Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He came because we discussed playing two rucks.

Well then this is poor research from the demons and pruess over estimating his abilities

he has been good to have a back up in case gawn goes down but that’s it.

Hopefully we have scouts around the place and know who the best ruck/fwd is not on an AFL list.

Just for arguements sake, Jack viney does want to go to Geelong. I wonder if we can trade Preuss and 47 to Geelong for an OVERS (Tampering) pick like their #17, on the promise that we don't match the UFA bid and force a trade, then we also get compo on JV in the first round too I assume.

Then we have 11 or 19 JV compo, 17* (Geel) and 21 (Haw)

Gee sounds more complicated than me making poached eggs for breakfast!

I think we sold part of an idea of a two ruckman system, plus there was a lot of concern about our lack of depth with ruckman should Gawn go down. Perhaps we also sold the idea that he would be our future.

Either way I’d personally say that his value has increased rather than decreased. He’d walk into at least three clubs as their number one ruck.

...and develop skills that he may have gained at the MFC, becoming a steadfast ruck/forward, resting Gawny for a while each game and marking and kicking 40 goals per season - he is still a beast, has mongrel somewhere and wants the ball. All he really has to do is adapt and learn, practise his skills and be determined to succeed, coz he's a big boy, now.

Still to this day one of the most bizarre recruitments we've had...

Perception is an interesting thing. I think it was a good move at the time and has the potential to be rewarding if he is traded.

Dees needed a "ready made" back up for Max, as others have said injuries/not being fit enough hasn't helped him. Pruess choice is the strange one.

I wasn't saying we planned to use two rucks, I was saying I think we told him we had that plan. I remember reading a quote from Preuss about having a conversation with Goodwin about playing two rucks.

I can't get past the paywall buy the blurb on google suggests there may be quotes here.

I'm hoping the club would be having a strong preference to dealing with the Sydney Swans. We would potentially get a better draft pick in return.

GWS could get an end of 1st round compo (pick 20) for Corr which would be a couple of picks better than Sydneys pick 22. These 2 picks will drift to about 27 and 29 which might be a good return for Preuss. GWS will have a couple of fringe players traded around the pick 25 to 35 mark. With all this and pick swaps, we should be ok to trade with them if we want a pick.

Almost fell off my chair when watching 360’s “Real or overreaction” segment and the question popped up on whether or not there was a lineup for Braydon Preuss. Fair to say I never expected Preussy to be a discussion point on one of the main AFL talk shows.

Whateley said it was “realish” while going on to say that the “idea“ of Preuss would appeal to some clubs. By which I assume he meant a ready made, physical, old style ruckman, fresh from an apprenticeship under the game’s premier big man.

I’d be amazed if we got anything more than a third rounder in total value. That said, if I were one of the Sydney clubs, GWS in particular, I’d be willing to part with a late second.

Funny times, if your assessment is correct then I would not trade unless it is a Sydney Club and a second rounder or player swap. I am ready to be howled down and I love what Max brings as a player and a person but it is almost a shame now days to have your best player a ruckman. if you had say a forward of maxs standing and a preuss type in the ruck, would it be better?

These are the ruck trades (excluding those that are so complicated that it's hard to ascertain the value) simplified from the past 10 seasons so that we can get an idea for the value of Preuss. Some are mentioned twice because they've been traded multiple times.

Matthew Lobbe, Jonathan Giles - Free-ish

Sam Jacobs, Darcy Cameron, Zac Smith, Marc Pittonet, Andrew Phillips, Nathan Vardy, Stef Martin, Jonathon Griffin – 4th round

Toby Nankervis, Trent West – 3rd round

Tom Hickey, Jarrod Witts, Zac Smith – 2nd / 3rd round

Shaun Hampson, Shane Mumford, Billy Longer, Tom Hickey, Ivan Maric, Brent Renouf, Sam Jacobs  – 2nd round

Paddy Ryder, Ben McEvoy, David Hale – 1st round

I think Preuss sits comfortably in the second round, perhaps even at the early end of it. The difference between a lot of the rucks on this list and Preuss is that barely any were in contract and were leaving for more opportunity. We have Preuss in contract, so we don't have to accept a sub-par trade. I'd be extremely surprised if we got anything less than a decent second round pick for him, especially with the thin ruck stocks for trade this year.

Genuinely disillusioned with our club.

Max is turning 30 and we have Luke Jackson, a second year underdeveloped kid as our only backup. (Bradtke is not backup).

Obviously trade period is still a while off, but I can't believe we're not even willing to trial these two for a good chunk of the season. Preuss is coming into his prime and has had two years to learn under Max. Isn't this the reason we brought him in?

I simply cannot understand it.

eh? max turns 29 at the end of this year

jackson is one of the most exciting young talls we've recruited in a long, long time

preuss turns 26 midway thru next season and has played less than 20 games in his time playing afl; if he has value, now is the time to move him on

Where is there any evidence the club is pushing him out or wants to trade him?

All we seem to know at the moment is a report from one journalist that says Preuss wants to leave.

Which means Max is turning 30 at the end of next year.

So.. he's turning 30 going into a season potentially without a backup. Jackson is a ripper, but name one other club who begins a home and away campaign with one mature-aged ruckman and the next being a 19 year old kid?

If Preuss has decided to seek a trade elsewhere, what does that tell you?

He came to our club for a reason which was the proposition of playing alongside Max. There is evidence for that everywhere.

Goodwin refused to trial it for long enough and instead continued to play Tom McDonald even though he was offering the side next to nothing.

Trade him for one of the GWS first rounders that are OOC: O'halloran, Caldwell or Hateley whichever fills our needs most. They'll all have more talent than whatever we might get in the second round this year.

no, he turns 30 literally the day before 2021 ends; he'll be 29 for the entirety of 2021

most teams run with one ruckman on ground at all times - there's no need to 'panic' about us running with just gawn and jackson being our sole two rucks on the list in 2021 as there's still a whole trade and recruiting period to come

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
