Seriously does not add one single thing to the coverage other than blocked-nose, Geelong-o-phile, over-exposure.  Anyone who is enlightened by Ling, probably thinks the footy is round.

Ling talks as much as Bruce and BT.  Give me Jack Edwards or Bob Skilton or Doug Heywood over this guy.

Too much quantity, and not enough quality.  Waiting for Ross Lyon or Bevo to retire FCS.

There's seriously not one single winner on the ch7 commentary team.

I am pretty glad Ling didn't want to coach us. Would much rather Goody.

Best special comments is Pavlich - everything he says is a worthwhile comment.

Pav just feeling his way at the moment, however ding is more of "special" comments i think with nothing special about it other than seems to need a lead in.

Has Demonland really sunk to such depths that Cameron Ling gets his own thread on here? The only special comment he ever seems to manage to come up with is "they have all the momentum!" whenever a team kicks a few goals. Thanks for pointing that out to us every time Lingy - great observation, we would never had worked that out for ourselves.

I learned more about the footy listening to Swan Mackay on 774 in the 80's, and he was the around the grounds updater.

these guys could really learn from the soccer commentary. The game is not about them. They get their chance to spout their "wisdom" in the many breaks.

As I have said so many times would love an alternative commentary stream of crowd noise only.

Channel 7 has had appalling commentators for generations . . .

"There's enough time if they're good enough Lou" - Peter Landy every second week

"Oh golly Pete, this game is going down to the wire" - Lou Richards every second week

"That's a terrible decision umpire" - Ian Robertson every second week

What has been annoying me is how he's been going on the past fortnight about how Geelong have the right know how and template to beat the Crows. Does not mention that we beat them on their own turf and also neglects to mention that beating them with their own huge home dung hole advantage may be a factor.

The whole Ch 7 crew ( ling included) tell you the bleeding obvious and feed endless stats fed in turn to them by a producer to make them look informed.. We have eyes.  Fox actually have good and insightful discussions during play with the likes of Roos and Brereton, King etc.  They know we can see it, but they detail the issues on what we see.

I just wish I had Fox.

And they've got the best caller  - Huddo.

Terrible special comments caller. Just yells at the mic with just obvious stuff. No insight whatsoever.

Channel 7 really need to overhaul their commentary team. Leigh Matthews is probably the worst. Doesn't watch any footy apart from the games he commentates so his knowledge is dated and largely irrelevant now. I do love Bruce though for big moments...

Out of all the special comments experts who have ever been on tv, you could barely count on one hand those who have been any good. Ling is just another pathetic special comments expert in a long line of pathetic special comments experts.

("Experts" used purely for nominative purposes.)

Sometimes I think they've mic'd up a special bogan competition winner. But it's Cameron Ling.

If ever there was a Captain Obvious it's Ling. He provides no insight whatsoever outside of "Mummy is such an imposing figure" and "You just gotta love the way Joel Selwood plays the game".

I get the feeling Hodge is being groomed by Seven to replace Ling next year. He regularly bobs up on random games to commentate, so he's planning for post-retirement employment.

But yes, Ling is thoroughly shithouse. And you just know every time one of the commentators spew out statistics, they've been fed straight into their ear by a producer. It's as robotic, forced and unconvincing as a newsreader reading a teleprompter.

Insufferable, the lot of them.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
