The only thing I can think of to put an effort like that in, is the washing machine was broken so the team manager informed the players not to get their guernseys dirty.

I never lose my cool, yet today screamed at my TV at least 5 times. 

No doubt we will beat geelong now and finish the year off well, but that was limp, listless and quite frankly disgusting in the acknowledge of effort.

I agree with this.  Normally I don't, but the Neal-Bullen decision still baffles me.  We have Ben Kennedy, a bloke who knows how to play forward, languishing in the reserves and they ignore him for a pure mid.  Bad decision and we paid for it, as Nibbler had little to no influence on the game.

Weideman had no influence either, and while Michie had a better second half, he isn't a damaging player.  

Not much we can do about it but moan now, I guess.

Tyson, Hunt, Jetta, the McDonald's can hold their heads high and Hogan worked hard but kicked like a D grader.

That leaves the rest. Gawn had an absolute bath. Jones was terrible. Michie and ANB have no weapons for this level. Trade and delist both. Weideman was run off every time and was redundant. Vandenberg and Bugg are fringers. Horrible skills.

We were unclean, overused the ball and couldn't execute basic fundamentals of the sport.

I didn't want to be right but I've been telling my Carlton mate all year that they'd beat us in that game. We're just as likely to beat Geelong next week.

In hindsight, missing the finals this year isn't such a bad thing, because if they can't handle the pressure of beating a pitiful 16th placed Carlton side on the MCG to keep their finals hppes alive, they wouldn't have been able to handle the pressure of a final.

We are screaming out for bona fide mature leaders. Jones is good,Vince disappoints too often and that's it! Carlton aren't great but have older players who can get the job done on days like this.

Some kudos to Hunt and Jetta. Hogan would have got some for his game play but loses it for missing easy shots at goal

And if Dom Tyson gets tackled once more for not taking the first option, only to be tackled by someone he did not see coming in from behind or the side, I will spew.

It is just frustrating that we persist playing millionaire dry weather football when the conditions change. Our over use of the handball was embarrassing. Overall this season has been an improvement but we have a long way to go.

Paul Roos set out to improve our percentage. He has succeeded.

He set out to improve our win rate. He succeeded at that too.

He set out to reduce the gap between our best and worst. He has quite clearly failed in that regard.
And the shame of it is, even if we somehow beat Geelong next week, it will only serve to prove that the gap between our best and worst is just too large.

Still the soft [censored] front runners that crap ourselves when the opposition have a go. Never looked a chance of redeeming a three goal deficit. The Hogan kicking issue was big before the season proper and has gotten worse. Not sure why some think it is no big deal. He should have another press conference and fess up. He just sucks the life out of our forward line and is a momentum killer with ball in hand.

Is it a bad thing that despite our form over the last month, I still expected us to lose? There's been a lot of positives over the year such as cracking the 10 win milestone, taking down Hawthorn and unearthing young players such as Hunt and Petracca but the lowlights have been as bad as they've ever been. Knowing we could be sitting comfortably in the top 8 with wins over 'easy teams' such as Essendon and Carlton will haunt me for a while. 

Despite all that, I have no doubts that this team will provide us with some memorable highlights over the next decade. But there's certainly still some bumps that need to be ironed out first.

We didn't want it early and we couldn't peg them back.  We had more of the ball in the end, more inside 50s and so forth, yet we played right in to their hands.  It's not good enough and I'm positive, with another pre-season under our belts, we will get better at these situations.

Hogan needs to fix his kicking, no doubt about it.  But to suggest he has an 'attitude' problem is ridiculous and disrespectful.  19 touches and 14 marks in horrid conditions is a damn good day out.  It's tainted, of course, with his kicking for goal, but that can be fixed.

And if I see posters claiming our culture hasn't changed and so forth, then you need to take a good, hard look at yourself.  You know it has changed.  We need to eliminate these types of losses, but I suspect this will motivate the boys for a big pre-season and a crack at finals in 2017.

Just noticed it was 20 free kicks to 5 today.  I hate blaming something like this, but to suggest we only earned a total of 5 free kicks in a game of footy is ludicrous.

Have to say that is a well thought and accurate post. Hogan tried his heart out today when quite a few shouldn't have even turned up. 

THis club has is far from to the one of only 2 years ago.

Congrats to Bolton. Thanks to his clever game day tactics he had a team with A grade spuds and hacks plus 3 good players, rip us to shreds. 

On the other hand, Melbourne with everything to play for, turned up a week too late for this game. Believed their own hype and got too far ahead of themselves. 

Not only did we miss finals by losing this game, we've given North a finals birth without needing to win a game. And St Kilda are above us on the ladder. Triple blow. 

Gawn had his worst game in two years today btw. Not a good time to have a stinker!
