I really don't see the need.  Personally I think he'd be better off going to Fremantle if it can be arranged.  The coaching would suit him and it would give them some much-needed presence in the forward-line.  They can't expect McCarthy to do it all.

Would be 30 by the start of next year, deffinalty an upgrade on Dawes and Pedo and wouldn't cost the world... Could be worth it on a 2 year contract while Weed fills out a bit more?

In all seriousness GCDee il try to talk reasonable with you as you probably dont deserve the flack your currently receiving but i can see your logic and what your trying to say. Unfortunately i put Cloke in the David Rodan and Shannon Byrnes category as old washed up have beens that are just battling in the VFL.

We are now past the moneyball stage where we just recruit to fill in the list and help our young kids. We are now a destination clubs for the likes of Prestia Fyfe O Meara etc.. The days of recruiting  the Rodans, Byrnes, Gillies and even Cross are now over.

Now if it was 2013 and Cloke was in the situation he is in now then i would say ues becausd he would take the pressure off a young Hogan and Watts.

Still contracted on the wobblers board until next year, lets leave them intact, so they can get to now one another just a little better.  He's eating they're salary cake & spot.

And we don't want to help them go after the Weed anytime soon.

They need one another.

Lin Jong for Travis Cloke.

Done deal.

Not that I think we should get him but I feel like he is a much better player than he has been this year. A top 8 team lacking a KPF wouldn't lose much by giving him a go I feel.

Yes, thanks. He was a good player for us in those dismal days.

I've never heard this story before. What a shame. One of the great things about demonland is the opportunity to learn more about the club's history.

When a player of his age has a form dip its not often reversable. Time to take old travis out behind the shed....

Opened this thread thinking surely no one is actually suggesting us getting him. Not meaning to be harsh on the OP but no. Past it, down on confidence and would be a waste of space.

We have Dawes and Pedders and I expect one of those will be delisted. We have Weeds coming through and didn't look out of place last week, we have Watts who's looking every bit the player we hoped he could be, and of course we have one of the most promising young forwards in the game in Hogan.

We don't need a deadwood lumbering forward. I honestly don't think I could actually bare supporting him either!

Haha well that was a negative response. My view was coming from the angle of we are still the youngest team in the league... it looks as if we are going to be cutting loose ped and or dawes at the end of the year, and what would happen if god for bid jesse went down for a few weeks next year and we had cut ped and dawes our forward line would be relying on hullett, weed and watts two of which would be still be teenagers.

Yes Travis has had a aweful year but maybe a change a scenery and role for Trav at a new club could resurrect his career in the final years and could be a valuable asset for the club ala Waite was for North. No one could have imagined him coming along as well as he did.

As a lot of the responses have been negative i must be in la la land since the hawks win so I guess the mods can shut this thread down.

Cheers

For a number of years we've been looking forward to the day when our club is respected again as a professional sporting organisation and a place which the best footballers look upon as a "destination club". We're on the cusp now and in those circumstances, I think we can do better than Travis Cloke and the baggage he carries.

No.

Dealing with Collingwood is like the Indians dealing with the pilgrims.

You give up your land for some pox infected blankets.

And yes, I am comparing Cloke to a pox infected blanket........

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
