Surely this is what we've been working on since the Lever trade...

Problem is, I believe Essendon have 2 picks in the early-to-mid twenties, and will be eyeing pick 15 to trade for Stringer, if things don't work out with the Eagles.

You know it's been a slow trade period when the most exciting business so far has been the Lisa Wilkinson move to channel 10.

I've never watched that show.

All I know is she's married to a moron with a rag on his head.

Who got stuck into Eddie McGuire over the Adam Goodes 'Ape' saga yet called a black South African cricket coach a Gorilla. A hypocrite of the highest orde. He and Lisa deserve each other.

Not a rumour but if Garland retires (which seems likely) then I would be happy if the Dees picked up Sam Collins as a delisted FA. I've watched several games that he played for Freo and he looked impressive, was shocked they delisted him tbh.

Would then leave us with 3 spots on the Senior list which would all be used in the second round of the Draft.

5 trades so far!

If the rumors of North Korea using trade radio as a tool of torture are true let hope that for the sake of all things sacred they don't use a recording of this years'edition!

Let's just see how that plays out.

A weak draft doesn’t mean all the players are ‘weak’.  It means there is a perceived lack of high quality talent that are automatic top picks.  If we get talent that meets our needs, we can pick up gems in the second and later rounds.  Remember, the number a player goes for means little in the bigger scheme of things.  Hunt vs Toumpas, for example.

That's true, however I thought the phrase  meant that after the first few picks none of the other players looked impressive.  So unless you have a high pick, it is even more pot luck than usual as to whether pick 20 wil be any better than pick 40.  If no one stands out at all (though that never seems to happen), then the whole thing is a lottery.

The depth is weak this year. Typically can make a case for 50 or so players who would make good AFL level players.

Chook lotto after late 20's this year. Not a great year to load up on mid to late 2nd rounders.

Taylor said on the road to the draft podcast (and I can't remember the exact words) that he was down on this draft but was starting to find about 30 he liked and had a few in the naughty corner. Might not be the top end quality or the back end depth but the 3 picks in the 2nd round should all be guys the recruiters like.

I'm also hoping the 2nd round is a good spot for those speed and skill types who don't quite crack the first round.

Interesting

These are the type of drafts really good recruiters pay dividends.

Will still be an interesting Draft come November

So without overly complicating things, the state of play is three senior spots available with 29, 31, and 36 currently in hand (before adjustment).

Somewhere between 47 and 66 for Balic and a later pick for Smith upgrade.

We could package a couple second-rounders and move up toward a late first, which would perhaps leave us with an (est.) 18, 35 and 55. We could also upgrade just slightly for little obvious return to ensure a draftee on our radar is secure. And we could also of course bring in someone by surprise (for a second or maybe a pair of seconds).

From an upcoming TTP perspective however, we're probably at the stage where we can't bring in much more immediate or exposed talent in the junior bracket. The club is also clearly set on a course of sustained success, which means getting your systems in place and perpetuating that cycle.

But: taking three second-rounders to the draft is suddenly an exciting and once unexpected prospect (with Jason Taylor in mind). It offers us the chance to spread our bets and take at least one speculative dip. If we can nail one absolute steal from that swag, one consistent performer, and end up with one bust, I think we'd all be pretty chuffed.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
