Did anyone notice? Bias Channel 7

I agree with this thread. Mentioned it in the post game thread. They must think only tigers supporters were watching.

Drove me mad.

yesterday the HS had an article rating the captains. Labelled Chunk a captain courageous. Then Ling gave him 6/10. Cotchin......7/10?!?! Joke.

AFL commentary, especially on TV right now, is really low quality I reckon.

Cometti is good, always has been. Bruce is pretty poor, lots of superfluous OTT remarks (and an enormous bias towards Hawthorn/Rioli, West Coast/Naitanui and Geelong/Selwood/Dangerfield). BT's awful, Luke Darcy's learning but not good. Dwayne Russell's terrible and Sandy Roberts is appalling (genuinely does not know most of the players on the ground and repeatedly confuses players and gets their names wrong). David Schwarz and Kevin Bartlett are hopeless.

Hamish McLachlan's trying to be too much like Bruce with statistics and general statements as opposed to actually calling the game. Basil Zempilas is OK but nothing special.

I like Cometti, Huddo and Matt Granland. Not a lot else out there. There's a new guy on Foxtel though who gets given the dud Saturday twilight/night game and he sounds pretty good so far though.

Agree to all of the above. I'm a big fan of Gerard Whateley's calling. If I hear Bruce say "he's got a long leg on him" one more time I'll smash the TV!

Sandy isn't up to it anymore unfortunately because I liked him but he gets about 20 players names wrong every game now. Huddo is probably my favourite with Cometti coming in at a close second. Carey is a fairly good special comments man and I feel like most of the others just talk about how good the players are especially Ling. The new bloke who's commentating this season isn't bad at all, not sure what his name is

I'm with you Rafiki, Huddo is my favourite and I like Gerard Healey on special comments. Carey annoys me but his one redeeming features is that he pulls no punches when it comes to criticising some of the umpiring decisions. Seems like he's the only commentator that isn't towing the company line on this score (umpires being above criticism I mean). I actually don't mind Dermott Brereton, although he comes across as a bit too Auskick-coachey (for lack of a better description) and patronising sometimes. I guess if you've won as many flags as he has, the ego allows you to be this way

PS That score on Chunk was the lowest of any of the captains.

That is how our club is viewed in the AFL. We are now changing that perception. We need to become a tough, ruthless winning club.

It's just a shame that guys like Cotchin and Mark Murphy who have never been even good leaders and their teams have always been well below par are talked up so much.

Apparently Bernie was miked up for the game and Channel 7 showed the highlights of it. I got in from the game too late to see it, but does anyone know where I could find it? Apparently, well worth a look.

I guess it shows how little new twice I take of 7, but is that guy who looks like Gil the dill really his brother?   How bloody incestuous has the AFL become??  How shallow has 7's talent pool become?  Where did they dig him up from?  Has he played footy post Auskick?

I would be happy if they kept under rating us and kept pumping the tyres of the Saints and The Bulldogs.

We need to be desperate every match

Finally we have a team where there is competition just to get a spot in the 22 to join in the fairytale ride.

This is semi-related, but did anyone watch Bounce after the game on Fox Footy? I have noticed this year that Fox Footy in particular are being so over the top in their praise for the umps and rule changes, and I saw something a bit odd last night.

Chief does a segment called "beef of the week" or something like that, and he had a go at Tom Hawkins for looking bewildered when a free was paid against him for holding the ball and "not making a genuine attempt" even though he never took possession and the opponent just held the ball against him. If that was paid against a Melbourne player, I would have been ropable. Did anyone else see this? Am I wrong in thinking the Tomahawk was stiff to have the free paid against him, and then even stiffer for those idiots to take the [censored] out of him about it?

So after 7's new low with cutting to ads in the last post they show they have learnt their lesson and are a lot more respectful. They open the coverage with the commentators trying to make it all about themselves, introducing us to their family members who fought.

What you fail to understand is that it's important that we establish who the villains are in My Kitchen Rules.

Truly unbelievable how often Channel 7 were talking up Cotchin in the last quarter.

Called him inspirational and a leader about 5 times, only mentioned Viney once. Viney had about 12 touches in the last and was crucial to us getting over the line.

Two things stood out for me watching replay on 7.  The commentary team were cheering and willing on Richmond, and the same people went out of their way to highlight how great Cotchin was and what a superb leader blah blah blah!!!!!

Normally do not give a toss, however it was so obvious it pizzed me off when Melbourne was playing so well.

Actually Carey, Zemplis and the brother of Gill showed very bad bias with their commentary.

In the end we won the game, won the fight, and that's all that matters, but still annoying to see such bias commentary.

How does Gills brother get a gig calling games? He is terrible.

Call on Fox was similar - hardly named Melbourne players who contested and beat Rance - kept signing this scums praises. Did acknowledge Viney and Gawn's games.

Yeah saw that, one of the worst free kicks ever paid. At no time did he have possession, in fact it should have been holding the ball the other way if anything. However, Hawkins did look bloody ridiculous, regardless how shocked he must've been. Perhaps they're all being trained by Scott on facial expressions.

So I'm confused, I watched the replay and I heard plenty of good things about the dees, and heard praise for viney and vince and gushing over gawn.

edit: the comments about Mc Donald were very positive as well

HAve to agree about the "apparent" by the Channel 7  "commentary "team. THey kept on telling us how well Richmond were playing, almost as if they were 5 goals up ????

I was more annoyed with Channel 7's chase of the almighty $$$$$ by cutting into the Last Post for an Ad.

Just proves they have turned Anzac Day into a Marketing exercise,. rather than a day of reflection. Shame Channel 7 !!!!!!

The biased commentary was exacerbated by the commentators talking up the Tigers to give the impression that they were still in the game to stop the viewers switching off,a typical media brainwashing technique.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
