Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't have a super strong opinion either way on these players, but in similar-ish roles:

ANB Round 2 - 9 disposals , 1 mark, 2 goals, 1 tackle, 5 score involvements, 0 turnovers, 0 clangers = Dropped.

Bennell Round 10 - 5 disposals, 0 marks, 1 goals, 2 tackles, 2 score involvements, 0 turnovers, 1 clanger = Dropped.

vandenBerg Round 10 - 6 disposals, 2 marks, 0 goals, 2 tackles, 1 score involvement, 4 turnovers, 3 clangers = Selected.

One of those vB clangers was the free reversal that cost us a goal, the kind of blunder other players have been dropped for by Goodwin.

Now I get circumstances come into it and stats don't tell the whole picture, but I find it hard for anyone to argue Goody doesn't play favourites at selection in the face of this. Even Gawn was talking about it post-match. This is the same Goodwin who every week talks about our 'basic errors' and 'forward connection' but says 'the effort was there'. So why is the prototype of those problems getting picked automatically no matter what he does?

This is the opportunity for the “outsiders” to grab a senior game, one of them should shine

They must be hungry for some match payments

Step up time

Not sure I'd call any of the players brought in this week "outsiders".

Preussy must be feeling like a right plonker for coming to Melbourne. Needs to seek a trade ASAP. He should be playing at the top level.

What has he shown that makes he deserve a spot at the top level?

He couldn't get a game at North, hasn't managed continuous games at Melbourne.

He is not an AFL level footballer, he's just tall and big bodied.

This game will be no walk in the park. Some of the comments on here saying we should beat them easy have seriously no idea. This is the kind of game that on paper we should beat easily, but we don't.

I don't mind the selections. People making out like Spargo is the worst footballer in the league is downright just [censored] poor form. The kid only played off in a prelim as an 18 year 2 years ago against the eventual premiers. He's lost his way a little, but he's got the work rate to work his way back into form. He had an absolute shocker in round 1, but willing to give him another guy because he brings added pressure into our forward line.

What worries me is that we legitimate don't have a genuine ruckman. McDonald has the tank to play as a ruckman, but don't expect many hitouts. Needs to really get on his bike and outwork Goldstien.

Brayshaw, Harmes, Sparrow. The opportunity is right in front of them now to grab the midfield spot and take it with both hands.

First time our 2019 draftees in Jackson, Rivers, Pickett will played together for the first time in red and blue. We are the only club this year to have all of our draftees playing in the same game.

Another good tick for Jason Taylor and his crew.

If I was Goodwin and those three were up for selection, there is zero doubt who I would pick - AVB. He gives more than stats, manic pressure, aggression.
aside from the goal he was handed last week, Bennell had four touches and looked so far off the pace.
obvious decision for me and no favouritism

Yeah I love vB's intensity too, but logically it doesn't stack up that Goodwin talks week after week about how our effort is good but our skills are bad but then continues to pick a bloke that butchers it every single game.

Reckon you're being pretty harsh saying he was 'handed' that goal, it wasn't like he was running into the goal square. His skill is what got the goal. vandenBerg managed to give away at least 1 goal for us, so that's a pretty clear difference for mine.

6 disposals - 4 turnovers, 3 clangers. You can be as tough as they come, but if you're doing more for the opposition than your own team you shouldn't be playing the next week IMO.

You might be reading too much into the post game pressers. Goodys priority is winning the ball and being hard. AVB has been hurt in the past two games which has impacted his output for sure.

anyway I respect your opinion. I would love Bennell to come back in and play well

Pretty disingenuous to reduce it to “he couldn’t get a game”. At North he was behind Goldstein and at Melbourne he’s behind Gawn. Two of the top handful of rucks in the game. Hence why he should go to a club where he’ll get better opportunity.

He’s had some very decent games, aggression aside which in and of itself is an underrated asset, ala Vanders, Mumford etc. In terms of craft he comprehensively beat Kreuzer (44 hit outs to 24) who is an elite ruck.

