with a real purpose

At some stage we could be in the unique position of being talent overloaded ... and that's the position a club needs to be in

We're not there yet but could be in the foreseeable future

*Scott Clayton for his past record going back a bit

Really does it matter what the time frame is? It's always as at the time the list is redrafted no matter the date.

Yes Dogga is 1 Kossie 3 and Riv 7 now and thoroughly deserving.

Ill be surprised if our 3 are not always in the top10 or very near especially if they keep racking up "premiership player" in the next half decade.

Congrats to JT Tim Lamb and the team as usual their judgement is spot on.

Taylor seems to genuinely love the game.

He's just signed a long term renewal of his contact which means we will have him for a few flags yet.

Its ironic that he is really good friends with Bevridge, but he suggested he go elsewhere, Collingwood first and then he came to us. He has been able to pick out players in a number of positions, not just midfielders but talls and defenders and there's no reason we can't get 4 in a row with him doing the recruiting.

Yes Taylor has the midas touch ... Stephen Wells did go off the boil eventually but that might have had a bit to do with the policy on the age demographics of their recruits

And wasn't he shuffled elsewhere within the club into a similar area?

For whatever reason the Cats didn't miss a beat for a good period (with draftees) and then decided to change tack and top up with oldies (whilst the game had become faster with younger legs needed to do the 2-way running)

Simon Dalrymple at the Dogs and then Sydney might be the only one I rate above Taylor purely for having the same level of huge success with early picks (Bont, Stringer, Macrae, Naughton) and then some more late round gems.

Taylor’s been freakish in the first and second round but surprisingly colder with late round picks.

The other clubs who have done really good jobs lately are Port, Brisbane and also GWS since Sos left.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
