Terrific contest all the same - old school.

Not convinced with the Cats ... whoever they play in the Prelim will test them. 

As for the Hawks ... they'll have enough trouble getting over the Doggies and then (probably) Sydney awaits.

Neither team has that sense of invincibility. The bottom 6 on both sides wouldn't greatly improve our team, if at all. Looking forward to seeing the Dogs take on the Hawks. I reckon they'll give them a run for their money.

They all looked as if they had been robbed. Not quiet enough help from their maggot mates.

They've never had to play in a Sydney final in 3 seasons, I think they've also been lucky to avoid Kangas at the MCG in the last two seasons who I think would have had a big scrappy fight with them in a final. They played a Freo who had survived on scrappy wins for an entire second half of a season last year who's only tactic was FYFE. This year I think it is probably too much. Go Dogs!

If GWS win tomorrow then the Hawks losing might actually work in their favor. I'd tip them in a prelim up there coming up aginast a GWS team that has only played one game in the last 3-4 weeks

There are a lot of old foggies on both lists.This was enough for the Dhorks to beat most lesser experienced sides during the year but not enough to overcome the Fat Cats tonight.I don't see either getting much further.

On a brighter note, saw again that spuds remain spuds, Frawley showing the height of his limitations, Fitzpatrick proving that he's maybe a one kick wonder.

To be fair, the move of Guthrie into the middle was a winner & turned the game.

I get a bit tired of listening to Bruce rabbit on about "Cyril" but it got me googling his draft year of 2007.

A rather good year by the look of things except for one stand out failure pick at 4. Is it any wonder we do not have a decent collection of senior players.

Cale Morton, Jack Grimes and Adam Marric, Kyle Cheney and Tom Mc Namara were our picks. Not even one out of four were a success. Thank the stars that we now seem to be doing better but it shows the baggage we carry.

i'd consider kyle cheney a success. not a great success but a success none the less (but not for us )

If Hawthorn manage to get past the dogs and win in sydney then manage to pull off another GF win then I cant help but admire them, however next weeks game against the dogs will be so tough. Im  not sure weather the cats could beat the swans in a GF.  Isaac Smith's previous 11 scoring shots in finals were all goals, Im not sure if it was because of the moment but I felt he should have kicked that. But what a great game and I almost feel we need to see these 2 teams back in the GF just to have a sequel. Lat year the cats missed the 8 they draft dangerfield and suddenly they are in a prelim.

I hope tonight Adelaide thrash the roos and send them out massive losers.

Hodges free kick behind the play and then 50m for abuse that gifted Selwood a goal was literally the difference between the teams. Was amazingly undisciplined.

I bet we never hear anything of it though. Doesn't fit into the narrative that overlooks the sniping and countless undisciplined things he's done on and off the field.

No words can describe my satisfaction at seeing the cocky, we can do what we like Hawks and still win, lose after the siren.  And in particular, Cyril, Hodge, Lewis and Mitchell. The born to win in your face abuse and jumper punches, the off ball sniping, the back chat to the umps was all there on display. Having said that lets hope they don't go much further.  They have the cattle but have they lost their edge? They did only lose by a kick.  On another matter, Guthrie  has become a terrific player and a real ball magnet.  Danger is a great player but Guthrie is getting there.

Yep, you could see he had clearly lost the plot for a little while, all he wanted to do was get back at Selwood, he had no focus on the footy at all...very costly! I love Hodge BTW, but that was a big moment. Reckon Clarko would have let him know too!

Only saw Tom Mc Namara after I posted the link. At pick 66 I am prepared to forgive the selectors for that one !

Just had a look at 2008.... at least with Watts at 1 and Jetta at 51, we got two out of 5 which is probably a pass in the world of drafting.

Not sure what mark I would give 2009..... Scully, Trengrove etc but it does have Gawn at 34

Also take a look at the smug 'We are going to win. This is almost like falling off a log, it's that easy' smile that Smith had on his face as he was about to kick for goal.
