Thought I'd start a thread acknowledging Bernie who is set to play his 200th game this weekend.

Fittingly it will be against his old club who he played 129 of those games for.

He has been a great leader for this club since joining and I think took his footy to a new level.

I'd like to see Bernie finish his career playing more forward than back as I think he would be more damaging there.

Well done to Bernie.  He seems quite a character.  His best is very good.  Haven't seen a lot of it lately, but hoping he's given more time in the midfield and up forward in coming weeks, and he rediscovers his best.

Fitting that he plays his 200th against his old team.  Just hope he is part of a winning team on the day.  That would be special!

He has been a good player no one gets to 200 AFL games if they a dill.

Sadly however he is IMO close to the end nowhere near the player he was in 2015 and the first part of 2016.

Respectfully disagree old dee.  I think his game against the Saints shows he still has it.  I think it's just about finding the right role for him.  A high half forward might be his best position if he lowers his eyes in delivering it inside 50.  I don't mind him off half back (not deep), but only if we have the run and spread to give him the targets.  Watching him try and force things is where I think he gets found out / turns it over.

Well done Bernie. Just play him in the midfield and not down back.

Been a very good player for us, and asked to do jobs he may not be suited to personally.

He is definitely one of the guys helping to lift us off the bottom, and we can't take that for granted. Sanderson didn't want him and he was our gift for Silvia leaving.

Sanderson did not want him, but most Crows supporters did.  Greatly liked in Adelaide town.

Has been a great acquisition for us.  Like others I prefer to see him in the midfield or down forward.

He definitely doesn't look like he is enjoying footy in the backline.

Wait, this will be his 71st MFC game? Jesus wept, that's gone bloody fast.

Would absolutely love to see Bernie make it to 100 MFC games, and I reckon he will. Inspired recruiting at a good price. An absolute gift from Sando - he's added plenty since he's been here and still has plenty to offer hopefully.

Onya Bernie!

It's debatable whether we should have put more money on the table to keep Col Silvia or use the pick we got from Freo for Bernie. I reckon Col was only 1 full pre-season from Brownlow contention, but I guess we will never know.

Loved that Bernie took Damian Barrett's glasses while standing at the urinal.

Is there a more handsome man to play the game?

He looks like an demented ice addict about to rob a 7/11 in a broken Ronald McDonald mask.

He is so ugly he should wear a hijab in public.

So I take it you didn't vote for him when the hottest player survey came out?

Congrats Bernie, like a few others I'm a little taken aback at how many games he's played for us. He's definitely a Demon now!

I'd like to see him return doing a run with role this weekend, ever since he had his foot trodden on he doesn't seem to have that killer kick down back which is one of the key factors for him being there.

I'm actually wondering if the AFL didn't do all they could to pre-script his 200th against the Crows this week? I'm also wondering if the MFC isn't keeping him out of the midfield to a) pregerence the development of our young players in there and b) manage Benie for the times we really need that extra output?

Anyways, hope he breaks free of the schackles a bit and puts in one of his blinder performances.  Came to us and offered so much when we were desperate for players to stand up and be competitive and I will never forget those first few years and that role he played for us.  Total legend Bernie - give em Crows hell mate, your well and truly one of us now!

Regardless of form or how he finishes up, will go down as one of my favourites.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
