I was at the Western Oval Match in 1987. Today doesn't have the same feel.

1987 was at a suburban  oval which Demons  had to win after a long run .of wins. And was dependent on Hawthorn beating Geelong.

If Demons lose today, they will in all likelihood still make the finals.

I liked, as I too was there...transistor radio with earplug. I swear we spent as much time looking at those 'letters' on the scoreboard as watching the game. 1987. Who can ever forget...and lament...so...So...SOOOOOOOOOOOOO  close !!

I don't want to entertain losing. If we lose id rather just bow out and regroup for next year. I want to be fair dinkum in the finals irrespective of how far we go.

We'll know all about today, and our season,  in the first 10 mins

well, about to head out

Go Dees

In 2 weeks finals begin, if we can't win today or just scape in how do honestly expect to win a final, even against Richmond. Time to cut the crap and put a side a way.

Very nervous and been on edge all morning.  Whilst we've had many big games since 1987, the anticipation as a 15 year old seeing my boys play in September was unbelievable. Back then it was the most important thing in my life.

The 10 year drought we are hoping to end today has me feeling similar even though as a much older and wiser man I know life wont end.

Roll on game time

Ugh. Today will be my personal hell.

Im travelling for work and the flight boards at half time.  3 hours later when I find out the result I'm either going to be high fiving ground crew at the airport, or crying at an Uber driver.

And to make matters worse I'm going to Adelaide.

I can so relate to all of this. I was 15 in 1987, still remember how amazing getting to the finals felt.

And I too know that the world won't end today if the worst happens. There are bigger things going on- believe it or not. Like the fact my father isn't around this time, and all sorts of other things too.

Still got excitement building within though. Good to see many other Dees fans on the train.

The start is the key - we come out with intensity and intent we win comfortably, if we don't then it's going to be stomach churning day

big max needs to stand up as had a few weak games and grundy is good...I'm sensing a big game from Max

Haven't been this nervy/excited going to a game since the early - mid 2000's . Confident, but you never know really.

Hoping there's just as many Dees fans as Collingwood there today, make some noise people that are going.

If it makes you feel better, I traveled last year in exactly the same scenario when we played the Pies in Round 4 and the outcome was positive.

Simples!  Nothing more than the power of positive thinking. The same remedy that I'm trying to take into today's game.

I'm in Brisbane for work. Got Fox Footy at the hotel though so will be watching intently. So nervous. We are both favourite and it's a must win, which is a recipe for disaster with this team. Fingers crossed we stand up and deliver a finals appearance after 11 years!

My band is playing in the Sydney suburb of Engadine (south end of that godforsaken area known as "the Shire") which for me is a 45 minute drive.  We start playing at 2pm but I have to get there earlier to make sure everything is ready to go. So, by the time we have played and I've managed to drive back to civilisation, the game will be over.

The National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) serves the community of people affected by an autoimmune skin disease called alopecia areata that results in hair loss and emotional pain.

Sounds appropriate :)

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
