Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

David Neitz was not awarded an All Australian as a backman and a forward.

Jordan Gysberts had all the makings of an excellent player and should have been retained.

Never warmed to Jesse Hogan.

Jeff Farmer was/is a highly overrated player (still love him though).

Trading pick 2 in 2013 was the right thing to do.

I love Alistair Nicholson.

Joel Smith is already a handy defender, particularly in 1 v 1's, and will develop into a really good lock down KPB

I agree he is very good 1 on 1.  Does literally nothing else at the moment though.

Perhaps he can  replace Neville Jetta as our lockdown defender on small/mid sized forwards? I am sure I will get torched for that suggestion.

Made too many short term moves. Wasted two years with an awful one way defensive game plan that didn’t provide any value when Goodwin took over with a modern attacking game plan. This was the first year we’ve strived to both attack and defend at the same time.

Also left Goodwin to deal with Watts and Hogan when they should’ve been his number 1 priorities.

The club didn’t secure the right CEO and didn’t get an experienced head of footy.

The list build switched far too quick in to trying to plug holes rather than trying to add talent. Glen Bartlett can talk all he likes about the list management strategy but I don’t believe there really is one.

Settle down mate. The team which Roos handed over played a prelim final two years later.  We handled Watts perfectly well, and got, effectively , a good deal for Hogan. And then recruited BRILLIANTLY this year

He actually did ok on Papley in Cairns.

He was a disaster against James Stewart of Essendon who was too tall for him and booted 3 in a shortened game.

I would say if he’s to make it, it will be on the oppos small/mid fwd as you mentioned.

Roos handed over to Goodwin for the last game of 2015, who completely re did the game plan and built a side that made finals but wasn’t a real contender.

Now we’re rebuilding again on the fly because we didn’t get enough talent in the first time and the fundamentals were never truly established.

Im not saying Roos was all bad. He turned around a sinking ship which was a phenomenal effort. But he didn’t put anything in place to last long term. Almost all the people he bought in are gone.

When the AFL stepped in to take over Brisbane they did it with David Noble heading up the footy department and an experienced coach in Chris Fagan.

Watts and Hogan were ticking time bombs. Credit to Goodwin for making the tough calls on both of them. ‘The no [censored]’ bloods policy clearly didn’t make it down from Sydney

I am Smith fan but that bombers game was very concerning. He was beat by Stewart multiple times, Laverde and Draper. I don’t think size was as much the issue as an ability to read the play and stand a man. The same problem has hurt all our defenders apart from May, but Smith is particularly worrying given his lack of footy. Earlier in the year Smith shut down McKay and Rohan who are dumb straight line footballers, then got exposed by Riewoldt who he could easily handle for speed and size but who confused him with short leads and fakes.

Some of our deep zoning was truly diabolical which makes me worry about Chaplin. I don’t think he’s the right man to develop Smith. If Smith was at a side like Richmond or Sydney that develops defenders properly I think he’d make it.

We insist on a lot of zoning even inside d50 and the likes of Lever and Tomlinson just won’t be trusted deep, which means Smith has to be deep if he’s in the side and any mistake is super costly. Smalls who he can play man on man on is likely an easier role than talls who can confuse him. Frost had all the same troubles but started to get the hang of it this year at Hawthorn. So it is possible but it takes a lot of good coaching and time. Smith might not have either of those.

  • Hogan, $cully and Watts are just misunderstood,
  • Viney's disposal is good . . . his teammates just don't know where to run,
  • Jackson is all potential, probably won't make it,
  • Neeld should have been shifted into a head of coaching role,
  • Daniher and Swooper under-achieved with rich talent and unlimited resources,
  • I've got a soft spot for Eddie, Alan McAllister and Ranald MacDonald,
  • Footscay's premiership wasn't a fluke,
  • I'm really happy for GWS and the B#ms,
  • The sooner Melbourne play more home games in the Territory the better,
  • Collingwood should have beaten us in 1964 Granny.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
