Any love for this guy? He's on the move from Freo and was a key part of their dominant side over the last several years. Is 28 (or will be next season) so is getting on and struggled this year but so did the entire Freo side. Not sure if its due to him being on the decline, the club as a whole or Freo's inability to restructure their gameplan to suit the changes to the rules and faster, higher scoring games.

I would look at him if for nothing other than to have another big bodied guy around the contest while the likes of Oliver, Brayshaw and Petracca continue to develop. I can't imagine Freo wanting too much for him but they probably would prefer draft picks over players.

They may be keen on one.

Good player and hard worker. I think he has a few good  years left in the game. Perhaps another one of the more than a few  disgruntled Freo players?

A massive upgrade on VDB

I was shocked to see how young he is - though he was into his 30s.

Definitely showed signs of slowing this year but he a prolific accumulator and a hard worker.

Has two years left in him I'd say... worth a gamble, but I'd only be comfortable with us taking one player nearing their end.  Definitely take him over Thompson, not sure I'd take him over Harvey.

Absolutely worth a look at the right price. Barlow is a quality player and seeing as he started his AFL career quite late, he probably has a few good years left in him.

Disagree. His career looked over when Lyon tried to play him as a forward, and he ended up getting dropped. Returned to the side as a midfield tagger, and started racking up huge stats as well as shutting down an opponent.

If we got him, he'd be part of our midfield rotation.

I actually think he played some very solid footy at times this year in a really poor team, for the right price i'd certainly have a look at him.

Take it as a grain of salt but an SEN caller said half way through the year he heard Barlow would be a demon next year...

Obviously with how rubbish Freo have been I haven't seen much of them this year. Barlow is one who I thought struggled and spent time in the WAFL but according to the age article he was dropped for 2 weeks and came back with 2 months of solid form before being injured

Would like us to have a crack at him if there's a chance. North was mentioned as one club looking at him which is strange considering they've basically indicated they'll be in full rebuild mode.

He actually had a purple patch mid season, culiminating in a 40 possession games against Port. He was in career best form before injury killed his year.

A yes please from me.

Would be a great pick up is he a free agent?

I don't think Freo have offered him a contract, so he could potentially be a Delisted Free Agent. Good player and certainly deserves a new contract. His form after coming back into the AFL was pretty good.

Starting inside mids: Jones, Viney, Tyson, Oliver, Brayshaw

Depth: ANB, Trengove

Rotation mids: Petracca, Salem, Kennedy, Vandenberg, Harmes

If Melksham and Hibberd do the job at half back then Vince can also go back in the midfield as a tagger/experienced big body accumulator

Do we take Barlow or Scott Thompson for experienced depth if they are free to a good home? I wouldn't say no, but I wouldn't rush out and do it either. Wait and see how the rest of the list is shaping before adding one of these guys.

Unless we trade out someone like Neal-Bullen, i don't see the need for more inside mids.

The only experienced delisted midfielder i've been interested in so far are Dal Santo and Harvey as Dal Santo can help with our kicking and Harvey our speed. Harvey would probably play more forward anyway.

Never been in Fremantle's leadership group that I'm aware of. To put that into perspective, even Ballantyne got a gig in 2013.

Has also chucked the sads when playing half forward.

If we're to bring in another experienced inside mid, I'd prefer they be an asset to the club in other ways. We are short on leaders. We are not short on inside mids.

I'm open to the idea because he's a quality player, but he isn't addressing the greatest needs.

Struggled early then found some really good form before getting injured again. Still a no from me. Pure and simple we need a gun, if we can't lure one then we carry on with our group of young players and keep getting games into them.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
