really feeling the Watts and Tyson are just being saved from Flight time and Darwin conditions.

Don't know why but starting to get a little confidence that we can get over them again. Although would like 1 or more tough nuts to come in. Would seriously consider Trengove to sit in a traditional centre/pivot type role not necessarily ever leaving the centre square and bring in Maynard for some bull work around the stoppages. no idea who comes out. would also be happy no change - kent hogan and smith will be better for the run and Stretch has to get some form - probably Strerch out for Maynard would be the change

We'll never know.  The plane up to Darwin might have sealed their fates, but then they may have wanted to give them another week regardless so they are cherry ripe to go for the rest of the year.

This game won't be the one that costs us a finals spot either.

It sure looks like the club is hedging its bets here. As much as winning each and every game would be a thing of beauty, I'd rather drop this game now and come home with a wet sail (fit 22). If we pull it off then it's a massive bonus

Against Port we regain Watts, Tyson and potentially Viney. We win against those bogans and then get Salem back in against North in Hobart and clean up those bogans as well. Rd 20 we should get Jones back against GWS and the team should be at full strength. With the Lions and Pies left to deal with before a weeks spell prior to finals, we hopefully should be in very good shape for September.

Super exciting time.

Or, Tyson and Watts aren't fit. Why not just go for the simpler explanation?

That sounds like a broken bloody record.

So no Tyson or Watts this week. After scraping over the line against Carlton, I don't think we'll be able to get the job done again against the Crows. The week after though, Watts and Tyson back against Port at the G, we're a real show to get that win and knock off our nearest top 4 rival!

We might pocket $500k from the game but it might cost us a finals spot

I don't think there is any up side in this kind of argument. We made a call years ago when we were struggling and it helped us get through. We just need to be grateful for where we are at and move on.

Who for?

Be careful who you swap as well, as suggesting those that play in different positions doesn't constitute a straight swap.  I like Trenners but I don't see a spot for him in our side.

If they are being careful with Watts and Tyson, I'd say we will almost go in unchanged. The only change may be JKH/Kennedy in for someone who is a bit sore.

This game is 30/70 chance of winning regardless, so preparing the team for success in the remaining games of the year seems like a good resource management strategy.

Personally I would drop kent, have Harmes, Trac play less midfield time with trenners playing more midfield.

Both of these guys are giving us plenty in the midfield at the moment, especially Petracca.  No chance I'd move them out of there for Trengove.  For Viney, yes, but not for Trengove.

In Darwin's heat I cant see Trac lasting long in the midfield.

I'm just waiting to see Goodies team, Kent and Stretch were not great but both can run. Need much more grunt aroubd the contest, they offer little.

Going to be an interesting team.

Absolutely.  To be fair, Kent and Stretch aren't in the side for their grunt.  We still need some run around the footy.  We have Oliver, Lewis, Vince, Trac to do some of the grunt work with guys like Harmes, Hannan and ANB spending time in there as well.  We don't want an overload of grunt.

It will be an interesting team, but with both Watts and Tyson not getting up there may be no change to the side at all this week.

I'm actually expecting the same side, maybe one change? JKH?

The week after 4 changes wouldn't surprise me.

BT is a commentator for the neutral fan with nothing invested in the outcome of the game. I can't stomach him when so much is at stake like the last two weeks. He makes you want to throw things at the tellie.

No he is not. He is a complete buffoon.  He also drives me just as crazy when I'm watching a match about which I am neutral.

I'm calling no change.  There aren't any of our best 22 available to come in.  Don't think we can improve on the side based on available personnel.  Can't see the point in making sideways changes just for the sake of it, so they will get some more game time into guys that Goody an co believe are capable of being best 22 (Smith, Stretch, Kent (maybe)).

I really hope we can put up a fight.  Hopefully we have enough on field leaders to stem the tide if Adelaide get a run on.  Like Chunk did against Gold Coast and Adelaide last time.  Make it a scrap.

Why does Goodwin announce who is not playing this week hours before we have to list the team?  Surely it is better to keep the oppo team guessing as much as possible as they select their team even if there is no clear change they'd make if Watts or Tyson were to come in?   The longer there is uncertainty in their planning the better surely?

Not really.  They have very few options.

Minimal change.

This is what I was hoping for. We'll have a res hot crack up in Darwin but I'm not holding out much hope - plus the flight is no good on injuries. Give don and watts an extra week of rest and bring the rain to the G next week for port! Will be a huge game and hopefully the start of a powerful run towards finals.

Why the rain? Are they no good in the wet......?

On that basis we might see Pedo out replaced. Also explains why you would not risk a hamstring or dodgy knee.

thanks for that Goody.  Not in the mix. got it

all this teasing with trenners is killing me and no doubt him.

So how much closer can one get without actually getting in, remembering that Watts, Tyson, Salem then Viney and Jones will be coming back soon?

Sounds like more spin than Shane Warne.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