Another club will and should grab him with both hands. He’s wasted here.

For the record, no one should be saying Bennell is “dropped” he is very clearly being managed. I would prefer him be available for the pies than the Roos.

On paper we should still get this done; Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw, Harmes, and Sparrow need to show hunger at the contest and get us over the line.

If we win I’m going to say Weid kicks 4+ goals having a game that announces him as a genuine forward for the future.

Don't mmind spargo in. Hayley's lack of physicality was a problem and spargo will provide more pressure. Neat enough kick too.

For the reasons stated dismayed, but not surprised at Tmac's selection. I hope he proves me wrong. I'd play him out of the square all game, and rotate jackson, Weed and Tomlinson.in the ruck (59-30-20), with tmac taking all stoppages inside 50.

Really like rivers in. I hope they encourage him to be aggressive with his kicking.

Kozzie should have benefited from a little break and I hope they encourage him to take his shots at goal. Have a sneaky feeling he might have a good game.

Hannan is dead set lucky to get back in after his last game. He is the sort of fella to work hard to take the chance he's been given. Expect him to apply a lot of pressure.

If all on hannan, kozzie and spargo will make it very hard for the roos to exit our 50. I look forward to all three bringing the heat, and if they do it will go a long way to helping us win.

Bottom line we should win this. But every chance we won't if the whole team don't bring the heat.

We had too many passengers against port, and up till half time against the crows.

No passengers and we win.

That’s overly optimistic for a guy who can’t get a game at the Dees. I think we could get a pick in the 3rd round 50ish or get a trade for a player.

We know that it's very rare for all the players in the team to play where they are named. Does anyone really think that Rivers will play CHB? I think we'll see Tomlinson there again, ruck duties to be shared with LJ & TMac with around the ground support from other talls (at least TMac has the tank to cover some ground).

C'mon folks.....this is tough going for every team....fitness right now is paramount! Teams with run in their legs at the end of each quarter, especially after half time, have the best chance of winning. How about we trust in our coaching staff and our fitness staff to put the best team we can onto the field.

Get behind our boys in these really difficult times!

I just can't believe they would drop a quality player like Bennell for a spud like Spargo.

From what I saw live at the Adelaide game, it confirmed what I’ve been seeing on tv.  Bennell is afraid or not willing to make contact.  I understand that his disposal stands out in our team, but players at AFL level need to be willing to make physical contact when it’s required.

In my opinion Bennell does not meet the definition of quality player at the moment.

I really hope he can lift in this area, because we know he can be damaging with ball in hand.

Given the bizarre nature of the season, I could sort of understand the changes.

That is until I read on the Melb website that Jackson " will be taking the number 1 ruck duties" !!!!!

That is crazy! Goldy will be too strong and too experienced for him. I can't see it doing any good for his confidence or his body.

I assumed Tmac would ruck against Goldy and aim to at least nullify his hit outs and then we rely on our strong mids.

WTF is Pruess by the way

I don't get it.

Neither do I and if IF we win this still not convinced about Goody

Spargo FFS! Hunt must be peeeeesed Off!

I think the Weid will second ruck. Tommy permanent forward. Key backs don't ruck Tomlinson won't ruck. Jackson to ruck back and midfield like Gawn. Weid to ruck forward and a little bit in the middle when Jackson needs a break.

AND THERIN Lies the problem Weeds developing nicely as a key forward and now potentially u are wanting him to ruck against and experienced performer.. I agree Goodwin has no idea. Pruess emerg??? Just play him for his bodywork FFS

Spargo is easily the worst selection of the year. Tommy isn't much better but when on song he can at least play forward, Spargo can't play anywhere.

Are you going for some sort of record to see how many times you can rubbish Spargo in a single topic?

Spargo had a terrific 2018 where he played his role in the team to the satisfaction of the coaches

2019 was like others, injury ruined @Kent

Brendan McCartney told me Spargo was one player who always makes the right decision going inside 50, of course, that's only his opinion

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
