WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT JACK

Yes, a highly skilled dumb footballer with pace that comes to mind is Murdoch at Geelong. I would have put Stanley in the same bracket when he was with the Saints but he seems to have come on a fair bit since being with the Cats and spending more time in the ruck.

edit: skilled dumb footballers can often get to where the ball aint a lot...

Sylvia, Blease come to mind.  I think we have had our fair share of dumb footballers but not so many skilled, dumb footballers.

Probably inviting a whole can of worms - but who would you consider the closest to that category from our club rjay?

Probably none at the moment...

I always thought Moloney and Silvia were dumb footballers but maybe not so highly skilled.

'Earl' is probably right with Blease. For a kid with his pace he kept going to ground a lot and more often than not without help from the oppo...keep your feet Sam, use your leg speed.

Based on his limited amount of games played he must be on even par with the revolving chair lots in ANB,Minchie and Newton and is aheadof Terlich. A couple more games in the reseves would do him the world of good. Whilst on our reseve win beating the bottom team by heaps, I would expect everyone to excel and those who had heaps of pocessions don't count for much.

Normally you put kids in the Magoo's to learn. Seniors in Magoo's for form.

Trengove KNOWS how to play footy . This form is OK whilst not  brilliant. Not sure what dropping him accomplishes tbh.

Retaining in the 1sts should help him readjusting to tempo.

We are now six weeks plus since Jack got dropped.

Would be interested to see what others think of his chance of returning this season.

It seems to me that while at Casey he has been playing well but not exactly blitzing it. Perhaps they are banking on the old "strong pre-season" and then re-assess theory.

Would hate to see a repeat of the Grimes scenario

I'm worried for him. He only signed a one-year extension last year, and spots on the senior list in 2017 will be tight. The coaches obviously don't see him as best 22.

Personally, I thought he was serviceable against the Hawks, important against Collingwood and the Sydney game? Unfair to judge him on that, you see games played in those conditions once every couple of years at best.

I hope he gets another year.

Conserned that it he is drifting from one of the great stories of the year to one of the saddest. I'm not convinced he is part of the future but if they get the opportunity to rookie him I think he deserves 1 more shot. Although, I do have to ask myself if that is just sentimentality rather than a logical decision.

I would still suggest that at his worst, he is a very good depth player.  When you look at our injury list, it is in fact very small.  At the end of the season, you don't cut everyone on the list who isn't best 22.   At this stage, Jack isn't in the best 22 according to the coaches and selectors, he is however a consistent and high level contributor at Casey.

I would be very surprised if we didn't retain him. (not to mention sad and disappointed)

His VFL form has generally been very good, his AFL form average but not terrible. I do wonder if we're not giving him more AFL opportunity due to him having a diminished tank at this stage? Might be a similar concept to what they're doing with Oliver, just getting some miles into his legs, building his fitness. Obviously not saying his ceiling is as high as Oliver, but you would think either a 1 year contract or re-rookie would be worth it in that scenario.

He looked to be moving reasonably okay on the weekend. He isn't fast and never will be but it wasn't the concrete boots of old.

His AFL outings have been in pretty poor conditions not suited to a player who isn't overly fast to begin with.

Get another pre-season into him and see what happens. Next year is make or break though I think.

I think they will give him another year, there are other players that will go before him. I hope they keep him on because I think he has a lot to offer, I wouldn't be surprised if they play him this week against the Hawks.

He didn't get a proper preseason last year and it would make no sense to give him another year, then delist him. If they were going to rookie him, it would have been done last year.

The club will be mindful of how popular Jack is and won't want another Junior on their hands.

My Gut tells you are seeing exactly that DJ

Sad but I think he is for the high jump.

I will be very surprised if we see him in the AFL team again this year and he will be given the DCM at years end.

My main concern Old Dee is that we will keep him for another year but that he will be on the permanent outer next year and thus the Grimes scenario will repeat.

Would it be better for Jack to go now with our blessing to a club where he can reasonably guarantee a start for say 10-12 games. I cannot see him getting that start other than through injuries in the present MFC team. Of course that makes him a valuable depth player as others have pointed out but I think he deserves more.

Personally I would love to see him succeed but to see three captains "delisted" is not good no matter how hard nosed a supporter one might be.

IMHO it would make no sense to delist him at the end of this year. Surely the one year contact for 2016 was to see if his foot could cope with regular games (irrespective of whether this was at MFC or Casey). Given that it seems he has hit this KPI, I would think he will get another 1 year contract and the chance to see what he can do at AFL level next year on the back of a full pre-season where he participates in pretty much all the drills and loading.

I would like to think you are correct but I have a bad feeling it won't happen that way.

I reckon given where the list is at we will retain one of Trenners or Grimes, i suspect it'll be Trengove, maybe as a rookie

Yep. I'd delist Trenners and rookie him.

The club broke his heart when we demoted him from Co Captain

The club broke his heart when we tried to trade him to the tigers

The club broke his heart when we dropped him after 3 games this year.

There are only so many times a heart can be broken, CBDees.  I would actually like to see Jack take his future into his own hands and not wait to see if MFC is going to throw him some crumbs and get his manager out there promoting his cause.  If he finds another team we should do the honourable thing and let him walk.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
