Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

It's the same crash bash 'numbers at the contest' manic game style under Goody that will never win many matches unless you have your top 20 to 22 players in and playing at their best and in peak fitness.

Three more years of this trash?  The MFC hierarchy will no doubt keep towing the improvement/development line during the entire tenure, hoping the fans will take the bait!

Go, Go, Goody...somewhere else.

I think Frost errors are down significantly. He contributes well, although unsteady. He is overly castigated here.

Good to see May call out that headless chook Frost. For every good thing he does in a match, there are three or four critical errors that cost us dearly

I would have rather seen May offering advice and tips to Petty.  Word was the young players at GC were happy to see Mays back.

That disconnect still clearly exists, countless times we did look away bombs or kicking it to positions that weren’t in our favour.

Hannan found space, once; Fritta found space by following his man from the backline; result? Two goals. Enough said.

I was happy to see us take them on and try and attack and but you gotta work both ways lads.

The defensive efforts in our forward line and around the contest were deplorable. I haven't seen us spanked so comprehensibly at the coal face for a long time and it was all about effort

Lost it in the coaches box - and not for the first time

Game style and lack of skills/polish Chook.  Today was also alot about a lack of two way effort and will to win the clearance.  The Lions showed us who wanted it more.

Does the game style prevent the development of skill/polish?   Focussing too much on crash bash contested vs a balance of class, run, skill and finish on the outside?

In addition, where is the structure/discipline/training to hold the receivers on the outside and get it to them effectively (and wide enough) to allow them some space to work into?

How many shovel handballs did we witness today that went to a player a few feet away under immediate pressure and/or about to be set upon?

After 14 rounds we are still seeing....

- Too many at the coal face for ground balls and an imbalance waiting / holding their structure on the outside waiting for the receive.

- Too many flying for marks (regardless of where on the field)

- An insane number of turnovers in general play.  Skills generally shithouse.

- Forwards often running away from a pressured contest mid field or a player under pressure coming off a wing etc instead of presenting on a lead.

- 2 to 3 forwards still crashing packs.

- Front & square options almost non-existent, bar Lockhart on a few occasions last week.

- Bombs to the top of the square without assessing/looking.

- Players obsessed with blindly rolling out to their preferred side and playing on without getting back quickly enough behind the mark first and assessing what options they have (or don't have).

- Forwards continually not willing to take a set shot at goal and looking to pass the buck to someone else... Jeffy last week from 30 meters, Smith & Tommy today both very gettable goals.  Both of those kicks did NOT hit their target.

- Blind faith of Goody continuing to play a massively out of form Tommy instead of Pruess.

Look how GC are doing now, of course they would be happy to see the back of someone trying to hold them to account.

Viney and Oliver in our best according to Goodwin. No mention of Jones or even Frost, both had far more influence on the game than either of Viney or Oliver.

Yeah they have been awesome to watch hey?

That 9 game losing streak is proving that they are in such a great position.

I love having losses like these just to see what absolute dribble you comes out of your [censored] Ol.

Oliver was fantastic today. His work in close was genius. It doesn't always come off, but the problem is typically the disposals after him, not him.

Bulldust. He gives poor handballs and allowed his man far too much space. Only ran one way

Brisbane are a very polished settled side with a fantastic midfield. 14 of their players have played every game this year. This has allowed them to grow together, be very cohesive and have a very settled line up. We have all known that Hipwood is a gun.

In contract Hore, Lockhart and Baker are first year players and Petty in his second year has 5 games to his name. In the last 2 weeks the opposition have played through Petty taking advantage of his inexperience. He is a good mark reads the play well but hasn't got the strength or poise yet and turns it over. Hipwood took him apart in the third and the start of the fourth and if you watch the vision, it was May who asked frosty to go to Hipwood. Poor form from the coaches box to not make the move in the third and idiotic to leave hime there at the start of the last. I also think the long season may be catching up with More and I like Lockhart and bake has a go. Lets not forget Smith has played 11 games and if he was the answer he would have played a lot more than that.

Compounding all that our mids got smashed today. Neale, Lyons and Zork tore us to shreds and won so many centre clearances we could easily have lost by a lot more. The deficiencies are plain to see I hope we can recruit to fill them.

Yes could not believe that they left Petty on Hipwood that long, let’s destroy the kid! I was at the game screaming for the Frost switch. We seemed to have mismatches all day down back with May then Frost on Cameron. And yes we lost it at the centre clearances 20 to 6 but I think the six was generous. First time I have seen that post Neeld!

The saddest part about this season and the pathetic demise is that it really comes as no surprise such is the nature of this football club. They collectively just have no capacity to compete for long enough to win games on a regular basis, believe their own BS afar too often and are not a serious threat to anything other than the wooden spoon

Yes, Hipwood is a gun. However, we could have tried to build on that 10 point lead enough to make them doubt a little. Hipwood knew he could work his magic because we never tried to put the Lions away.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
