Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Rookie as in a first year player.

Not rookie as in on the rookie list.  Wake up ET!   ?

Well saved!

I hope Gil doesn’t read this, he’ll love the Americanism of it and make everyone refer to all first year players as Rookies.

Once Hibberd retires, Jordon should fill the hole left by him and play a similar role.

Spargo? Really? For mine, won’t make the grade. Was fair when the team was playing well last season but very ordinary this year.

I have concerns over Weideman’s future with us. Hasn’t put in at all in the few games he has played this year after looking like our saviour against Geelong in the Elimination Final last year.  I don’t mind Tim Smith but The Weed has it all over him in terms of potential.

Have fat Eddie and his cronies been in his ear?  Do Goody and the boys know something we don’t? There was that ridiculous $650k contract talk In April shortly after which he is back at Casey. He is apparently not injured so should be our FF.

I'm not one usually to get too discombobulated about selections but i'm bamboozled by Spargo getting a gig ahead of JKH. Flummoxed even.

Was an emergency after struggling at VFL level, gets a late call up and puts in a stinker.

It usually takes this current regime a week later than the rank and file to work out an obvious selection.

Bringing in a grossly out of form Spargo instead of Lewis for Salem last week was a bush league standard selection.

Next week they’ll select JFK and drop Spargo after his inevitable 4 possession game.

Selection has been one of the 999 reasons we’re having such a poor year.

It's been a rookie amature coaching stint all year BBP.  Too stubborn, too slow to react with game style/structure on game day, too slow to change up a high press that we could not enforce and bleeding goals out the back, playing slow players in postions that require speed and too many bog ordinary mind baffling selections.

Spargo last week ahead of Pruess, then watching Spargo play at FF on Davis for a stint, was the tipping point for me.

Interviews with SA radio from club website below.  Apologies for only posting the article link...don't have the expertise to post just the video link.

Mahoney pre game Interview

Chaplin pre game Interview

Re Lewis, Mahoney says he needs to go back and play well at Casey and be ready to play later in the year.  Not sure if that was a turn of phrase or he meant Lewis won't be in the seniors for a while.

Re Goodwin's dizzy spell last week.  They both said he had been working hard at his fitness training that morning and hadn't eaten and was fine in the afternoon.   They said he is a very hard worker and Mahoney implied he may be working too hard.

Mahoney said he Macca and others were helping Goodwin and he has some excellent mentors outside the club he turns to for advice.  It occurred to me that Mahoney and Chaplin taking these interviews was a way of lessening the load for Goodwin.  If so, a good move.  Lessens the load and frees him to  prepare for and focus on the game.

On Brad Green, Mahoney said the club was getting around Brad in many ways.  Also mentioned his mates had done so, some coming over from Perth, some taking days off work.  Not surprising as Brad is such a good bloke but still heartening to hear.

When asked about 'playing the kids' (Robbo had suggested it on AFL360) when we can't make finals, Mahoney said 'we can't get any younger can we'!  He said we had played 35 different players.  Great answer as Robbo had prefaced his suggestion with 'I won't use the word tanking'.  It annoyed me as no-one in the media in recent years has use that word for other teams playing their kids.  But its Melbourne, right?  Well Mahoney has the perfect answer.  We have to play them!  Obvious for all to see.

Chaplin surprised me when he said he had viewed vision of a Crows game the night before and would view another one today for ideas.  Wouldn't that happen early in the week to incorporate ideas into training?

I wonder if Hibberd and Hore were on board?

Hore certainly was, asked him about the calf, said she'll be right.

So, were they talking about a part of his anatomy?  or, was it a reference to the pet baby cow he keeps in his back yard?  (LOL!)

Good to see Salem and Hibberd back, hopefully both are right to go.

Not particularly impressed to see Hannan in on the back of 1 game in 8 months. He can go missing even when fully fit, so I'd hate to see how he'll be without enough match fitness.

Wagner has been dropped three times in five games - pretty safe to say that he is done as an AFL footballer. Petty and Lockhart may not have made the cut any way, so not concerned by their absences.

That said, why on earth are Spargo and Smith in the team? They are both contributing nothing at present. I'd delist Spargo if he didn't have a contract for next year. I'm no great fan of Weideman, but at least he has some chance of being on an AFL list in two years. In a season where finals are off the table, we are just wasting games on playing Smith over Weideman and Preuss.

Forgot about that.

When you see one of our 5"6 little nippers on one of the premier defenders in the league, you'd have to say our coach has probably lost the tactical battle in the coaches box.

The absence of Preuss amazes me ... should be included if only to relieve Max in the bathroom heat of Darwin

Of all the reasons we may have recruited Preuss, this is not the first one that comes to mind. I would have thought Max was quite capable of relieving himself.

Crows in Doubt

Pike says Lynch and others may be in doubt.  Could be just 'mind games'.

I reckon we can win this.  Tex might be like angry ant after last weeks embarrassing shirking of a contest but he isn't going to turn on a blinder; hasn't done so in years.  Harmes to Sloane.  Hore or Hibberd to Eddie.  Frost 'sacrifices' his game to run everywhere with Lynch, wear him like a glove to shut down his linking game.  They don't have a De Boer to shut down Oliver

Our midfield to finally hit its straps.

Go Dees!

Why does Lever look like he just got out of a prisoner of war camp? Puny, pale, unwell-looking. His arms and legs look wasted. Why hasn’t he been in the gym building up his physique in the 12 months he’s been injured/in rehab?

He has always been 'underdone' physically and is very pale, almost sickly up close. That aside, he also looks very manageable lacking a physical presence. These characteristics may assist his game, his fitness or something similar, but in honesty, he does not look like a footballer at all. I'd reckon he was a badminton champ, instead. Even Tulip looked more aggressively adept.

Fact 1. Adelaide are not a good side.

Fact 2. We are not playing well enough to beat them.

Fact 3: Goodwin and the selectors do not really care, this week.

Have you seen him play? Who cares what he looks like?

When he was at Adelaide he was selected in the All Australian squad and was playing as an elite intercept defender...probably the best young defender in the competition...and you want to talk about his complexion. Maybe you prefer the Brent Moloney types, tanned and with big muscles.

I for one cannot wait to have Jake back in the side. He is going to be a very good player for us for a very long time.

Smith has been our best contested mark in his games this year. He needs to do more, but I’m not concerned by his selection.

Im baffled at Spargo getting another game. He has been awful this year. Needs to go back and try and get his hands on the footy a bit.

I agree if we were playing in France he would be known as L' espargot.

DEE-RUBBING by George on the Outer

For the second week in a row, the Demons had to endure some particularly oppressive match conditions — this time, playing in 30 degree temperatures at the MCG, following the humid sticky Sydney atmosphere of last week.   The warmer conditions didn’t seem to worry the Dee’s since the ball was so much easier to handle, and handle it with surety they did in handing out a 45 point drubbing to the much fancied Western Bulldogs.   After a slow start that saw the Dogs out to

CROSSING THE PICKETT LINE by The Oracle

Melbourne’s performance in losing its Round Zero contest in Sydney has certainly caused the club, the coach and the players to come firmly under the watchful eye of the football world and exposed all of its aspects to a microscopic lens.   Much of the commentary surrounding them has been less than complimentary and, while some might argue that this is unfair after only one round, leaving aside some of the scuttlebutt that surrounds a lot of the discussion around the game, a fair amoun
