Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I was pretty sure we had it when the Hawkins free was reversed (if it were any team other than Geelong I would have been sure then);

I was certain when Geelong were out the back but the Cats player fell over and Gawn dived on him to get a holding the ball.

It was party time when Hannan kicked that goal.

Due to decades of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory I am with you bbtb at the 28 minute mark the guy next to me looked at me  and we both  said we've got this.

During the week! I knew the boys had this... no doubt at all.

You have got this boys! ??

Are you extending medical advice to all the males suggesting our testicles are red and blue? I know we like talking about bleeding red and blue but I think you've taken it one step too far.

Really enjoyed how our boys put team first always and seem to gel.

I was getting so beyond frustrated with Geelong staging and flopping around for free kicks all night. It was beyond pathetic and was like they just each wanted an easy kick.

I would be so ashamed if my team dished up that staging performance.

I honestly hope the cats pick up Dahl. Give them selves salary cap squeeze and drift off to nothing for the next 10 years.

Their "stars" are so over rated, abblett WAS an absolute star but he is so far cooked and has been for 2 years.

Selwood is a dirty ducking cheat, no clue how he is seen as this ultra tough captain. His brother also takes after him.

And danger is one of the biggest "look at me, I'm the best" flogs in the league.

Long and short of it. I couldn't be more proud of our boys and want nothing more than these guys to grow into a super team in years to come.

Thought when Jones kicked a captains goal in the last was the moment I knew we were playing Hawthorn next week.

Yes me too. I was pissing myself laughing after Viney crunched Selwood and was awarded that free kick.

So funny so good

I think when Jones kicked that goal in the last quarter I actually believed we had this.

At this point, the young lady sitting next to me began to hyperventilate so whilst I had the urge to slap her to snap her out of it (she was interrupting my moment), I had to get her to slow down her breathing and resssure her we were home.

Thank God I was right?

It was Hannan's goal for me. i was thinking one more would seal it and when he ran in and kicked it I launched out of my seat and threw both fists in the air.

Completely forgot that I'm recovering from shoulder surgery. Finished the game in considerable pain, still sore now, but the smile hasn't left my face since that moment. Go you demons!

When they played the national anthem, the Melbourne players and their coach stood as one with arms interlocked while their Geelong counterparts stood as individuals.

It’s all about the team and not individuals and our boys played like a team all night - the others played for themselves as exemplified by their captain’s tantramous exit onto the interchange bench in the third quarter when he robbed his team of a certain goal at a crucial time in the game.

I know it is just a trick of the light and the image resolution but to me it looks like all the Geelong players are covering their eyes.

There was a moment for me, I don't eve know when in the game (oh no, I'll have to watch a replay I guess), when Neville Jetta just completely dominated Dangerfield, even though the incoming ball was a bit to Dangerfield's advantage. I stopped worrying then, started soaking it up.

Hannan's goal was the moment but the significance of the stance at the anthem was nil for mine.

A lot of that can be hot air. The Saints linked arms in the 1997 GF and it didn't do them much good.

Noticed the arms locked and thought it was awesome. They looked like they believed in themselves. The cats not doing that although serious, it seemed like: just another game.

I was nervous with the first 3 kicks going against us and the deja vu of inaccuracy.

To be honest nervous all night given what Geelong did in the last 2 matches. When Hannan goaled I felt my sphincter finally relax.

Now Im worried about the hawks. I hope we can sustain 4 quarters against them.

There were plenty of signs that it was our night. In no particular order:

  • The Viney tackle on Selwood which lead to Jones kicking the sealer
  • Lewis smothering an Abblett free kick, not once but twice
  • Hannan's run and goal
  • Weidemann's marking, particularly in the first quarter
  • Tmac's early dominance
  • Gawn's tackle and holding the ball free
  • Oscar's defensive falcon
  • Geelong kicking points from point-blank range at least three times
  • Selwood's brain fade free near the interchange when Hawkins was lining up for goal

For mine, the last one was the real turning point. The MFCSS in me said that if we couldn't win after that, we never would. The MFC2018 in me said that we have them now!

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
