Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Maybe the club instigated that process perhaps?  Lets face it, he hasn't set the world on fire over the past couple of seasons.  If it means giving young Bailey Laurie a chance to prove himself, I'm all for it.

The only thing missing in his game these days is speed. He looks like he's running up and down on the spot when chasing but his skill and reading the play is as strong as ever. He's be great at GC or young side  as an on field coach/leader if they can carry his lack of legs speed. If another club wants him, MFC will get him there.

You never know - he fits the Geelong recruiting profile.

I like Melky but if he can get more playing time elsewhere then he should go for it.

Obviously good signs for Laurie, perhaps with Petty developing well the club think Tomlinson capable of playing both ends?

Understandable on his behalf. I still rate his ability to connect inside 50. However, if he hasn’t got a defensive pressure aspect to his game that he can fall back on if he can’t get a look, then he’s going to struggle to get regular senior games. And as he loses a yard of speed as he ages, he’s not likely to develop that aspect.

I’d say North would be his best bet. Alas for him, GC have picked up plenty of older, fringe 22 players from more established teams who bring ‘experience and leadership’. It’s starting to smell of a way for blokes to get 3 or 4 years padding on their super and the chance to live on the Goldy than anything constructive. They need to start aiming for more Mabior Chol types moving forward.

Good luck to him.  He seems to only play how it suits him. We jumped at him when we didn't have much choice as to who came to the club, but he's gone backwards since then (arguably the only time he does run back...).  Can't see why a young club would want him around as a mentor.  Arguably should just go and teach people how to kick.

Geelong could do worse. Geelong have done worse.

Good luck to him - it will be so tough to break in because it is really only Fritsch's medium forward role that he can play in our better teams.

I am sure we would be upfront with him and right now is when all the clubs are talking to players so his agent should be doing the same for him.

To be honest, he had one, maybe one and a half really strong years in his time at MFC. He is also past his best at 30 years of age, and the club would be saying to him that there will be limited opportunities next season and there is unlikely to be a contract for you after that. You have our blessing to seek greater security elsewhere and we will work with the clubs of your choice in good faith to get you there. If that falls though we will welcome you back with open arms.

This is a good point.

I think the club would like to really have a look at Bailey Laurie next year who's very skilful by foot and plays that high half forward role. Melksham has never been quick, but his smarts and IQ had made up for that. But I think even that's catching up to him.

There is a theme when you're playing in Melbourne's forward 6 and that is you've got to bring immense pressure and tackling. Unfortunately again this hasn't been a strong part of Melkshams game.

Even if he cannot find a home next year he's still a good experienced depth option to have.

We've been very very lucky injury wise this year so would be happy for him to see out his contract, knowing he will have limited opportunities but provides a good fall back if needed and leadership. In saying that I like that the club is not hiding from these kinds of things and is open with the players. Last year it was TMac and ANB, go have a look and if nothing materialises this is what we need from you to improve...

I think he’s been very unlucky in 2021.  Only out of the team due to Spargo having a real breakout year. If Spargo had dropped off, Melksham would probably have come back in.

Jake’s Goalkicking is a huge asset. If you had a player to take a shot from 30-40 out, he’d be my pick (ok Maxy is our new sharpshooter!!! 🤣

Hope Dees keep this and other news “under the counter” until after GF. Don’t want this distraction.

No Roger he doesn't fit the Geelong profile, far too young.

I'd say early 3rd, he has a great footy IQ and has shown he can provide a great delivery to our forwards with his kicking.

Thanks, which clubs do you (any anyone else who want to chime in) think would be most interested in his services?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
